Atallia, you know that only our learned companion Anda doesn't speak Gnomish! You learned from your old master, I learned so I could study the mechanical crafts of the gnomes, and Perrin, oh what was it? He was taught by a vole or a badger or some such I'm sure!
"But you told me you were trying to read some kind of sophisticated gnomish beer recipe that turned out to be soup, no?" He sighs... "But I do miss Lizzy.. its been too long"
"Anyhow, I'd argue that as I'm one of the smaller races I'd make a better candidate to speak with the gnome but no matter. I can let you 2 fight over the gnome. I've got half a mind of following our competition tomorrow for a bit. They'll probably be heading for the port in the morning, unless our friends stunt here has delayed them considerably. I'll be able to buy Lizzy a treat, let her out for a stroll and see the surprised faces of the locals."
(OOC: I forgot to mention Lizzy is my beast companion)
Anda turns to Perrin. “That presumes you’d find them again, though. If we there think they’re worth following, we might go now, since they’re still in sight.” He says to the table, “I can only assume your gnomiah dialogue was about speaking to the one in the kitchen. I leave that to you. But Perrin, if you wish to follow the others, I have a way to make you unseen.”
"By Temerity's words they'll be needing to hire a boat and a captain, so they'll most likely be there. But invisibility might give us some more info to work with. Alright! If one of you goes to talk with the gnome I'll go take a closer look at those guys."
Anda rises and suggests that Perrin follow him out. "Perhaps we might get some fresh air," he suggests, already forming the incantation for the Invisibility spell in his thoughts. He plans to step outside with the halfling, and at the first moment they are unnoticed, to cast the spell before returning to his room.
Making use of the evening shadows, Perrin and Anda find a place free from prying eyes. When Anda's voice falls silent, Perrin vanishes from sight and readies himself for a bit of reconnaissance.
Perrin takes a moment to steady himself. Its weird not being able to see your own arms and legs. "Wish me luck.." he whispers, before turning around to re enter the building and casting his own spell (Pass Without Trace) for good measure. As soon as he's in Perrin realizes that this is going to be harder than he thought. Sneaking up on someone is one thing, not colliding with other people, going to and fro, when they cant see you is another. Thankfully Perrin's is a halfling and for once his small size and nimbleness are his allies. Pivoting and changing direction when he needs to, Perrin slowly but surely begins to approach the table of the other adventuring party and the first sounds of conversation begin to tickle his ears.
Perrin stations himself near the four individuals who just recently met with Pisca. Initially, they engage in minimal conversation as they focus on their food and drink, and Perrin begins to wonder if he will hear anything of substance. After a span of seven or eight minutes, one of the halflings remarks, "Another hour or so and this place'll be clear."
The half-orc then casually surveys the room, making note of how many customers remain in the Shore of Dreams. The half-elf then remarks, "Subtle. Quiet. That's how this one goes, understood?"
The other three nod their heads in silent agreement, ending any dialogue that Perrin finds useful.
A knot starts to form on Perrin's throat. He was expecting this to be more of a fun way to retrieve information of little value, but things got serious fast. Realizing the clock is now ticking Perrin swiftly turns to find Anda outside and moments later he is repeating that simple, but heavy phrase. "I'll follow you in and stay invisible until the team makes a decision, but I say we let things play out, catch them red handed. Were not sure who the target is or what was said in that conversation. For all we know their group could be under the command of the triton and we are the targets."
(OOC: lol, I was very surprised to see that 33! must be my finest roll yet!!)
Anda,Gnurl, and Attalia make casual conversation for the next half hour or so as the room gradually empties of the other patrons. Invisible Perrin sits on a stool just a few feet from those upon whom he is spying, and Pisca's employees go about their before-closing routine. Murasa busily ferries empty plates, bottles, and glasses to the kitchen (but she does take the time to stop by your table and ask if you need anything). From the kitchen come the sounds of pots and pans being washed, indications that the gnome is shutting things down for the evening in her domain. And after assisting Murasa for a short while, Temerity bids goodnight to everyone in the room and ascends the stairs.
Perrin begins to sense the half-elf's annoyance at the fact that Anda, Gnurl, and Attalia have not yet retired to their rooms. The half-orc and two halflings, however, seem quite content to continue drinking a second...and third...bottle of wine. "Those three ever planning on leaving?" asks the half-elf rhetorically. (Only Perrin hears this, of course).
