A couple of weeks ago I read a mod post about following the developer accounts on the forums to get a notification when they post. That little red notification that pops up on the bell with a number in it. Ever since, I've become addicted to seeing that little red bell. I get a sudden little rush and think to myself, "Will it be Hartless saying, 'Fixed it! Thanks!' or will it be squallss with some deep code fix, or maybe BadEye explaining something or giving us some news!"
And then the little red bell goes away and I start getting withdrawals and clicking and clicking and clicking the browser refresh button waiting, sweating, agonising over the next, red, bell...
Hahaha I so feel you! I've been following the entire staff since beta and i find it exactly the same.
There are times when it goes silent for a few days I'm like what happened?? Or there are times when i get like 30 notifications when Hartless goes on a bug fix rampage!
Mondays are the worst for me as I'm in Sydney and there are rarely any notifications from them as it is a Sunday over there, i get they need their weekend but i need my fix!! :P
I had to turn off email notifications because my email just kept getting flooded with emails, and i was checking frequently enough anyway that i didnt need the emails (the daily emails wernt good either as i was checking more frequently anyway).
One thing i do think is that the notifications could be improved, not sure if you have noticed but when a bunch come through older ones get lost as there is a maximum that can be shown so sometimes i loose things when hartless goes on his spree. The other thing with it is it groups buy following type (all threads you are following will be together and all people you are following together) this means that if im looking a few hours later i have to scroll through to see what has happened since i last looked it all isn't just at the top.
Also are you awear that you can not only follow threads but also entire forum topics? i love that too, you get a notification every time someone posts in General Discussion or Feedback (thats how i saw this post) and it means you can get your red bell fix even if the devs arent around :)
