Zodge returns to the gate house, nods to Alysa and shows his keys to signal that their chase had been successful. Then he signals the waiting men to stand down and resume their assigned watch posts.
He looks around and waves Jhasso and Hal to come over to him, asking them to show him the draft letter. He then looks at Bryce and signals him to come over too. "You did great out there, young man. I think, you could one day make an impact if you joined the Flaming Fist! But for now, I am one person short for this next assignment. Maybe you'd like to join in? I'll explain more in a minute."
Then he turns and looks at the fairy. With a lowered voice he speaks: "You! You let him get away. You had time to stop the thief, but you did nothing. For that, I could have your head." He pauses for impact. "But I need every soul I can draft. So you owe me one. Tell me your name. I will send you on an assignment with these guys", pointing to the other adventurers, "and when complete, you will have redeemed yourself. If you, however, " he steps a little closer to the fairy, "decide to run away or sabotage the mission, then I will find you and I will kill you."
"Now," he takes a deep breath and nods at Alysa. "I'll send you, Alysa, to organise these guys and to make sure that the mission is completed successfully. This is what I need you to do:"
“The refugee crisis,” says Captain Zodge, “has stoked fears that Baldur’s Gate might suffer the same fate as Elturel, of which nothing remains but a hole in the ground, apparently. Our grand duke, Ulder Ravengard, was visiting Elturel on a diplomatic mission when the city was destroyed. Coincidence? I think not.
“The knights of Elturgard call themselves Hellriders. A few of them escaped the destruction and think we’re somehow to blame for Elturel’s downfall. What a bunch of self-righteous rabble-rousers! We, the Flaming Fist, are arresting them on sight, but that’s left us shorthanded to deal with another problem. For that, I need your help.”
He gives each character a copper badge that bears the Flaming Fist’s coat of arms. These badges give the characters license to act in Zodge’s name.
“Baldur’s Gate has long been plagued by followers of the Dead Three — the gods Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul. I thought we had wiped them out, but apparently not. These purveyors of fear and death are taking advantage of the current crisis to commit murder sprees throughout the city. As my appointed deputies in this matter, you’ll have license to kill these wretches on sight. Find their lair, and wipe it out. Eliminate anyone who gets in your way, and don’t worry about collateral damage."
“If you do what I say, I’ll see that you each receive two hundred gold pieces in addition to my gratitude, which is worth considerably more."
Alysa nods. "As you wish, Captain" She is not entirely sure how this team of newcomers will behave and they will work together, but she had worst assignment in the past. She will manage. Waiting to be sure that the Captain was finished talking, she continues: "Any ideas where she should start our investigation first? Baldur's Gate is a large city, and I don't remember a specific place that would strikes me as a place for their lair."
"Yes, Alysa, we have a lead. A few blocks from the Basilisk Gate is Elfsong Tavern. A spy named Tarina hangs out there, gathering rumors for the Guild. She owes me a favor, so tell her you work for me. Ask her what she knows about the Dead Three. And, for the love of Balduran, be nice. Tarina has dangerous friends.”
Alysa is making sure that the situation is finally under control and giving orders to the Fists, the privates of the Flaming Fist. She nods at the young man that helped her to keep the commoners calm by using magic. "Well done, civilian. That is quite an entry. The Flaming Fist appreciates your help" As she was going to approach him, her attention turns to that curious creature brought to the gate.
“Thanks but if I’m joining the organization I’d prefer not to be called civilian, the names Bryce.” Looking at the crowd slowly dissipate he sighs, putting his mace back in his holster. Thinking to himself “If it’s this bad for these people I think we should step in.... I guess I’ll write that in my report to the Lieutenant...”

Listening to the Captain he gives a slight salute “Thank you, sir. I am here to serve the Flaming Fist...” Bryce listens as Zodge threatens the small fairy. He can’t believe the Captain would even threaten a non combat. “Ah, sir isn’t that a bit extreme? Clearly the small thing is lost... Also what have the Hellriders done for them to be arrested on sight?”
“Thanks but if I’m joining the organization I’d prefer not to be called civilian, the names Bryce.”
Alysa gives a sincere smile. "My apologies... Bryce it is."
She then adds with a faint voice. "You can call my Alysa, when we are not in front of my soldiers. I always need to keep them in line". Just as she finishes the sentence, she shouts at one soldier looting some unconscious commoners. "Private Karl, I think that is enough. Leave these poor lads alone. That's an order!"
Remembering that this was a living creature and not an artifact to study, Hal smiled and spoke to her in Sylvan. “You’ve wandered quite far from the Few Wild my friend. I would love to learn more about your home and I know a place that smells better and serves mediocre Elven wine if you have time later on.”
Watching the Fairy hover in front of him, he remembered the guard…and his manners.
“Um, you’re welcome to join us for a drink as well. I just need to get my assignment and initial pay from the captain first of course.”
Nyx is delighted to hear someone, finally, that can speak the civilized language! They flutter in a circle around Hal and respond in Sylvan:
{{"Ah, thank the moonlight! You speak Sylvan. I can't tell you what a relief it is to finally speak to someone civilized. I would love Elven wine, but first I need food. Do you have any nectar or honey? I haven't eaten in days."}}
Then he turns and looks at the fairy. With a lowered voice he speaks: "You! You let him get away. You had time to stop the thief, but you did nothing. For that, I could have your head." Nyx is rudely interrupted in their conversation by the brash and ill tempered human captain. Nyx looks unblinkingly and with contempt at the lout.
{{"Threaten us, do you?"}}, they reply in Sylvan, confident that the ignorant human cannot possibly understand. {{"You are not the first mortal to do so nor will you be the last. In time you will learn, as have countless before you, what it means to have the enmity of the fey."}}
Jhasso addresses the solder girl member of the Flaming Fist: "This man believes this girl's name is Alysa. Well met. If this man may ask, what did happen to Elturel?"
Jhasso addresses the solder girl member of the Flaming Fist: "This man believes this girl's name is Alysa. Well met. If this man may ask, what did happen to Elturel?"
Alysa nods at the strange man. "Nice to met you, Jhasso. Yes, my name is Alysa. About Elturel, well, not much is known since the city is now in a lockdown. And I am still a low rank in the Flaming Fist, which means I do not have access to intel. The current rumours are that the whole city disappeared, leaving a large hole where it used to stand. What could have caused that ? I have no clue, but my gut feeling is telling me this smells like Arcane magic. A whole city doesn't vanish in thin air like that..."

