EDIT: We lost like three players. Looking to fill those slots and then I'll work out if we just continue on or restart or whatevs.
Current Party: Bard Ranger
I'm going to be putting together another campaign to run here in the forum!
Expectations are as follow:
Party size will be 5.
Starting level will be 11. The reason for this being...It's a campaign to kill a god, Joebob the Farmer who just recently found out his dad boinked a dragon so he's got magic is not going to be taking up this task. Unsure of the ending level, but it will be pretty up there.
I enjoy RP a lot. This is not a roll-dice-smash-heads-only type of campaign. There will be puzzles you must solve, information you must find, and allies you must gain.
Semi-loose posting requirements. Once a day is preferred - if you miss days don't make a habit of it and let us know in advance if you can. On that note, I'll be gone for over a week mid June for a vacation. This may be slowed down in the future as schedules require.
I'm most active U.S. East 6pm - 2am. All timezones welcome though.
Roll for ability scores, re-roll 1's. Same to level up hit-die if you roll for those instead of taking the average.
Pretty much all published content should be okay. Just ask if you aren't sure.
Here's an info dump: A broken world, shattered by a divine war that saw the destruction of all pantheons. Alone among the ruin stood Ixarus, the Absolute. Declaring himself the one true god of all, that which remained of mortalkind soon found itself forced beneath his tyrannical rule. Millennia have passed since the Absolute’s reign began. Resistances have been put down mercilessly, their leaders made examples of for all to see. Inquisitions have risen to hunt the faithless, heretics, and those otherwise deemed unworthy, striking fear into the hearts of the populace. Despite this, there still remain those willing to rebel, risking the vengeful wrath of the lone god.
They meet in the long abandoned sanctuaries of the old deities, where vestiges of their power still yet remain - enough to shield them from the ever-watchful eyes of Ixarus. In secret, they plot his demise.
To walk this path is to sacrifice everything, the task you face is considered impossible, the obstacles you must overcome - overwhelming. This journey would shatter the will of ordinary people, and cause the courage of legendary heroes to waver. Do you have what it takes to become a godslayer?
Belorion The southernmost country of Mera, encompassing a region that came out of the Divine War relatively unscathed. It is ruled by King Neram, whose authority is superseded only by the archbishop and Ixarus himself. Though it is one of the easier nations of Mera to live in, all of its citizens still feel the oppression of the Absolute. Neighbor spies on neighbor, reporting their smallest infractions to the local priests in vain attempts to curry favor. Inquisitors snatch loved ones in the dead of night, never to be seen again. The people live in fear, though they dare not show it in public, lest they draw the ire of the church.
All nations of Mera worship Ixarus, but they do not live in harmony - in fact, the Absolute finds entertainment in pitting the mortal powers against one another. Belorion currently finds itself embroiled in a conflict against the Thezar Confederacy, a mageocratic nation across the Lasting Sea. Knight templars battle along the Saline Coast, as the Confederacy pushes its invasion further into Belorion’s territory.
Amidst the chaos of the war, conspirators begin to make their moves against the mad god, gathering at Sanctuary, in the shadow of the Dreadreach Mountains…
More Info Dump:
For Clerics, this setting may seem difficult. A Cleric of Ixarus will almost certainly have their power stripped the moment they move against him. The other deities are dead, but vestiges of their power remain. These vestiges have little in the way of consciousness, but there are those who have found sacred rites to draw upon their power...Your faith will be a closely guarded secret however. Druidic worshipers of nature would likewise be seen as heretics.
In Belorion, users of the arcane are reviled, in no small part due to the near constant conflicts with the mageocractic nation to the north.
NOTE: You can still play these classes, and it's encouraged. Just wanted the RP implications to be out in the open before you go trying to impress a barmaid with prestidigitation
While the other deities are long gone, other creatures loyal to them may still yet remain. Powerful entities that have likewise suffered underneath the Absolute may be willing to form pacts with mortals set upon the course of deicide.
With the exception of the Thezar Confederacy, Mera is relatively low arcane. Do not expect to find many arcane casters, and don't expect a great many magic items.
This campaign will loosely follow a quest to complete seven tasks required to slay a god. There will be more than enough room for side story, character drive quests, or whatever madness you find yourselves involved in.
Application Stuff: If you want more help with character creation(lore stuff, or help with concepts) just ask!

