Game: D&D 5e Group type: Online / Face-to-face Experience: DM of 16 years looking for experienced players with an appreciation for canon lore of D&D Platform: Dndbeyond for Sheets, Roll20 for Maps, Discord for Voice Location/Timezone: I play from PT, but I have players from all over the globe. Schedule: Looking at Thursdays 5-9pm PT, open to Wednesdays or even shorter sessions (6-9pm PT) depending on player availability. Roles sought: 5-8 Players, I prefer a larger party so we can carry on when people are unavailable. Game style: I am mixing and matching published modules to fill in the levels 1-10, so we're going pretty by the book. I already run 2 other games and want something with a little less legwork. I am known to run encounters on the more threatening side and love a good dungeon crawl, that with the modules we'll be using it'll likely weight on the combat heavy side. Still, lots of mystery, investigation, and artifact hunting as well. Published adventures tend to be lighter on RP interactions, but both combat and consequences can often be avoided with the right words and rolls here or there.
DM Bio Hey! I'm Sonder (They/Them), a DM of 16 years now and lover of the deep canon lore of the many published settings. Planescape and Die Vecna Die are some of my favorite works from older editions, so I'm so stoked to get this 5e approach to that kind of story in Eve of Ruin. I have been running a longform Spelljammer homebrew world for about 4 years now between 2 campaigns, just adore getting to visit different worlds on the material plane to change up the surroundings. I studied Classics & Philosophy at university so I tend to lean on the literature, history, and mythology of classical antiquity for inspiration in my storytelling style.
I grew up making very strong and lifelong connections over board games and tabletop, so I take my role in facilitating a safe play space quite seriously. This is a game, but also a game we share with our fellow players, there needs to be a place for all kinds of stories, characters, and moments. Some of those moments may be vulnerable and very real at times, but safety tools and open communication make sure we can keep the line between to game and life even when we play up to those boundaries. I enjoy telling compelling stories, and it's hard to do that without putting your heart into it, so I try my best to cultivate a table and environment where we can get invested without getting hurt.
Campaign Pitch: Vecna: Eve of Ruin is a lovely homage to previous works that saw the transition between earlier editions of D&D, with call-backs delving into the deep lore, and the processes by which the histories themselves were written. Though many find something missing for the average 5e player (not just the 7 levels between the introductory adventure and the main story). There are fantastic nostalgic callbacks to some of D&D's greatest settings and characters that have gotten little light or love in the last two decades. I hope to bridge the gap and give a broader investment and understanding by using published materials from 5e. We'll be spanning pieces from a few different adventures in roughly the following progression:
Levels 1-3 | Death House | CoS starter module that has a callback in Eve of Ruin later, tweaked to intro Kas Levels 3-4 | Nest of the Eldritch Eye | Intro module made fore Eve of Ruin that sets up some Vecna connections for the PCs Level 4 | Turn of Fortune's Wheel | Planescape adventure used to intro Sigil and aftermath of "Die Vecna Die", as well as timeline fractures Levels 4-7 | Wild Beyond the Witchlight | Feywild adventure to intro Tasha and her backstory Levels 7-10 | Rime of the Frostmaiden| Icewindale intro to the obelisks, timeline shenanigans, and Netheril Level 10 | The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth | Tasha's old Lair to introduce important items like the Demonomicon & Rod of Seven Parts Levels 10-20 | Vecna: Eve of Ruin | Main adventure spanning Toril, Planescape, Underdark, Spelljammer, Eberron, Ravenloft, Dragonlance, Greyhawk, the Hells, and Pandemonium in a massive tour of the multiverse.
This will be a long running game with no exact estimate on end-date, as we'll be taking it from level 1-20. Weekly sessions Thursday 5-9pm PT, but I could do Wednesdays or even shorter sessions if players prefer.
