You all have your own reasons that brought you to the Silver Linings Tavern and Inn this late summer evening. Traveling along the Alabaster Trail to or from Whitestone, you've found respite here. Some of you are familiar with your surroundings as well as each other while others among you are not. You've settled in after being warmly greeted by a rose cheeked halfling woman in well-made clothes who took your order and served you within minutes. The tavern itself is decorated like a cozy home. It has a hearth with glowing embers keeping the approaching autumn evening chill away and several paintings on the walls of halflings in various modes of work as well as sweeping landscapes of the Alabaster Sierras. You all proceed to spend the bulk of the evening watching the folks who have wandered in and out of the tavern's double oak doors from the trail outside or catching up with old friends. The tavern is run by a mix of halflings and humans. You've noticed one another in the party too as well as other lingering patrons as the evening winds down. Your surroundings comfort you and by late evening as your eyes begin to droop and your tankard is emptied the tavern has nearly emptied but for you five and what remains of the staff. As you stretch in your seat contemplating retiring upstairs to either a cheap communal area to sleep or your own room, suddenly the oak double doors burst open! A bleeding woman then enters dragging a similarly bloodied man into the tavern with her before both collapse into a heap on the floor!
"Help...help us," the human woman gasps from exhaustion as she reaches up towards anyone who will approach.
The elderly human man wiping and bussing tables around you looks to the elderly halfling woman behind the bar. They then both look to you for aid...

Creed immediately drops his book to the table and moves to help them before stopping, reaching back and shoving the book into his bag. He gets on his knees beside the pair. "What happened? The more you tell me the better I can help." He says as he begins checking them for the source of the blood.

There's been a little pink tiefling girl sitting at a table off to the side of the tavern. Her boots are kicked up on the table now, her lute in her lap as she plucks lazily at it. But as the doors slam open, she tips back in her seat, nearly falling backwards and just barely managing to catch herself. "Holy hells!"
Love manages to save her lute from getting damaged and bounces back to her feet. But now her curiosity's been piqued, and she's gotta go assess the situation. She blinks a few times before scurrying over to the ruckus. She keeps back a few steps, peering over at the bleeding couple. "Oh, yikes, that looks really bad."
"The...the bear...we...the bear...," the woman says before passing out like her companion.
To Creed's studied eye the pair look like they've been mauled by a bear! The bleeding comes from several slashes on their arms as if held up in defense and on their torsos from great raking claws!
OOC: Anyone can make any skill check they'd like!
"Bears," the elderly halfling woman behind the bar, Lillian knows is famed retired adventurer Velma Stoutheart, grumbles with a snort. "They must have made trouble with them," she adds curiously cold as she continues to clean the bar.
The elderly human man, Velma's partner and fellow retired adventurer Seth Gottwall, approaches Creed and Love near the two mauled strangers.
"Curious the bears would leave the river," Seth says stroking a short gray beard with his clockwork hand, a prosthetic limb widely known being produced by Lord De Rollo.

Corrin startles at the sudden commotion from the common room, she looks to Lillian, to whom she was conversing about a recent novel she had read about knights, wizards and dragons. "I am very glad that I decided to rent a room instead of sleeping in the forest. That could have been me. We should see if we can help in anyway."
Corrin will carefully climb down the stool at the bar, and rush over to the couple and the other patrons.
"Did you have to travel far in this condition?" she asks, trying to gauge an approximate location of the attack.
(Also does there appear to be anything magical about this attack? Arcana 24 )
As the others join Creed places a hand on the couple and says a short prayer, letting magic flow from him into them. Spare the Dying"Knowing Mentor, protect these souls so that their knowledge might be used to spare others from the same fate."

Creed stabilizes the two strangers but they remain unconious and unable to answer questions.
Corrin analyzes the two strangers for the arcane but observes nothing arcane about their injures. These common people right down to their gear are all common items as well. They look honestly like rough travelers from their clothing down to their worn boots.
"Howarth," Velma calls from the bar. "Looks like a job for Pale Gaurd eh," the older halfing woman calls with a sigh. "It'll take hours in the dark to reach Whitestone," she then cautions.