Clive Roughbeam - Human v - Paladin (devotion) - Folk Hero
Clive lived in a village near the Saline Coast where the Confederacy has invaded. He believed his time had come, defending his home against the invaders. He prayed to Ixxarus for answers and salvation, but his prayers fell on deaf ears. So he began to make promises to the air, swearing in hidden glades of the wood by calm pools that he would be a shield for all his people if only he had the strength. He was never sure if this was connected, but he saw a unicorn that night...
Strength came to him. Again, and again, it came every time the Coast needed to beat back enemy scouts or landing parties. Often, he and his neighbors were forced to retreat inland, but still his strength never failed to protect life.
His people were brought to a protected valley. From there, time finally slowed enough for him to realize his hate for Ixxarus, who refused to stand for them. He tried to stir up his neighbors to the same ideal, but... they saw magic. And when they needed it, they said nothing, but now? Now they were afraid.
Clive was forced to leave, although he doesn’t blame them. He has to keep his goal in mind. So now he travels, helping who he can - however ungrateful. And keeping an eye out for help to arrive.
Race/ background: variant human sage wizard (order of scribes if ok)
motivation to kill Ixarus: knowledge of history
Crissoph is a middle-aged human - an eccentric scholarly type, who has grown very disturbed by the “Mad God’s” machinations- (as he secretly refers to the Absolute) the insanity he has driven the world to.
A sage and scholar of history and religion of some repute, who teaches at university in Belorion’s capital city, he appears as a bit of a doddering Fool- incompetent in all but scholarly pursuits and woefully unprepared for the real world. He gets lost in his own university, misplaces his notes, frequently is zoned out and not paying attention, and seems to be very clumsy and hard of hearing. Despite this carefully constructed false persona- he secretly has been developing his magical skills and researching hidden arcana for years with one, insane, goal- find a way to forever end the tyranny of Ixarus. Well aware of the fear of wizards and arcane magic- not even his closest companions have any idea he is an accomplished wizard. (Skilled in deception, has occasionally used modify memory spells to cover up when he’s been discovered, uses invisibility when needed, etc)
he has a pet grey striped cat named Mr. Tabs (actually a familiar, which helps with watching to protect his cover story)

Backstory and motivation: Shunning the pettiness and corruption of the urban world, Azikar committed himself to living as simply and remotely as possible. He believed, rather shortsightedly, that the wild, untamed lands would insulate him from the cruelty and recklessness of those who serve the Absolute. For many years, it seemed Azikar was correct, but recently the voices of those loyal to the archbishop have been heard in the high places. These zealots of Ixarus eventually began to destroy or defile anything that might be deemed sacred or magical by those who lived among the trees and under the stars: felling majestic trees, fouling streams and ponds, and razing druidic holy sites. Azikar's resolve to stay out of the fight was completely broken when his dear friend and ally, the druid Mindarian Grey, was beaten nearly to death and then taken away. His mind now set on vengeance, Azikar joins the others at Sanctuary.

Thalia Half-Elf Twilight Cleric To the young Thalia, the world was a cruel place, made that way by the Absolute and carried out by the people beneath him. At the earliest opportunity she left it, braving the wilds to escape from hatred and pain that civilization offered. For years she wandered across the continent, avoiding any settlement larger than a hamlet.
In her journey, she found a grove seeping in the power of a slain divine, a place where it was always twilight; a place where she could find peace. Many like her have come through since then, those seeking to escape the oppression of the Absolute. Though they never stayed, she did all in her power to help them in their own journey. For some she left the grove, making sure they found their way to their destination.
Somewhat similar to the Sanctuary, her grove is a place hidden from the gaze of Ixarus. The musings of those that would see this god ended are familiar to her ears, but it wasn't until recently that she began to take them seriously. Something changed in her grove, a stirring in the divine energies that suffused it with power. The slain, nameless deity of Twilight that granted her peace for so many years was forever gone, but a vestige of its will remained. She knew what it desired, and she could not let it go unanswered after the kindness she had been shown. The mad god Ixarus would fall, and her hand would be among the many to bring it about.
Are these creatures capable of both bonds as warlocks OR clerics?
Depends on the creature. If you have a cleric in mind, it will have to be something touched by the divine. So a particularly powerful celestial, or something on its way to godhood itself.

