Ash finished her tart and rose, nodding respectfully at the Dean. "I don't need much, but shall take a look. Thank you." She wasn't sure if she should wait to be excused. Some fancy types liked that sort of thing. She guessed this one wasn't that type of fancy, and turned to go from the room and prepare for the upcoming journey. She committed the name Cadderly to memory. He would be the one to point her where she needed to go. All she had to do was play the part of bodyguard.
As you are wondering if you should excuse yourself, there is a knock on the office door. Rufo leads in a 5 foot tall human woman. She has unkept strawberry blond hair and is remarkably beautiful. Altho she appears delicate you can see her small frame is composed of rock hard muscle, two jeweled daggers are sheathed on either side of her thighs. Boxing bandages wrap her fists.
This is Miss Danica - she will be joining your party tomorrow. She has been at the library for a whole year studying the teachings of an ancient Monk, Sir Penn.
It is a pleasure to meet you both.
Her gaze is penetrating as she scans you both and with a curt nod of acceptance turns back to the Dean. Rufo opens the door and motions for you both to exit. His thirtsty gaze on the young woman is a bit too intense for polite company. Miss Danica catches his eye and her features hardened- Rufo quickly looking to the ground.
Apologies, but if you would excuse us - we have a few things to discuss. The work of the Dean is never ending!
OOC - Feel free to add anything to convos after the fact, but I'd like to keep us moving.
You all have private rooms at the library. Make any preparations / purchases you'd like. Your party includes 6 members Merai, Pox, Ash, Little Iron and Cadderly + Danica.
OOC - Once everyone is ready it can be next day - Canticle --WOHOO!
Little Iron's eye narrow slightly as he inspects the woman, sensing there is more to her than first appearances would allow. He took in every detail, the length of her hair, the lack of the typical feminine adornments, her skin looking somewhat weathered from experience not age, the color of her garb not strikingly bright colors, the wraps around her forearms and hands, the wear shown in her boots. Delicate or rugged? No, formidable.
With a soft smile Little Iron sings, "Scripture says: Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by this test you may discern what is the greater will, for the strength and skill of the body begins in the mind." With a bow to Miss Danica the aasaimar takes his leave, nodding toward Ash to follow.
In the hall, after the door closes, he walks with the Dragonborn. "Partner, mark my words, that woman is not one to be on the wrong side of. She will be a force to be reckoned with and it would be in our best interest to have her fully in our camp." He paused in his stride and turned to his new adventuring companion. "She holds sway, that's clear. If we earn her respect and trust then it will go far in our personal ambitions with the Dean and this library." His eyes darting left to right as he is in thoughts, his mind evaluating all of the possible future scenarios. He cataloged the name Sir Penn for future learning.
He grins coming out of his own thoughts and looks squarely at Ash, "The first one will be to be sure the Dean holds up his part of the bargain to find your mum. We get this envoy back, safe as houses, and we will have earned quite a bit of clout, trust me! Good thing you've got me along on this ride." He raises his arm to pat the Dragonborn on the bicep as a sign of reassurance, hesitates, and rethinks his reflexive action.
Standing up straight, slightly arching his back in a stretch, he looks about. "Well, I guess it's time I meet the the others. Any idea where I can find them?"

You can tell that your scripture quote strikes a deep chord with her - a small grin playing on her face and subconscious nod as you take your leave.

Ash and Little Iron - Each Roll Investigation Checks to locate the other members around the library. Remember, Add +2 as you were both present at the canticle and this is an INT based skill. Deneir and Oghma's blessing is upon you.
Ash smiled at the newcomer, and it would be noticeable considering she scowled through most of tea. Something about the new woman seemed to please Ash's eye and she fumbled through, "nice to meet you." With that, Little Iron saved her from having to talk, and while she didn't normally enjoy being told where to go, or who to follow, this time she was thankful for the clear exit. "Be seeing you again I hope," she said, immediately thinking that sounded stupid. Once outside, she looked over her partner in more detail. He liked to talk. That much was clear. What was he good at though? What did he do successfully?
His words regarding her mother warmed her. Perhaps, this fair skinned man was not so bad. He seemed to want to help her with her own quest after only hearing her mention it to the Dean.
"Yeah, I want her to like me," Ash replied to Little Iron regarding Danica, but whether it was for clout or for other reasons wasn't clear. "I saw an elf, a bird and a gnome that I think are among our number," she said, pointing back in the direction she'd met them. "But why not come with me to get equipment? If they're coming along, I suspect they'll be shopping as well."
(OOC: Thinking what to buy, will have my shopping list in my next reply)
As you enter the Great Hall you see the little messenger boy from earlier. Your gazes meet and he realizes you are searching for something. As a messenger, he also trades in whispers in hopes of a gold tip.
I hear talk you are all off on an adventure tomorrow. Cadderly, Merai, Pox and Miss Dancia, plus you and the Dragon Lady. I saw the lot of them head for the shops - no doubts to prepare for your quest.
He motions toward some wooden doors off the to the side of the great Hall with various shop signs posted about. He hovers a bit, waiting to see if you will tip.
Little Iron meets the boys gaze, and smiles at the youthful exuberance. "It would appear that what is said and done within these walls finds finds good soil in your ears. Here's a tip from scripture: hold it fast in an honest and in good heart, and what you hear will bear fruit with patience."
Bending down to one knee he reaches into his pouch, "You charge a steep fee for your services little one. Especially since there are signs and maps for the library everywhere." He waves his hand in the direction, "But it would be unsporting of me to suggest your information has no value. This gold is because I see a little bit of myself in you, I like your moxie kid." He presses the coin into the young boys awaiting palm. The aasimar chuckles and he heads to the shops.
The boy's features light up at the Gold Piece. You can tell your words had gone a bit above his head - as he is only 10.
Thank you sir - I am always here to help if ever ya need me.
You walk into the first shop - an alchemy shop run by an old wizened man. The room smells of strange chemicals and the others of your party are mulling about. Cadderly is given a strange flask from the shopkeeper which he quickly hides beneath his robes. He hands over a large coin purse in exchange - they both seem a little bit flustered and on edge about the exchange. You overhear the shopkeeper who cuts himself off as he notices new arrivals.
Now remember you didn't get this from me and I know you are aware of how dangerous this concoction can ---
Cadderly shoots a disarming smile.
Ahh looks like the Party is all here. Excited for the expedition?
Merai- Also in the Alchemist shop is a stunningly beautiful high elven girl with purple eyes and long golden hair. She wears deep purple scholar’s robes, walks with a staff, and has a tiny elf owl (owl the size of a sparrow) on one shoulder.
Pox is also there, a young gnome clad in gaudy colors with a mischievous grin, messy brown hair and brown eyes.
((You can see their pictures on their character sheets which are shared in the campaign log))
Merai smiles at the newcomers and says “Welcome! I am Merai, cleric of Deneir and now focused on mastering the arcane arts of wizardry. I am very pleased to meet you. We form quite the adventuring party. This is Pox”- (Here Pox’s grin widens more and he takes a bow, hastily putting something back on the shelf)” He is also studying the arcane arts to help with his… umm… other skills.” She smiles broadly. I’d love to hear more about you two- we only just briefly met Ash, and we didn’t meet yet although I saw you at the ceremony, “she says looking at Little Iron.
(Pox is going arcane trickster, he will be one level behind the party)

