"This must be the place, eh? A bit away from the entrance if I must say" Durant says in a gruff voice while observing the village. Having since relaxed as we moved past the sickly scent earlier, he has holstered his weapon.
Seeing the children in the street and no one else around, he is immediately concerned for them. He approaches gently, "Oh dear. You two alright? here, here. make sure you share that now." He puts some of the bread he purchased earlier into their hands and looks them over for injuries (Medicine 10)
The little girl shushes the boy as you all approach, and as Durant goes to put some bread in their hands. They take a couple steps back. "We do not need bread mister, but we do need help..." The girl holds back a tear. "There’s a monster in our house!” She then points to a tall brick row house that has seen better days. Its windows are dark. It has a gated portico on the ground floor, and the rusty gate is slightly ajar. The houses on either side are abandoned, their windows and doors boarded up. "Could you please kill the monster mister!"
Never having lost the sense of foreboding brought on by that deathly stray path, Vorser keeps his hand on his weapon at all times. With the party at a stop once more, he begins to walk a slow, wide perimeter around Durant and Janek, looking for any other signs of the townsfolk.
Hearing the little utter the word monster, Vorser returns to the side of his companions. “Tell us of this monster, what to do you know of it?”.
((Perception: 7))
((can I also check to see how long we have left until sundown Survival?: 4))
You don't seem to see any other townsfolk, and with the distraction of the kids. It's hard to tell if you can hear anyone else in the town. As you glance up at the very cloudy sky, you see what could be a moon, almost near it's highest point. However, this doesn't make sense to you as you left just after sunrise. At this moment, you are unsure of the time as this change has thrown off your internal clock.
Hearing the girl's request, Janek says to her, "We can at least take a look." He glances at his companions, almost daring them to tell this child otherwise.
"Can you tell us more about this monster?" he asks the girl.
The little girl grabs the little boys hand tightly, looking to the boy then to the group.
"We've never seen it. We've only heard it howl. It's so scary! Luckily our parents were able to lock it in the basement before it got our baby brother."
Looking to Vorser, then the rest of the group "By all that is holy, that's awful. We must do something...Are you parents inside still?"
Durant was mildly suspicious, but is always one to help those who ask for it. He starts for the home and listens for anything out of the ordinary. (Perception 13)
He waits just outside to see if the others are to join him. "We can't let this stand. If there are monsters about, it's our duty to evict them from this realm."
“Children, do you have somewhere you can be safe and hidden? This monster may escape the confines of your home and we do not want to put your lives in danger.”
Vorser takes stance at the door, awaiting the signal from Durant to enter.
Ignatia came forward as the children ran off, she'd never liked children....sticky fingers and little appreciation for hard fought knowledge....
" Isn't it the parents responsibilty to care for their offspring? I mean, really? Bring the infant outside and set the entire house on fire would be what I would do....once important materials have been evacuated of course."
She fixed the others with a look, " You all want to go in there? No one else wants to just find a semi-secure room and wait there until morning?""
" No....ok....fine....", she sighs deeply. " Alright....lets go into this horribly creepy looking house with essentially no information on the word of two of the most disreputable children I have ever witnessed."
Shoulders slumped she headed towards the house lighting her lantern....
Janek just looks at Ignatia, listening to her until at last she seems resigned to enter. Seeing Durant's nod to Vorser, he too is prepared to follow right after.
With the party at his side, Vorser slowly opens the front door scanning the room as he enters looking for the basement door and attunes his senses to detect any evil presence.
((Perception: 7, will also use another Divine Sense charge))
Your Divine Sense does not sense any Celestial, Fiend or Undead creatures.
Everyone;
The NSEW of the house is as follows. (Please keep this in mind when things are described)
A wrought-iron gate with hinges on one side and a lock on the other fills the archway of a stone portico. The gate is unlocked, and its rusty hinges shriek when the gate is opened. Oil lamps hang from the portico ceiling by chains, flanking a set of oaken doors that open into a grand foyer.
Hanging on the south wall (To your right after entering) of the foyer is a shield emblazoned with a coat-of-arms (a stylized golden windmill on a red field), flanked by framed portraits of stony-faced aristocrats. Mahogany-framed double doors leading from the foyer to the next room are set with panes of stained glass.
As the last person enters the foyer, the doors close behind you.
"Well that doesn't bode well" he whispers as the door closed by itself behind him. He sticks close to the group and listens for any noise coming from the 2nd floor (Perception 17)
"Ignatia, I know you're not a fan of diving into obvious trouble. The good news is, through these trials we will purge any ill tempered souls that may have lured us here. Better to take care of it now lest whatever this is cause more trouble to this poor place" He whispers as he sidled up to her side, trying to assure her that working together will bring success.
(if the room is dark, Durant would cast Light on his holy symbol to be able to look around better and tuck it away to block the light as needed)
As you listen closely, you dont seem to hear any noises coming from the second floor. Flickering lanterns light the hall, so no light is needed currently. If you'd like to cast light anyways, you're more than welcome to. However, after entering the main hall, as you glance around, you notice on the walls, on top of the vines, flowers, saturs and nymphs, are also serpents and skulls inconspicuously woven into the designs.
Everyone;
As you all make your way into the next room you see a wide hall which runs the width of the house, with a black marble fireplace at one end and a sweeping, red marble staircase at the other. Mounted on the wall above the fireplace is a longsword. The wood-paneled walls are ornately sculpted with images of vines, flowers, nymphs, and satyrs. The decorative paneling follows the staircase as it circles upward to the second floor. ((This is the Main Hall for OOC reference.))

"what are you doing out here all by yourselves?"

Janek steps toward the children as well, listening as Durant speaks with them. He offers no words, stopping a couple of paces back and just watching.

Before you head off to the house, the little girl replies. "Yes, they are on the 2nd floor. They didn't want to leave our baby brother."

Durant, Janek;
Neither of you see or hear anything coming from the house.

Pulling out his Warhammer and shield, he nods to Vorser, planning to follow closely behind. "Let's save a baby" he says in a serious tone.
He look over at Janek and Ignatia "I've got you covered, fear not. Ilmater stands with us" he taps the emblem on his chest with his hammer.
Sweat starts to build on his brow, worried about the child inside. Not another one, not today, not while I stand
