Vorser, as you channel your senses, nothing seems to draw your attention. You do not feel like there is any undead or the like in your immediate area. You do feel however, the eerie feeling that lingers in the air.
Ignatia had been uncharacteristically quiet during the journey through the fog, " It is a destination.....thats for sure."
She takes Vorsers offer of assitance and dismounts as the cart moves off.
" Theres no 'feels like' about it, we are no longer where we were in more ways than one......I'm tempted to catch that driver up and give him a word or two about kidnapping under false pretences....but, ", she looked around with trepidation. " I think I'd much rather be behind walls right this moment.....this place stinks of horrible bloody death......does it not?"
She strides up to the gates and pushes against it with both hands....
As you all begin to head toward the gates, you hear the sound of the cart pulling away. If anyone looks behind to watch, you see the cart disappear into the fog and the sound that followed it quickly vanishes. As you reach the gates, they slowly swing up, without assistance, to allow you all passage. As you look past the gates, you see much of the same. A muddy rode straddled by towering trees, whose tops are lost in heavy gray mist, blocking out all but a death-gray light. The tree trunks are unnaturally close to one another, and the woods have the silence of a forgotten grave, yet exude the feeling of an unvoiced scream.
"Woods are nasty with wolves this time of year, and yet he abandons us in the middle of the woods." Vorser grumbles to nobody in particular as the wagon disappears into the fog. "Looks like we have a bit of a trek ahead of us."
Falling in behind the others he looks to the sky to try and get a position on the sun, and how long before sun down, but the mists make this a difficult task.
"By the looks of this land, this whole place might be a bit of a danger" He scans the area to see if there is anything that catches his eye (perception 13)
Keeping up with the others, they enter through the gates "Wonder who these sorry lads were" he says as he passes by the fallen heads of the statues (stonecunning 22)
He picks up his pace so as not to be left outside in the dark "Best we hurry to make our way indoors"
You all slowly make your way past the giant gates, and as the last one passes, the gates slowly shut behind you, almost silently. After the gates shut, the fog can be seen approaching the gates, but stopping just short of passing through them.
Durant;
Your focus on the stonework and statues draws your other senses away from what they might pickup. As you eye down the giant, headless defenders, despite your deep knowledge of stonework, you don't believe these might of been of anyone significant. They appear to just be large scale version of human fighters, but, even though these don't appear to be of anyone significant, you do get the feeling that whoever rules these lands takes, or at least took security, very seriously.
Janek;
As you make your way past the gate, a strong breeze hits you from ahead of you, but you get more than just a sense of cool air, you get a hint of death. The odor of decay is a hard one to miss, and as you focus on it, you get a feeling that it's quite a bit ahead of you. Definitely out of sight at the current moment.
You all begin to cautiously make your way South-West down the road, the occasional cawing crow, and low flying bat pull your attention from the road ahead. After about 10 to 12 minutes of walking, the smell that Janek had pointed out before becomes much much stronger, and soon you see a stray path split off to the left ((Technically South-East)). The scent you all smell now, seems to be coming from down the stray path.
With Janeks warnings and the sudden stench of death, Vorser checks over his equipment ensuring that all straps are tight and secure before donning his helm and quickly surveying the stray path for any activity.
"Ugh, what in the devil is that stench?" he looks around as if he just passed by it. "You think there is something dead down that way?" pointing down the stray path his nose brought him to. He spits on the ground as the scent sours his mouth. Suddenly serious, he realizes it could be of some danger as he sees Vorser tightening his gear. He pull out his hammer and holy symbol, a necklace with the two hands together wrapped in red rope.
"Already found trouble and we're not even met these folks yet." he mumbles to himself while trying to see if he can locate the source of the smell. (Perception 18)
Janek comes to a stop, looking down the split off path. He looks to Ignatia and then the others. "Seems like something to avoid." He waits to see what they wish to do.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
((wasn't planning on going down either, just being cautious))
"I agree, there is no need for us to head off into the wilderness just yet, lets find the town first. I will take up the rear lest whatever foul beast which caused this stench thinks we are suitable prey."
Vorser continues to scan the stray path for any signs of movement until the party moves on.
Over the next 30 minutes or so, you make your way down the path, eventually breaking away from the hall of trees and entering what looks like a very large clearing. From what is revealed within the fog that blocks your far distant view, bare dead trees are scattered all over this hilly area. As you make your way through the last 1/4 mile, you finally come to a town, one that looks inviting in this very dreary area. The muddy road turns to gravel, and this gravel road leads you to the village, its tall houses dark as tombstones. Nestled among these solemn dwellings are a handful of closed-up shops. Even the tavern is shut tight.
A soft whimpering draws your eye toward a pair of children standing in the middle of an otherwise lifeless street.

Janek nods, moving along to follow the others. He keeps a wary eye out, especially on the surrounding trees. (Perception: 23)

"Smells like death and decay ahead. Best take care." Janek says as he proceeded away from the gates.