Name: Eleriel Safsys
Race: Half-Elf
Class: Paladin
Backstory: Her story is like most: for her entire life, the Absolute has done nothing but take from her. Taking her home. Taking her friends. Taking her family. But she is not alone. For generations this story has repeated, and its cyclic tragedy has made enemies abound for Ixarus. Eleriel belongs to a secretive order of knights, who search the land for artifacts or information that may bring about the end of this nightmare.

Name: Gedyr A Lhuig
Race: High Elf
Class: Fighter 4 / Wizard 7
Backstory: A high lord among the Elves, Gedyr and his family lost everything when the inquisition discovered their worship of the old Elven gods...He was the last survivor escaping execution at the last moment. He has been on the run ever since, vowing vengeance against the inquisition and all who serve the vile god Ixarus.
And anyone else with abysmal luck moving forward. If your array comes out less than standard(72), re-roll it. Variation, randomness, lows & highs are fun. But getting steamrolled by the digi-dice like that is not lol.

Name ~ Aiden Gleamtree Race ~ Human(v) Class ~ Warlock Backstory ~ Streets, abandoned buildings, and in the shadows of crumbling architecture are the only places Aiden called home in his youth. Though there are vague impressions of a man and woman in his memory, who they were or what happened to them has long since withered from his mind. He survived on the outskirts of society, fortunate enough to be one of the ones never captured by the church's enforcers that roamed the streets. Too many of his friends were too slow, or took a wrong turn, or were just plain unlucky. He never saw them again.
Despite the harsh start he received, made no easier by Ixarus' attack dogs, he would have been content to live out the rest of his life mucking up whatever low lifestyle he could manage. But that was not to be.
Instead, a chance meeting with a strange cult set him upon a twisting, convoluted path in opposition to the Absolute. For once, he had found purpose.
The shadowy entity worshipped by the Raven's Guard promised a restoration of balance to the world, and the power and knowledge to bring about such change. His last few years have been spent scouring the countryside on the cult's order, making backroom deals, gaining knowledge, and gathering strength.
And anyone else with abysmal luck moving forward. If your array comes out less than standard(72), re-roll it. Variation, randomness, lows & highs are fun. But getting steamrolled by the digi-dice like that is not lol.
Backstory - For generations, the Greateye family in the Thezar Confederacy has maintained and passed down their disdain for Ixarus. The details of how or why this hatred began have been lost to time, but every child in the family is taught from a young age that the one true god is evil and will one day meet his end. Some Greateyes take these lessons more seriously than others; there are some who just want to mind their own business and live their lives in relative peace while others act in the shadows to fight back against the influence of Ixarus. Geffery is about as far toward the side of the latter as anyone in his family. He has dedicated his life to combatting the influence of Ixarus and supporting others in his community, while working as the cook in a tavern on the side. Now aging and without an heir, Geffery finds himself becoming increasingly aggressive and reckless in his efforts against Ixarus. He recently heard about a group forming in Belorion with the goal of destroying Ixarus once and for all. He was overcome with the overwhelming feeling that he absolutely needed to be a part of this group so he joined up with the Confederacy's army, serving as a cook and battle medic. He made it to Belorion with the army and promptly deserted to seek out this newly forming group. He understood that this would be the end for him; after deserting the army he could no longer return home, could never again see any of the people he knew back home. Despite all this, he was determined to do what needed to be done, to fulfill the destiny of his great family and see to the destruction of Ixarus.
Motivation for wanting to kill Ixarus - His family has been steadfastly opposed to Ixarus for generations and Geffery has dedicated his life to pushing back against the influence of Ixarus. He believes this is his opportunity to rid the world of this evil influence once and for all.

