As the D&D Beyond community continues to expand our team has witnessed a growing importance toward addressing the needs of a more varied community to best ensure the safety of all users using our platform to enjoy Dungeons & Dragons.
As a part of this need, we have reviewed our current standards for appropriate content on our forums in the form of mature language, and compared that with the standards set forth in our Discord community. As a result, we are expanding our list of inappropriate words. Using the mature language included on that list will result in the word in question becoming censored.
However, we know that many of our users are accepting of this kind of language and we want to ensure that those users are able to continue expressing themselves as they have been doing in these past few years.
To assist with that, we are offering the ability to "opt-in" to using and seeing it in our forums. If you'd like to do so, you can visit our Account Preferences page and choose to "Show Censored Content" as shown in this GIF:
Thank you all for helping keep our community safe and welcoming!
While i agree with the fact that some things should be censored, I appreciate the fact you folks are giving the option to opt-in for those that don't mind. Dnd Beyond shouldn't be mature language audiences only, and everyone should be able to experience our favorite activity without taking the options away to be ok with it or not.
The local shoppe I run my game at has a no profane language policy in place because we have ages from 11 on up playing. And it does not take away from the game at all.
There is no reason anyone should need to use profanity in these forums either.
The correct spelling for the 2nd one is actually ******

REMEMBER: Wizards Of The Coast does not own DDB, they are two different companies. When you buy a physical book, WotC receives the money you bought it for, not DDB and vice versa. If you want a digital key to get an online book for free because you have the hardcopy book then DDB makes no money because you don't buy off DDB you buy off WotC, so please stop making threads about this issue. DDB needs money to continue helping people and servers aren't cheap.

I can assure you that discussions of pencils, as well as pens, quills, biros, brushes and all other writing instruments is still very much permitted.
On a serious note, if you refer back to what MellieDM posted, you'll see we're not stopping people from using certain word. Instead, the changes make it so each user has the control to decide what they do or do not wish to see.
Davedamon, I've seen you have rose to the rank of a Moderator, what missions did you do and how much renown did you earn?

Thank you for the kind words. D&D Beyond values its community and as such takes pride in creating a safe space for people to love D&D. As such, I'm lucky to be given the chance to help the community in making DDB awesome!

While I truly appreciate the kind words regarding my recent moddening (always a good sign), I think it's important we stay on thread in case other people need to reference this thread for the changes to the language filter on the forums.
Is the language filter still working as intended? I'm asking because I have it set to not show censored content, but I still see mature language such as here:

And this is coming from a former Sailor Hee hee.
Where can we see the list of disallowed words?

We don't have a renown system in place yet, so only the DM knows how much.
As for missions - Davedamon has been doing an amazing job moderating on our discord server and wished to help on the forums too.
As with all of our moderation team, D&D Beyond are lucky to have such an awesome bunch of people looking after our community. đź’—