Ash stuck behind Little Iron, happy to let him do the talking as her eyes scanned her surroundings with interest. Once inside the shop, her gaze fixated on Cadderly, although she nodded at each of her companions. They seemed a merry group, and as long as they didn't make her hold hands and sing songs that would be fine. It might even be pleasant to be around agreeable folk. She made sure to nod at the boy too, although she still didn't like him nearly as much as Little Iron.
"I'm from far away," she stated in reply to Merai's desire to get better acquainted. "I don't spend a lot of time around people outside my clan, so sorry if I'm... ugh... quiet."
Once inside the alchemy shop, she did a little business. Okpara nodded when asked if she was excited for the trip, but decided to let the others do the talking for the moment. She stuck close to Little Iron though, as he was the one she knew the best at this point. With her business done, she would head towards her room to prepare for what she expected would be an argues journey. I

He circles Merai unable to mask his fascination with her hair. Coming full circle to stand in front of her he continues, "I am the most skilled barber born in the last 300 years, if you ever need my services I would be honored."
Little Iron looks at the gnome, the smile and fascination fades. For a brief moment his face takes on the look like he had tasted something bitter. "You my friend, Pox, may be the closest thing I have seen to a hopeless case." He looks over the gnomes hair, a small smile turning up the corners of his mustache. " Good thing for you I don't believe in hopeless cases!" He looks up from the gnome across the shop.
"Cadderly! I had hoped to find you here as well. Nice to see you again." Little Iron approaches had outstretched to receive Cadderly's in a firm hand shake. "How was your winter? Managed to stay out of trouble?"
Turning to the shop keep while shaking Cadderly's hand he says, "If this was the tavern I would say 'I'll have what he's having!' but I know better." He gives a wink to the two men. "What I could really use is a good deal on some alchemist fire. Anyone know where I can find one?"

Cadderly shakes your hand in earnest. You notice Danica's eyes on you like a hawk, her muscles tense, always at the ready to pounce on any danger, especially in regard to her lover the goofy, absent minded scholar Cadderly.
Why Good enough as any. Trouble you say, not since I overslept and missed the Canticle a few months ago - the windows here never let in enough light, especially with mountain peaks - it's a wonder anyone knows what time it is during the winter. Merai and I have been translating a tome on Fungi so not as exciting as this trip to be sure. Alchemist fire you say - Archie can you help us out?
The alchemist (Archie) turns and lets out a long sigh.
Normally these run 50 GP each, but for a friend of Caddery and the Library I have 3 left in stock that I can sell for 25 each to the lot of you.
Once we are done here we should all get some rest. Although this task may seem easy, preparedness is key to our success.
Cadderly nods and they head to the door.
See you all at the Canticle tomorrow - Oh Also - ASH, the Dean informed me of your request. I will source a book or two to bring along on the trip for us to peruse in our downtime.
Cadderly hold his hand up to his lips.
A little secret between the Lot of us - books aren't supposed to leave the premises, but we ARE leaving on LIBRARY business.
Danica steers him out with gruff huff. As soon as they are out of ear shot you hear her berating him for disrespecting his order and the importance of structure and law.
OOC - Let me know if we can move on to the next day!
OOC I will purchase the three alchemist fire and caltrops for 76gp, thank you!
Ready to move on to the next day. Sorry if I have gone over the top on the role play and taken up too much time. Feel free to tell me to slow down if it's too much.