"This predicament is, if a girl allows the word, interesting. This man suggests doing firstly the things that come first. Elfsong Tavern awaits... this group."
Zodge replies to Bryce:"The hellriders are stirring up trouble in Baldur’s Gate, it's leading to violence and bloodshed. So we are putting an end to it! How dare they, hold us responsible!"

"I like your style, Jhasso, straight to the point. If there are no other matters, I agree we could move to the tavern." Alysa looks at the strange group in front of her. Such a combinaison could maybe work out, only time will tell.
As the human captain has stopped threatening Nyx for now, they turn their attention to the group, flitting from one member to another, and looking for anything that looks like food.

Alysa, being a skilled cook and having work in a restaurant in her childhood, recognises a starving creature when she sees one. She looks around to see if nobody from the Flaming Fist is looking and reaches inside her side bag. She recovers a cupcake made of lemon and honey and propose it to the Fairy. "Here, little one. You seems hungry. You better take some force before starting our investigation"
OOC: using my last cake. The cupcake gives Nyx 2 temp. HP
Delighted that Alysa could give Nyx something to eat, Hal thought, ‘Huh, it looks like there is a soft side to the brute’.
Hearing Zodge threaten Nyx and then smiling at Nyx’s response, Hal just turned to the gruff captain and replied, “She said that she would be happy to join and can’t wait to inflict pain on rude, I mean cultist-following Humans. Oh, and I’m in too. Here’s my draft paperwork.”
Hal was relieved to hear that this quick, little gig would earn him 200 gp, through he doubted that the captain’s gratitude was worth more. Gratitude wasn’t going to pay for the equipment, transportation, and bribing officials that he would need to get into the old tomb near of Fort Morninglord that he had been casing for the past 6 months. Actually, Zodge probably could help with bribing or at least intimidating some of the higher-ups at the fort…
Zodge replies to Bryce:"The hellriders are stirring up trouble in Baldur’s Gate, it's leading to violence and bloodshed. So we are putting an end to it! How dare they, hold us responsible!"
"Right... Of course." Bryce will look a bit lost for words. Hearing the others readying themselves "Ah, yes let's hed to the tavern, I am ready if everyone else is." While traveling Bryce moves along side with Hal" I don't think we heard your name friend? You seem to understand our little fairy friends words back there. Can i ask where you learned such a thing?"
Zodge huffs at Hal's reply and sends you all on your way. You all get copper badges with the Flaming Fist Emblem handed out.
You're a motley group of hired adventurers now, walking towards your first assignment. It is just after noon and the weather is nice. Maybe a bit too hot and humid for a long walk through a crowded city. While weaving through lots of people in the streets getting their lunch at street vendors, it takes you a bit less than an hour to arrive at your destination.

Nyx snifs, then takes a cautious bite of the confection. An explosion of lemon and honey hits their taste buds. Their eyes widen. The cupcake is unlike anything they've ever experienced. Nyx flies around Alysa in repeated circles.
Flanking the entrance are two bouncers: a suit of animated armour and a gruff female half-ogre. They watch you as you enter.
The usual smell of old beer, sweat and a little underlying tone of urine hits you right away. It is still one of the better establishments though, at least for the lower city. At this time of the day you find some patrons finishing off their lunches and heading out into the bustling city again. A couple of tables are filled with what seem to be business meetings of sorts. Maybe some businesses that need a little dark corner and some beer, mostly conducted in the private booths along the west wall. Some regular patrons are seated at the bar, the kind of slow but constant drinkers, staying all day.
Three padded chairs are angled toward a fireplace on the east wall, underneath the creaky wooden staircase that climbs to the second floor from where you can hear a faint clicking of dice. A drunk is passed out on the couch against the north wall. Next to the couch sits an open wooden sea chest that contains an assortment of games.
Behind the bar you find an older half-elf, looking expectantly in your direction. Two more servers run between the tables, clear away dirty dishes and bring more beer.
Alysa nods at the two bouncers who nod back at her. She has been here before once or twice and knows it is a respectable place.
She looks at her new group and realises that they all have this je ne sais quoi, a soft face or a friendly attitude. Maybe she should let them talk and join the conversation only if some muscles are needed. “I am not the best at talking or bartering for information in a friendly manner. I’ll stay at the bar, keeping an eye out.”
She places her coat in a way that covers her armour or any sign of the Flaming Fist - People are far less talkative with the Flaming Fist officier - Her belly starts to make some noise, good timing for being in a tavern. She sits at the bar and orders an ale and something to eat, keeping her ears open for any rumours.
Jhasso enters comfortably in the tavern. He doesn't pay attention to the bouncers or the other patrons, as he is distracted by the fireplace... but no, that will come later. Firstly, he approaches the half-elf bartender: " A man greets you, bartender, respectfully. The organization known as Flaming Fist has sent us with official capacity, searching for a woman that goes by the name of Tarina."
