SRD 5.2.1 Update (5/1/2025): An update to the SRD has been published that includes the 15 magic items mistakenly omitted from version 5.2, as well as other minor corrections. View the full changelog in our latest Community Update.
Last May, when we announced the 2024 Core Rulebook preorders, we also announced that SRD 5.2 would accompany them, releasing after the arrival of the new Monster Manual. We are pleased to announce the release of SRD 5.2 today.
SRD 5.2, like SRD 5.1 for the 2014 Core Rulebooks, contains foundational content for the 2024 core rules. Content new to this version of the SRD includes an updated and expanded library of referenceable content, as well as more feats, spells, monsters, and equipment. SRD 5.1 remains unchanged for creators who would like to continue creating content for the 2014 rule set.
We wanted to make it as easy as possible for creators to transition from SRD 5.1, and to upgrade your already existing content to SRD 5.2. Anything in SRD 5.1 that doesn’t have a direct equivalent in the 2024 core rules has been replaced with a functional equivalent for SRD 5.2.
SRD 5.2 is also up to date with the most recent errata and will continue to be updated when errata affects the rules within the document. Future changes will update the SRD’s version number (SRD 5.2.1, 5.2.2, etc.), and all future versions of the SRD will continue to be released under Creative Commons (CC-BY-4.0). This process will not invalidate previous versions of SRD 5.2—they will continue to be valid and available for use!
In addition to SRD 5.2’s release, we have also released a Creator FAQ that provides third-party content creators with information they need to develop their products.
Anything you create using SRD 5.2 is yours! Because SRD 5.2 is provided to you under Creative Commons, it's open source and free--you can use its contents in any way the CC-BY-4.0 license allows, as long as you attribute the source. Even with that attribution, we don't control what you make: we don't own your created content, we don't own the CC-BY-4.0 license, and we don't have any say over what you do with your work.
We’re looking forward to seeing what you create with SRD 5.2!
