I'm experienced in tabletop gaming, but haven't explored PbP before. I'm a busy stepdad on the West coast and I want to find a group to join. I would honestly play any class, I just want to play.
What kind of characters do you like to play? Do you have any examples written up with backstories and concepts? If you're looking for a game immediately, you can check out the PBP section of these forums, as people normally recruit in there, and don't look here in the "looking for" section very much:
If you want, I can add you to my potential list of players for the next game I might run, but don't have any spots left in the current game I'm DM-ing (Caravan Escort). As of now, there's at least one game that's actively recruiting:
There is also a Play by Post area at enworld. It covers more than just 5e, and it's not as easy to filter for those games that are recruiting, but it might be something to consider if you don't find a game here. Recruitment threads tend to be posted in the "Talking the Talk" subforum.
What I did when I first started thinking about PbP was to follow a few games in the forums. (This was on enworld, before DDB started, but it would work here as well). That gave me a sense of how they worked, and what was expected. Eventually it also provided me an in to a game. One of the adventures I was following had a number of players drop out/disappear. The group decided to recruit more players and, since I was following the thread, I was able to PM the DM almost immediately and snag a slot. That game, unfortunately, has since gone on hiatus due to RL issues, but it was a good first experience. I'm currently playing one here, which I found by searching for the threads tagged "Recruiting" in the Play by Post forum.