Amihan leaps from her table to help aid the couple in need. Her eyes widen as she sees a tiefling in the robes of the Cobalt Soul reach the wounded first, it was a bit of a surprise and shock to see another member of the order here. She pushes those thoughts out of her mind for now, focused on helping to aid the injured while listening to their story.
She addresses the others gathered around. “Bears? They are lucky to be alive. Are bear attacks common in this area? Are others in danger?" It doesn’t seem right, unless this couple provoked them. She thinks back to her research to try to recall what she knew of bears and what may have prompted them to attack.
Nature 2
She turns to the tiefling cleric that stabilized the couple "It is a pleasant surprise to see a member of the order here. I am Amihan, a recent initiate of the order myself."She bows her head slightly as she introduces herself.
Creed finishes the prayer and makes sure that the two are stabilized before wiping his hands on his robes and standing, turning to the genasi. "Yes, I had not expected to meet another out this far from the archives. I am Archivist Creed, of the Valley Archive in Zadash. And you?"

Allowing the members of the cobalt soul to discuss the case, Corrin slinks back to were Lillian is sitting at the bar, "Aren't you of the Pale Guard? Do you still hold rank enough to investigate this? I would hate for anyone else to get in trouble with these bears. A healer may not be as readily available for the next attack."

Do you still hold rank enough to investigate this? I would hate for anyone else to get in trouble with these bears. A healer may not be as readily available for the next attack."
Lillian nodded to Corrin, " Permanent leave of absence but lets go have a nosey outside."
" Theres only one bear we both know in Whitestone...I woudn't have thought any others would be brave enough to challenge his territory."
She gave the two injured folk a glance as she passed them, " And if it is him then these two have brought it upon themselves through some mischief....still, better safe than sorry."
Assuming Corrin was following she exited the building blade drawn and looked out into the night.

Black eyes wide, Love looks down at the two injured folks again. "A bear? There are..." She bounces a little, biting down on her lip to hide a growing grin. "There are bears around. Attacking people."
When she sees the armed woman leaving, she perks up a bit more. After all, she's never seen a bear before, and this woman looks like she can take care of herself. So Love quickly darts after her, her skirts giving a little swish with her speed. "Hold up! I'm coming, too!"
Corrin is following Lillian taking 2 steps for each of hers. 'What's better hands-on experience then charging into the night after a bear.' She thinks to herself.
Once outside the tavern the party doesn't immediately notice a trail but there are new travelers moving slowly up the road leading a horse that's pulling a cart. The hooded figures stop short as the party assembles outside searching for signs of the bear!
"The...tavern have rooms," a male voice calls out from under the hood towards the party.

Amihan gives a gentle bow of her head “I am Amihan, although my friends call me Ami. I have visited Zadash briefly, but received my training in Rexxentrum. I am a monk initiate”she says proudly “starting my journey to seek knowledge by visiting the Ziggurat in Whitestone”
She pauses and looks as the others start to leave the tavern “We should go with them, I want to learn more about this bear and what may have caused it to attack”
She retreats to her table briefly to grab her pack and a sturdy Ironwood staff and follows the others out of the tavern “Wait, I would like to join you!”
Outside, she pauses and eyes the hooded figure with interest "You will have to ask the tavern. I can not speak to whether or not they have rooms available. Where are you hailing from strangers? There are reports of a bear attack in the area, have you seen anything?"
Creed simply follows the initiate now that she has identified herself. "I guess I best come along to make sure that no one injures themselves to badly in this endeavor. Not what I had planned but the Mentor seems to always have other plans."

Lillian turns around noting that she seems to have an entourage, her eyes narrow as the wagon approaches and she tries to peer under the hoods to get an idea of who they may be.
" Those two inside couldn't have come too far with those injuries.....", she mumbled out loud to herself.
She paid vague attention to the bluish woman with the wispy hair but didn't recognise any of the locations she mentioned.....probably should have paid more attention in geography...
She moved to the edge of the road and crouched down looking for tracks....either the couples or their attacker....
The collective view of the strangers on the road is obscured by their hoods and the nearly moonless sky. Their hoods remain up and with an even tone, the man speaking is hard to read.
"Bears," the man speaking exclaims as the others look at each other. "No, no we haven't noticed bears on the road," he adds shaking his hooded head. "We've been on the Trail from Westrunn for nearly a week," the stranger continues, "headed to Whitestone," they add continuing to move towards the inn without stopping.
Lillian luoks at the road and doesn't only find one set of tracks but hundreds from the traffic on the road that day with worn cart tracks and hoof prints. Nothing that would suggest the bloodied figures came from the road.

Lillian sighed, " Someone grab some extra lanterns, lets do a perimeter walk and see if we can see where those two came from. I suspect if we ask them we'll get something useful like ' the woods'."
She walked out to the tree line and started following it to the left checking carefully for broken underbrush and the like.....her eyes kept drifting back to the wagon, the hairs on the back of her neck standing on end, but she ignored it and got to work.
