Gnurl bellows out a laugh. "Anda, for all your smarts, sometimes... well! Yokotoro is the name of the village we're in. Were you that deep in your cups at the Knavery?" Giving a half-bow and a grin to Teshuma. "Forgive my friend, friend. He can see the whole world from atop his tower, but sometimes he can't quite make out the details from way up there." More seriously, "but do tell us about the Shore of Dreams, if you would be so kind, and about it's proprietor." Almost forgetting, "Oh! And a fishing pole, if you would. Two young children sold me a pair of flashy lures but I've nothing to string them to!"
OOC: jeez, I’m sorry, I’ve been grading essays about Seamus Heaney all day and my brain is tired 😜 I’m usually not this clueless. Either that or Anda really can’t handle the heat.
Looking toward Anda, Teshuma says, "An unsavory place? Not at all. No, I'd say it's as fine a place as one can find in these parts."
The old fisherman downs another gulp of whatever it is he's drinking. His eyes then fall on Gnurl. "To speak of the Shore of Dreams, friend, is to speak of Pisca, the owner of the place. Pisca Ahlorsath. Need a room and a meal? See Pisca. Charter a boat? See Pisca. Information? See Pisca. And listen to the fairest music? That would be Pisca."
After a pause, Teshuma adds, "I'll fetch a pair of poles for you. Give me a minute."
OOC: jeez, I’m sorry, I’ve been grading essays about Seamus Heaney all day and my brain is tired 😜 I’m usually not this clueless. Either that or Anda really can’t handle the heat.
If that's the worst mistake you make in a day, then I'd say it's a good day.
Anda turns to Gnurl. "Shall we go straight to the inn? We could ask around about this Pisca, to see if there might be a good way to approach her, but I would like to get out from under this sun, and perhaps being direct would serve us better." He pauses. "After you get your poles, of course."
"Ha! Looks like Gnurl was right all along for once! Now i'd normally say we might need Atallia's help with this one, she could probably approach things in a more delicate or feminin manner perhaps, but its only fair to give Gnurl a chance here, let him speak to the fine lady for once!" Perrin declares enthusiastically "I say we go straight for the Inn, I'm starting to feel like Anda wasn't the only victim of the heat. I suddenly feel like chugging down 3 pints of cold water. Standing on Deck for so long in the sun, watching the suns reflecting rays can really get to ones head" Perrin takes a couple of steps away and then remembers "oh, right the poles"
Teshuma and Gnurl make the exchange for the fishing poles, and the four of you make your way toward the Shore of Dreams. Shou humans are by far the most common inhabitants of Yokotoro, but you encounter members of nearly all the races of Faerun as you walk to the inn.
The Shore of Dreams is a two-story stone building filled with long tables and benches, an enormous fireplace, and well-stocked bar. A handful of villagers sit drinking and feasting on lavish seafood platters. In the back of the tavern is a decorated stage of carved bamboo. A beautifully made shamisen rests in the corner of the stage.
Despite the number of patrons in the place, you're able to quickly determine who works at the Shore of Dreams. The first is a young Shou woman, with a slight frame. The second is a female tiefling. Rather striking in appearance, she has red skin and purple hair and horns. Both are serving customers behind the bar and taking food to tables. A third employee pokes her head out of the kitchen only now and then--a rather grumpy looking rock gnome.
Perrin notes the food with interest, then the and then the shamisen with some more and walks straight for the bar. He waits a few moments taking in smells of the place before one of the employees notices him. "Good day to you! I would like four glasses of water for me and my friends over there, as big and as cold you can offer! Tell me when is the next performance and who plays such a wonderful instrument?"
Perrin's request for water is met with an inquisitive look from the Shou female. "Water it shall be. Maybe something a bit stronger later then? And that fine instrument belongs to Pisca, the proprietor of the place. Stay another hour or so, and you will hear her skill on the shamisen and the beauty of her voice."
As the four of you survey the Shore of Dreams, taking in what you can of the patrons and the possible places to be seated, Anda takes notice of four individuals that seem like they might be in Yokotoro for the purpose of adventure. A male half elf, a female half-orc, and two halflings--one male, one female--are just leaving the inn. There's nothing sudden or suspicious about their departure, however. It seems, rather, that the four of them have wrapped up their afternoon meal and are heading outside.
The tiefling approaches the table briskly and introduces herself, "I am called Temerity. Welcome. Any may you find our staff willing to help."
Temerity's eyes quickly absorb the fact that the four of you are neither locals nor simple tourists.
Gnurl smiles at Attalia and whispers back, "I take your bet. You can pay me now if you'd like. The proprietor of the establishment is a Triton, if the rumors be true."