Name - Gus Broom Race - Hill Dwarf Class - Barbarian Backstory - still a bit to be fleshed out but here it is so far...
Raised in the lush forests and rolling hills and valleys, Gus was raised by his parents run free and eschew the mental chains that bind most mortals in the land. The earth itself was his muse - it's animals, it's rocks, it's cruelty and beauty - these were the things that mattered, not some babble about the "absolute" or some such nonsense. His parents were different and connected to the earth in a way that didn't come as easily to him. They could speak to the birds, laugh with the deer, and joke with the wolves. All that Gus seemed to be good at was cleaning! Everyday after another failed training session, his pa would say, "Gus," and hold out the broom towards him.
One day on the way into town, his family stopped to help a group of travelers - merchants by the looks of their dress - who were being attacked by a bear. Without a thought, Gus' father and mother hopped down off the cart and began doing weird passes in the air with teir hands. They were able to calm the beast and send it off back into the forests. But the damage was done - people saw them calm the beast down somehow. Saving a life never proved so costly, as the ones they just saved were happy enough to run fearfully to the next town, where the guard was waiting. Luckily, Gus' parents know better than to bring Gus to market the rest of the way, and hid him on a cottage outside of the village. Gus' parents were put in the stockade.
Creeping into the village in the evening, Gus talked to his parents without drawing the attention of the guards. This would be the last time he would speak with them both as an investigator came out in the morning, asked a few questions of his mother and father before slitting both their throats - big., smiling gashes that just wouldn't stop bleeding. SOmething broke inside of Gus and he could only see red. Thankfully, a older, half-naked giant of a human held him back before he went and did something stupid. Gus vowed to destroy this sect of cowards and close-minded killers, regardless of the cost.
His savour that day taught him many things, most importantly, how to channel his anger and rage into something more manageable. Gus left after a while, roaming the forests and countryside, killing any and all who were part of his parents murder - and anyone else who proclaimed special right to rule over another person. Motivation for wanting to kill Ixarus - Gods, deities, demi-gods, demons - bah! Different words for the same old thing: chains and horse manure! If it's not Ixarus, it's some other limp-wristed lacky looking down their nose at everyone else! The only real thing in this world is the riddle of steel, and I am to use it with prejudice against them what think they deserve to rule.

Name - Calanon Daerthe
Race - Dhamphir born a half elf
Class - Fighter (Echoknight)
Backstory - Before the fall of the other gods, Calanon came from a longline of famous holy knights. They served in many armies and crusades to end the evils that plagued the world, this being exactly what Calanon was raised to do. This of course all changed after the death of the other gods, bringing his family to fall from grace. Some chose to fight back while others splintered off and prayed to Ixarus to retain the powers they had grown so used to.
That was at least the young half elf was taught as he grew up, his father claiming this was the ancient history of a once great family. In reality though they were little more then hired muscle for whoever paid them to fight, going all across Mera to fight for whichever petty warlord handed over the most coin. This arrangement worked well as his family had learned to harness a somewhat unquie fighting style, calling upon echoes of themselves from across time and space.
This life style worked well as Calanon did not take long to become a skilled fighter in his own right, mastering the abilities of calling upon his own echoes. Eventually they were hired to fight for a warlord who failed to tell them their target was a powerful priest of Ixarus. As was expected of fighting a powerful cleric Calanon and his group were quickly defeated, his father being killed with a spell that left him as a mindless undead abomination. For his own punishment, Calanon was given over to be the food supply for the priest that was actually a vampire. He was going to be made into nothing more then a vampire spawn but due to some event he was not fully turned, instead becoming a Dhamphir.
With his new abilities Calanon was barely able to escape, fleeing from the vampiric cleric. Driven by a need for blood he fled into the wilderness in order to gain control of himself.
Motivation for wanting to kill Ixarus - His change into a dhamphir was caused by a vampire cleric of Ixarus that used him and his family for dark rituals.
