Amaryllis waits a few more moments but doesn't see any development. Then, her attention shifts to the glyphs. They spoke of powerful spells... could she identify the spells or their purpose? At least some details about them? She read so much about spells, even if she has no experience aside from creating the tiniest illusions.
Arcana: 12. (Hoping to stay hidden while studying the glyphs if possible. If not possible, trying to figure out the glyphs is more important to her at the moment.)
OOC: Thael would know that wood is a rare commodity around here and that most of the buildings are made of cut stones and in some cases mud bricks. Most people use dry dung for fuel.
About two more hours separate the group from the coming night and total darkness. There are still things to explore in the ruins as you have only given it a cursory glance.
The dwarven caravan you are tracking might have come through here but of that, you see no sign. They might have run into trouble before crossing the river to the south.
Of this strange and watchful sensation, you have felt when approaching the ruins you feel certain that it wasn't anyone spying on you from the woods or inside the ruins. It felt more like a scrying or some other spell. Might even have been triggered.
Annique looks to the others, "As much as I'd like to continue on to find the caravan, it seems like this place might offer us some shelter for the night. Who knows if we could find anything else out there if we press on. So I guess I suggest we stay here for the night. We can give these rocks a good looking over while we're here." She takes a deep breath, looking perhaps a little but unsure of the plan she just suggested. Quickly she glances around at the others to see what they might think.
The broken tower looms over the group as they decide to settle down for the night agreeing that venturing into the night wouldn't be a good idea.
For those deciding to venture forth into the ruins roll either another Arcana DC 14 or an investigation DC 14
For Arcana:
The many sigil and names running all over the walls center into a single one. A name but also a command. Uttering the name and spending a spell slot might trigger something but what? Seems that it is either a defense mechanism or an opening one.
For Investigation:
At the center of the ruined tower and away from the rest of the ruins is some sort of large rock that might have served as a table at one time but also might have been put there to block a passage. It may be moved aside but it will demand a large amount of strength to do so.
With the ease of adventurers used to living on the road, the group settles into a routine. Wood and food are easily gathered to make a fire and decide what to make for dinner.
“At the center of these ruins is what may look like an ordinary bit of rubble. I believe it to be covering a passage. Perhaps someone a bit stronger than I could move it?” Jarvis suggests, but only with curiosity rather than emphatically. “After all, shelter is shelter.”
Amaryllis follows the runes. It's easy for the gnome to read the sigils, and she also notices a pattern. They're leading somewhere. Following that, she finds a name. No, that's not only a name. Though not experienced, Amaryllis knows so much about the theory of magic. This one is also a command, waiting to be issued. "There's something here!" She calls. "It looks like some kind of spell, waiting to be activated. I'm... it looks similar to an opening mechanism I've read about before. Albeit... it also resembles a defensive mechanism." She seems excited, as she keeps looking around for clues. "I think that... if someone says this certain word written here and channels some magic through their words, they might be able to trigger the spell." She then turns to Hadi, whom she knows is capable of doing such things. "What do you think? I find it rather mysterious. Wanna find out what it does?"
“I think you’ve done more reading on these than I have.” Hadi says to the gnome with a grin. “I really should have payed attention to my books a bit more. Though I am with you in wanting to find out what it does.”
Can we read the name? If so, does it mean anything to Hadi? History 12
Annique thanks Jarvis for his offer of assistance and then walks through the ruins. Not finding much of anything herself, she listens to the others, coming over to where Amaryllis and Hadi are speaking. "Do you suppose this magic thing is connected to the entrance Jarvis is talking about?" She tries looking at it but it makes no sense to her. "I'd like to be more certain between opening something and triggering a defense before we meddle with the magic. I'm not the strongest person, but I'd certainly be willing to pitch in and help remove the rubble."

Rinn narrows her eyes, while crouched with a hand of sprawled fingers that caress one of the sigils.
“I was born in a place steeped in magic. I do not know exactly what these glyphs do either, but I am wary. I do not think it is wise to tempt fate, imbuing power into something which is uncertain. But I do not presume to stop you if you must try. Be wary as well.” She stands, and resolutely walks away, returning to the surrounding area to search for food, wood, or anything of practical use if the group intends to stay the night in this place.
“I would deal with the ruble first and let the magic glyphs for later. After all, if it’s a trap it can put these walls down and ruin our shelter.” He says with an almost casual tone, before turning to the bushes where Amaryllis once stood in hiding. There was enough in there to make len-to shelter so it should suffice for making a bonfire.
Darkness was not a problem for him, he could see over a hundred feet without the help of light, but other folk, born and bred on the surface, cold barely see as far as half this distance while on the same conditions. Annique, being a human, wouldn’t be able to see even that far. He wasn’t sure about Jarvis, but if leaving home had taught him something it was to prepare for the worse. And there was the cold. Having anything ablaze would certainly help fending off the courtesy of that cursed, everlasting winter. Damned goddesses, he thought bitterly.
Took some time, but the night elf managed to gather sticks. After that, he got a tinderbox out of his backpack. From it he took a small piece of cloth soaked in oil and placed it over the wood. Seizing a piece of fire steel and a flint, he hit the metal with the sharp edge of the rock, both over the fabric. Sparks flew into the textile, turning into flames and taking hold of the kindling. The warmth felt tender like the touch of a lover.
Since the wood of the surrounding bushes would be enough to use the Carpenter's Tool Temporary Shelter feature I assumed it was visible and enough to make a fire, so Thael basically stepped away from the group and made one. Because he was focused on that I didn't roll neither Arcana nor Investigation for him.
There is nothing that comes to mind. But you have seen this name in several tomes talking about glyphs and enchantments. They are mostly about protection. Harvis is the name. He was a wizard that is linked to the forgotten empire.
For Rinn
As you move outside you take a careful survey of the area and find that nothing untoward. Seems you are too big a prey as a group for most predators. You put traps and warning signals around the camp to be sure.
Thael moves around making a quick shelter for all and starts a fire with practice ease. All move toward the warmth.
The rumbles have been here for a while and are packed with frozen water. It will take some work to free the passage but one thing is sure no living creature would be able to survive behind the rocks.

Seeing Thael at work, Annique a bit belatedly helps in setting up the campsite. "Thank you Thael for the fire."
She then turns her attention towards the rubble, seeing what she can do to clear any of it. Running into the ice hardening everything in place, she attempts to use her warhammer a bit break it up. Then setting it down she removes a bit of rubble before repeating the process again. She pauses in the work to look at the others. "Is this even getting anywhere?" (She would try to asses for herself whether it seems like the group might be able to actually get all the rubble removed or if it might be futile.)
(Wisdom check: 21 - my guess as to an appropriate check!)
