I've been reading through this topic all day yesterday, and I agree with everything said:
I run multiple groups for different people, all where I am the DM. Some people I've been playing DnD 5e with for 6 years now, others have just started. My idea was to eventually move to the new 5.5 edition with my groups, but I'm not doing that in the middle of a campaign we've been playing for a couple of years now. I don't want to re-create lvl12 characters with the new rules, but just start another campaign fresh with new and changed rules.
We've discussed the new edition in my groups and we all wanted to finish this campaign with the old rules: The spells we memorized, the classes we know, and the magic items we've aquired through the years. I feel like Wizards / DnDBeyond really dropped the ball on this by forcing the new spells and items on everyone, not caring whether you're playing 5e or 5.5e. Some of my players are still overwhelmed by the rules and the spells they have, but they are starting to learn some of the spells at this point. I can only imagine how they will feel when spells are suddenly changed and they have to start all over again.
I really hope they change their mind over this and just the Legacy toggle for spells and magic items as well. That way I can finish this campaign the way I wanted to before eventually crossing over to 5.5e.
When, exactly, will the Character Sheets be updated to use 2024 spells, terminology, etc.?
I want to give my players clear communication for how long they have to grab their character sheets before they're irreperably damaged by this move.
I will not update the core rules of the system in use in the middle of an ongoing campaign, so I desperately want to give my players a clear timeline on how long they have. And that's before I, or any of my players, get to deal with the headache of figuring out a platform that won't pull the rug out from under us by swapping mechanics like this.

Just a silly little fool, trying their best. He/They
I’ve never made a forum post but have to say this is GD ridiculous! Just add a toggle for 2024 content like you already have in place for other content… infuriating.
How do we access the 2014 rules for those in the middle of a campaign?
I currently have no interest in the new errata edition.
At least in Archives of Nethys you can toggle between legacy and remaster for Pathfinder 2e... I probably should abandon this platform for that better system...
The written Rules are still available in your 2014 PHB, DMG, MM and the Basic rules. These don't go away. Rules in the Character sheet and in highlighted links will direct to the new rules.
And now I know why so many people are cancelling their DDB subscriptions. Most people using DDB won't switch to the new version right away, if at all. Their solution is for you to make a homebrew version of the entirety of the 2014 spell list and manually add them to all your characters for the remainder of a campaign, or switch mid-game to the new variant of the system. I'm hopeful a more sensible option appears, cause this is just a bad decision.
Elsewhere in a more tech focused place I have suggested that they enable one or more people to do the homebrew and publish. The similarity test is awkward to get around or I would just do it myself (not impossible, just awkward)
For those with a few tech skills its not that hard. I would just do all the PHB spells and all the DMG magic items - no reason not to when you are scripting the process and have filters by source you can use.
I know the mods have seen and reacted to my suggestion - I don't know the internal decision making processes at Beyond so I don't know if the idea will fly.
I’m disappointed and displeased with this new update and feel it’s handed very poorly. I like to keep my old 2014 character sheets as is and use and preserve them as is. A simple toggle between Wich version I want to use would have been smarter. Do that instead. You literally can do that. You guys make the site. Copying everything home brew is to tedious to do for something that’s fine as is. Not saying the 2024 version of rules are bad but I don’t see why we can’t have both and just toggle. unfortunately A lot of folks I’ve talked to about this have indicated that they will probably leave the site for other places due to being forced to switch. and that’s just unfortunate for this community. It doesn't make sense to force the change when a lot of longtime campaigns are running on 2014 rules and it be very disruptive to change a 2014 character sheet spells and armor class and such mechanics to the newer 2024 version. I urge dnd beyond to reconsider how they approach this update. As the character sheet is what brings most people to this site (myself included) I’ve thus far really loved this site despite all its past hiccups, but this is pretty disruptive to a lot of us long time users. Please listen to the folks who use this site and consider that has been said. Thank you for your time and understanding
As a player and GM who uses Dndbeyond for every campaign, I’m in credibly disappointed in these changes. I am not planning on switching to the 2024 materials and these changes TOTALLY make this game much more difficult to continue on this platform. Goodbye subscription.
the “fix” of being forced to add homebrew versions of all the items and weapons currently being used by me and my players will cause such chaos and waste dozens of hours. This is a poorly planned, let’s only make the shareholders happy type of move that will have people RUNNING from using this platform moving forward. WOTC blew it

Yeh but dosnt that involve clicking off to another page? And armor class and things change? Sounds disruptive to the flow of the game. Might as well go back to pen and paper

Most thing, will not change, or not in a way that most people will notice. AC, Save DC, proficiency, all that is still the same. certain spells and conditions are different, some more some less
Joining all the voices here to add that if this goes through I'll be cancelling my subscription. My table plays 2014 rules, and will continue to play 2014 rules. So if we can no longer access all of the 2014 rules easily on your platform, what am I even doing here?
The only reason I bought any of DnD books here instead of getting a physical copy was that I wanted to be able to use the purchased content (all of it!) with the dndbeyond character sheet. Replacing the old spells with the new versions hampers the use I and many people get out of your site immensely.
You're already keeping a large amount of legacy content around. The old spells and items are already in your system. Just add the new ones and give us an option to toggle 2024 on or off.

Cash grab. Time to move on to another platform.

Subscribtion canceled because of this
they have 10 days to fix this huge screw up tho i doubt they will.
Hah!
I called this BS ages ago, engineered obsolescence
our games will move on to a platform that allows us to use a digital set of 5e and not force the new edition on us.
what platform is that? i need to start looking for a new one lol even roll20 is starting to look better then DnDBeyond

Why is there no one from DnD beyond in this thread to comment? If they had any thoughts for their customers they would be trying to put this fire out.
