So, if we went with crime, what DC would net say 200 gold? What skills would I be rolling against? Would there be any advantage because of his wild shape abilities?
Hex, we've got a week. Just because Sylyra's pouting again at the beginning doesn't mean there might not be opportunities for RP later on in the tenday.
Hex isn't the persistent type and so when Sylyra doesn't talk to her the first time she tries, she doesn't ask again. She would try to bump into him throughout the week though, attempting to get him to be more comfortable with her so that perhaps he'd tell her what's up on his own accord. She also invites both Sylyra and Uragum to join her lunch or dinner a few times during the week, stating that they should all get to know each other better if they were going to continue not only working together but working well with each other.
OOC: The stolen gold for the "Crime" downtime activity ranges from 50gp to 1000gp as the DC increases. The DC increasing represents more illustrious targets. DC 10 = struggling merchant, 15 = prosperous merchant, 20 = noble, 25 = one of the richest figures in town. There are three checks made, Stealth, DEX (w/ thieves tools), and player's choice of Investigation, Perception, or Deception. The more checks that succeed, the more gold is obtained. The more checks that fail, the more risk of getting caught in the act. I'll say that Sylyra's ability to Wild Shape can replace the missing proficiency with thieves' tools.
Once all that has been determined, and any more RP between characters has had time to finish, I'll resolve all the downtime here.
Let's do prosperous merchant. If things go well, he might try to hit one of the uppity nobles who turned their backs on him once his money dried up.
Another plea for bonuses: Would it give me any kind of advantage (not actual advantage — unless it does! — but perhaps another bonus) if the "prosperous merchant" is the Cracked Crown, and I can try to convince Nikwin, the groom, who is an ally, to help?
During his solitary time of pouting reflection and plotting planning following Ola's revelation, Sylyra began to loathe Phlan. Never has he been forced to remain in such a disagreeable place for so long. The people are dull. The nightlife is laughable. The social opportunities are lackluster. He thought he might be able to make a go of it. He was going to show his parents he could do it. He was going to make them see how prosperous he could be on his own. He wanted them to beg for him to return to Waterdeep. But how is that ever going to happen? Sure, adventuring pays the bills, but what is he supposed to do? How long can he keep putting his life on the line to make such meager wages? He thought there was treasure to be had. REAL treasure. He was tricked into joining the Harpers and now, what good is that? He's become Olisara's dog. Go here. Go there. Report back. What fortune is there in that? There was money in Phlan. His father's money. Wasanthi money. He'd spent quite a bit at The Gem Mine, but Mr. Justinian (the owner) had always been very respectful of Sylyra. Genuine. Sylyra had no intention of taking out his frustration on the dwarf. But Wirenth Joydark, the manager of the Cracked Crown — that's someone who deserved to be taken down a peg or two. He'd lined his pockets with Sylyra's money the weeks he stayed at the establishment. Just as soon as the money ran out, his true colors were revealed. Never had Sylyra been treated so rudely. The only good thing about that place was Nikwin, the groom. The evenings he spent helping Nikwin tend to the horses were some of the happiest memories he had in years. Despite their extreme difference in station — one a noble and one a servant — the two shared an Elven heritage, a love of and respect for animals, and ... Well, one good thing about needing to move out of the Crown and into Madame Freona’s Tea Kettle was severing that ... Before it became ... ... But could he be useful? Sylyra began to formulate what he was sure would be his next considerable steps toward freedom.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
HEX:
OOC: No changes needed for downtime, as living expenses have been offset by the Practicing a Profession activity.

SYLYRA:
OOC: I dig the thought that went into the RP and it actually fits well with the upcoming adventure's setting, so I'll have Nikwin make a Deception check to assist with your Perception check (kind of advantage but his modifier is not as good) in exchange for a small cut.
With Nikwin's placement at the Cracked Crown, you are able to devise a small heist involving a local ale merchant who has arrived at the inn to discuss business with its proprietor. Nikwin, who is treated well at the expensive establishment, is hesitant to assist without at least a small share of the payout. It becomes quickly apparent that he is not good at this sort of affair. Unable to delay the merchant in the stables as long as is needed, you hear him awkwardly trying to stall the man in the hallway as he returns to his room. The sudden entrance cuts your heist off early, but you are able to grab a portion of the goods before escaping unseen.
OOC: Added 50 gp to Sylyra's inventory from the partly successful heist. Nikwin would only ask for a small cut, since you were doing the bulk of the work and he is a good friend of yours, so you can determine what that is based on your earnings. Subtracted 10 gp in living expenses.

URAGUM:
OOC: Uragum actually wouldn't be able to copy the flame blade spell to his spellbook, as it is not on the wizard's spell list. Sylyra would have been able to read the spell scroll and determine what spell it represents in the downtime. The ring of fire resistance is attuned!
Uragum can train toward proficiency with an herbalism kit, which will allow him to craft potions of healing, or he can spend this downtime to research the formula for a specific magic item that he is interested in obtaining. The more rare the magic item is, the more improbable/impossible it will be able to find and craft over the course of the campaign. Let me know which option he would like to do during this downtime and I will adjust the gold spent as necessary. Removed 10 gp for now for living expenses.
After meeting with Nikwin soon after devising his plan, Sylyra is immediately in a better mood. When Hex attempts to chat him up, Sylyra is willing to join her, though he is mysterious and elusive when she asks what he's up to. He has also shed his earlier reservations of being seen with Uragum despite the goliath's tarnished reputation.
(We can RP some interactions if you want.)
After the heist is a bust, Sylyra meets Nikwin back at the stables as planned. The elf is not happy, but is sympathetic. He hands 10 gold over to the groom and encourages him to work on his skills. "Keep an eye out for another mark," Sylyra says, running his fingers through his long, white-blond hair. "We'll try again later." He gives Nikwin a handsome smile and leaves.
What a waste. Ten days of planning up in smoke. Sylyra's mind is a whirl with what-ifs as he walks back to the Laughing Goblin. At least there's the possibility of something big there.

Sorry mates. I put it on my computer yesterday and hit post but it was running slow as molasses yesterday so doesn't seem to have posted. Thought maybe researching a ring of protection. Maybe our friends at the library will be helpful.
Looks like it might provide advantage so I'll just roll twice.
A tenday of searching yields little in the way of results for Uragum, even with the large library of Phlan. Though the age of many of the books in the library is promising, and there are more than a few that describe items with wondrous qualities, he does not find any that reveal the nature of the items sufficiently enough to craft them. The library is quite large, however, leaving many a title that the wizard has not yet perused.

Nikwin takes the coin abashedly, the reward seeming to steel his nerves. He nods and returns to his work, breathing a sigh of relief.
OOC: Adjusted Sylyra's gold. Waiting lastly on Uragum's response to downtime questions, and any more desired RP before closing this adventure out.