When Temerity approaches Gnurl speaks up. "Thank you for the welcome. Such a lovely place. As you can surely see we're new to Yokotoro. We will likely need rooms, and any information you can give us." Motioning to the shining lures Gnurl set on the table when they sat down, "I have already learned of the villages fine fishing and entrepreneurship!"
Perrin half climbed, half jumped to sit on the bar stool next to him and tries to gesture to his companions to come sit with him before replying, "I haven't met this Pisca but you definitely make her sound worth the wait. Splendid! Good music and good food really do go well together. You can bet I'm having something stronger during her performance! Mr Teshuma pointed us this way and and he too spoke with great respect about the proprietor of the place. I was looking for an excuse to convince my friends to try the food here but now I'm intrigued to meet this Pisca in person. Seems like the whole village holds her in high regard! "
"Please pardon my colleague's, ah, temerity," says Anda. "He means information about the village, for we have only lately arrived. Any points of interest? We have just been told we should stay to hear your employer perform; will you be joining her?" he asks, and one notices for all his formality, Anda can show a bit of old-fashioned charm. "As for the table, we would appreciate four servings of the kitchen's specialty, and, if and when your business settles, a few minutes of your conversation. Perhaps over a glass of wine?"
The vague request for information from Gnurl momentarily raises Temerity's eyebrows. The tiefling then nods, showing her appreciation for Anda's clarification on the matter.
"New to Yokotoro?" she asks, feigning surprise with a playful smile. "Lodging will be no trouble whatsoever. And I do hope your accommodations will match the quality of those lures, mister dwarf."
Turning her attention to Anda, she says, "Points of interest? I suppose that depends on one's interests, does it not? If a performance by Pisca Ahlorsath is of interest to you, then you'll not be disappointed. She performs alone, and when you listen to her, you will understand why. I could do little more than detract from what she has to offer."
As she turns to put in the party's order for food, she adds, "Conversation and wine should be feasible. I will do what I can."
Meanwhile, Perrin continues his interaction with the Shou woman, who remarks briefly and flatly to him, "Yes, Pisca is held in high regard. That is true."
She then bows slightly and excuses herself so she can attend to other customers.
Seeing his friends were too preoccupied to notice him, Perrin politely pays for his meager order and picks up the remaining water as best he can and walks over making sure to hand the first glass over to Anda. "It seems Pisca's praises are quickly sung by the locals but they say little else about her, at least not in small talk. It could be the culture here or that they are weary to give out information, who knows. But if the second is true then it seems to be out of respect, not fear."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Anda takes the glass. "Thank you, Perrin. I agree, Pisca seems to draw their praise. I shall be interested to meet her, to learn how she came upon this map, and, if she knows the whereabouts of Jadescale's treasure, why she has not pursued it herself. Perhaps we should be careful not to speak too loudly or often of why we are here, until we learn what the locals believe about the treasure."
Anda glances around the bar, looking for any indications that Pisca might have a past-- as an adventurer or pirate herself-- before saying to Perrin, "The Shou woman with whom you spoke. Did she seem overly brief with you?"
Anda continues to study his surroundings, looking for any hints about the triton that seems to play such a significant role in this somewhat remote fishing village. Nothing in the Shore of Dreams seems to indicate that Pisca is, or was, an adventurer of any sort. Everything, thus far anyway, paints a rather straightforward picture: Pisca operates a very successful inn, one that likely generates revenue for many others who live in the area.
Within a quarter of an hour, the Shou woman (who introduces herself as Murasa) brings the four of you your wine and meal of noodles, fish, vegetables, and rice. It is fine fare and comes at a good price. This may rival the best of evenings spent at The Knavery.
Daylight begins to fade and the cool evening ocean air begins to creep into the inn, bringing welcome relief from the warmth of the day. The food and wine add to the pleasantness of the evening, and you hardly expect things to improve. Yet improve they do.
The din of laughter and conversation suddenly softens as Pisca Ahlorsath swoops into the room and steps onto the stage. She has bright blue skin and copper hair. She wears long, flowing clothing with sleeves that nearly brush the ground. Underneath her robe she wears a beautiful scale mail shirt that catches the firelight. At her waist is a wakizashi in an ornamented scabbard. If such a thing as stage presence exists, then she has it. Her skill with the shamisen is remarkable. So too is her singing.
The ordering of food and drink slows to a near halt as the patrons focus on Pisca's performance. This frees up Temerity who rather unabashedly joins the four of you at your table. "Now's a fine time for that wine and a bit of conversation. Or was it information?"
The tiefling sets a bottle of wine on the table, offers a warm smile, and begins to fill everyone's glass.

"She did seem a little brief and to be honest so did Mr Teshuma. The reason why... that's up for interpretation"