Eventually Murasa gives a gentle nudge to the seven individuals she can see in the room, "Thank you, friends, for joining us this evening. We do hope to see you again tomorrow. Goodnight."
The gnome leans her head through the kitchen doorway and peers over the bar. You get the impression she wishes to leave but is hesitant to do so before the room is empty of guests.
The Shore of Dreams has, on this night, become the scene of an awkward standoff. Murasa and the gnome will not leave the room until the guests have done so. The two groups of guests, however, seem perfectly comfortable waiting each other out...
Gnurl feels a little uneasy about the other group having not left yet. Speaking loudly enough to be heard by all present in the Shore of Dreams, "Well, I guess the three of us should get moving. I can see we've over stayed our welcome." As Gnurl stands, clattering his chair loudly to muffle his voice, he whispers so only his companions can hear. "Lets go, but be ready to come back if Perrin calls for us."
Having spent half an hour so close to them and knowing things could go south any moment Perrin attempts quickly determine the general capabilities of the group next to him according to the clothes and armor they are wearing, how muscular their bodies are and the weapons they carry or lack there of completely.
Yawning and telling the others that after the long day he’s ready to read his books and grab some sleep, Anda walks toward the stairs. As he mounts the first step, he makes an arcane gesture, summoning his familiar, an emerald viper (named Savifi), beneath the steps, where she can watch the four other patrons...
Perrin sizes up the four individuals he's been spying on for the past several minutes, and he comes to the conclusion that all of them can hold their own in a fight. The two halflings are wearing leather armor and carry light crossbows. A shortsword hangs on the hip of one; a rapier on the other. The half-orc, also wearing leather armor, keeps a mace at his side, but the half-elf appears to be without armor. His quarterstaff leans against the table.
Anda is confident his bit of magic has gone undetected by everyone in the room as he, Attalia, and Gnurl make their way up the steps.
_ . _ . _ . _ . _ . _ . _ . _ ._ . _ . _ . _
(I'm assuming Anda, Attalia, and Gnurl remain vigilant and silent after ascending the stairs. All of the following is perceived by Perrin, who remained in the room and is invisible, and Anda, who utilizes his telepathic connection to Savifi)
Confident that he and his mates are the only guests in the room, the half-elf turns and looks at Murasa. "Another ten minutes, dear. Let us finish this last bottle, eh?"
Murasa nods and smiles, "Of course."
She then begins wiping down the bar for a second time and organizing the bottles on the shelf. The gnome nervously hangs up her apron and utters a muffled goodnight to Murasa before quickly exiting the inn. The unease on her face as she does is impossible to miss.
The half-elf and his companions stretch the ten minutes into twenty before he stands up with quarterstaff in hand. He turns toward Murasa and addresses her by name. "Murasa dear, we thank you for your patience. We must, unfortunately, make one final but simple request of you."
The Shou woman remains calm despite the puzzled look that crosses her face. The half-elf takes a few steps toward her.
"Quietly walk out that door with me and my friends. Your cooperation will assure no one is hurt. Understood?" continues the half-elf.
Murasa's look of calm vanishes. She turns and runs into the kitchen, drawing the door closed behind her.
Anda waves his hand, and spectral armor glows around him for instant before becoming invisible [mage armor]. “They want something from the Shou woman,” he says. “I do not know what their intent is, but when they told her to leave with them, she fled into the kitchen. I think our evening has only now begun.” He turns and heads back to the stairs, preparing another spell as he goes.
Perrin carefully gets up and repositions himself much closer to the door and to its left side, between the wall and the table he and his companions had been sitting in. Having a less diagonal angle to the kitchen door from there, he nocks his first arrow..
Aiming to wound for now and not to kill, he lets loose one arrow against the half-elf and one against the half-orc. 2925 (I assume I have adv here but reroll for me If not)
"I would leave Miss Murasa alone if I were you. Things could get loud in here very quickly" To prove his point, Perrin tilts his head a little towards the door and lets out short and peculiar cry. His eyes bouncing between the 4 of them as he lets out another call.
Gnurl chuckles and says, in gnomish:
Atallia, you know that only our learned companion Anda doesn't speak Gnomish! You learned from your old master, I learned so I could study the mechanical crafts of the gnomes, and Perrin, oh what was it? He was taught by a vole or a badger or some such I'm sure!
