Elwyn: "Impressive CC, I almost want to convert already, only I have nothing to convert from really. I´ve found it easier to send a prayer to whichever god would be appropriate at the moment. And in this moment I suppose it would be Procan. Still, it is a good deed you are doing, helping folks with their sorrows and such." Elwyn says to CC.
When Ben and Ned has spoken Elwyn adds. "So we are all going then, fantabulous, and we even have our own guide to the place..." smiling at Ned "...we are almost like one of those adventuring parties I´ve heard so many stories about. Perhaps there will be stories about us one day." He says with a dreamy look.
After Bos leaves Elwyn turns to the others at the table. "It´s not my first time on a ship but clearly most of you are veterans on the sea. Any suggestions on how we should do this? Should we send someone up in that birds nest for instance?"
Once he finishes with his meal, Cormac listens to what both Torlin and Bos have to say. As the captain walks off he pulls his crossbow, loading a bolt into place as he begins to make his way toward the upper deck. "The nest would not be a bad place to have someone. If someone is to be goin up there then it should be a person that can climb well and see well enough to notice if a ship or something else is coming. Other then that we should place someone at each side of the ship or at the least near the weapons."

Elwyn "I´m not much of a climber myself, perhaps I can patrol this side of the ship, starboard I think it is called. If we by any chance sail into trouble I can help out with that piece of machinery if needed..." Elwyn points to the mangonel on the main deck "...but perhaps Cormac should be there to operate it properly. My elven ancestry gifted me with some keen eyesight at least, I wouldn´t mind some comapany while patrolling though." Elwyn says and readies himself for a long vigil on the slowly rocking ship.
"If we be wantin to use the weapons in the way they're meant to then it would help if to work in groups of at least two. Ballista is easy so one could manage but the other would take to long ta use alone." Cormac explains even as he nods and moves to make his way over to check on the magonel, not wanting it to fail them if they needed to fire it.

(( @DM: This phrase confuses me: "You find yourselves all preparing for your first night's watch, settling down for breakfast after all the crew have finished their evening meal."...are we in the dark, or the day time? If Dark, then people with darkvision should be aiming and/or watching on deck ))

((So you've rested through the day as best you can, then once the crew had finished their evening meal you are having "breakfast"...I called it breakfast as you'd all been 'sleeping'. So... you are in the dark and the watch is through the night whilst a reduced crew operate and the rest sleep.))
"I don't mind being on the bolt thrower or the rock thrower, though am probably more suited for the rocks" CC says honestly, there is a bit of nervous excitement willing behind his eyes
Ben looks uneasy. The thought of handling strange machinery while trying to keep the contents of his stomach in his stomach is a little too much. "I will patrol the deck. We may also want to allow for rests... Not everyone needs to be active on deck all the time. Can the weapons can be pre-loaded? The chance to sit and regather ones energies is often welcome."
As you head out onto deck the darkness of night takes you by surprise, no moon and cloud cover blocking the stars has rendered the night an overwhelming black pool of nothingness. Thankfully the evening wind is warm. The deck of the ship itself is lit up with periodic lanterns that the crew tend to regularly. The vessel creaks and groans as it makes it way over the unseen swell, and you begin to subconsciously fit into the rhythm of the sea.
The first mate passes the wheel to another crew member and walks over to the group. At 6'4 he's tall for a human male, and broad with it too, but despite his size you can tell by the way he carries himself he is a sailor and not a fighter. "You'll be the help Bos mentioned. My names Teves, first mate." He takes the time to shake each of your hands. "Position yourselves where you like, but stay outta the way of crew if you can. There's space for one up the nest, if you like. But only one. The siege weapons are about brute force as much as anything else, you'd do well to do any damage to them, but don't leave 'em loaded, they don't like it. To be honest... with it this dark something will be upon us before we can use them, 'specially the mangonel, so much power wrapped up it it struggles to hit something closer that about 50 feet." He starts heading back to the wheel.
"Holler at the top of your lungs if you see anything you don't like, otherwise no shouting, sound carries out here.....oh and if you need to...be sick over the side would ya."
((Let me know where about you are and when ready to start the watch proper))
Yamdum rises saying, "Just in time to get going. It's all well to know what our next adventure might be, but I find it useful to finish the one at hand first."
((Assuming the Captain has one of her officers taking the helm on the forecastle?))
He sighs and nods to Cormac. "Right, guess we be given guidance till they get their sea legs."
"Those of you still not feeling well, would be best toward the aft on the quarterdeck. The breeze can be a balm there and the movement 'tis not as rough. Also would be good to have elf eyes there to keep watch far off. Might i suggest Master Ben and Mister Wordsmith there? Those with poor night vision best stay on the main deck, which will be lit with lanterns. You can keep an eye for unwanted boarders, though t'would be hard to board a ship that is underway. Unless it be by sea folk, and then we won't see them till they board.. Cormac you and CC on the Mangonel. Master Ned, I could use you in the forecastle with the ballista. It's a bit rougher sailing in the fore, but I imagine a stout halfling as yourself should have no problem. And I guess I'll be heading to the nest"
((SOrry editing because I did not see the post about a crows nest as I did not see it on the drawing))
CC will be nestled mid ship where the motion is the most manageable, keeping a hand on the main mast to help center himself he'll start pulling on his armor and weapons
Elwyn As Elwyn notices CC donning his armor he says in a worried tone. "Are you sure you want that on CC, I heard something about sinking as a stone when I boarded the ship."
(OOC: Is there a climb check for getting up in the crows nest? Exhaustion level 1 gives disadvantage on skills right?)
((Yeah exhaustion will impact ability checks... Good question - happy for no check to get up to the nest. Maybe if the sea get's stormy we would, but otherwise happy to shimmy up and down as needed!))
Seeing that the others have taken up positions, Cormac will make his way towards the ballista once he finishes his check of the mangonel. After a cursory glance he nods to himself and will take position near enough toward it that he can easily reach it if needed. His own crossbow will be comfortably resting in his hands, the bolt still ready to fire.

Ned will post up on deck near the hatch into the rest of the ship, standing guard for the night watch.
