The circular room reveals nothing of its purpose, leaving you to guess why it was ever created. Studying the primitive exit in the southeastern part of the room, you come to the conclusion that any sort of descent will be moderately difficult without some teamwork and some rope. Friar's light isn't bright enough to reveal much. Wherever this downward climb might lead you cannot see.
(@DM safe to assume that their darkvision doesn't reveal anything else down the tunnel either?)
Copper quickly fishes a coil of rope out of his pack and walks over to the opening to the descending tunnel. He peers down it for a moment, then takes a torch from his pack, lights it and tosses it as far as he can down the tunnel. Then he pulls out his climber's kit and gets to work.
"Friar, if you anchor me, and Douth and Kalthra assist you," Copper begins, "I'll go down first and if there are tricky spots I'll add additional anchors with these pitons."
He slips on metal boot tips, special gloves and a harness and ties it to the rope. He adds additionally anchoring to the rope up top.
"Then no one will fall as long as they hold on to the rope on their way down."
If the others agree, Copper will head down the tunnel.

(Correct, Thoradin. Darkvision is of no help here).

Copper's torch strikes a stone outcropping after falling for approximately 25', causing a momentary shower of sparks. The torch ricochets out of the line of sight, but the four of you can hear it tumble downward for a few more seconds before it comes to a stop somewhere below. Somehow, the torch remains lit and you can see the flickering yellow light far below, maybe 80' or so.

"We're going to need more rope," Copper says as he stands by Friar looking down the tunnel. "Pass me another coil of it and I can start using it once this one runs out."
Copper then begins using the climbing kit and the help of the others to start down, anchoring pitons as he does.
The rope alleviates any concerns that you may have had about descending into the darkness. After Copper descends two-thirds of the distance, he glances down and sees the outline of a humanoid lying prone upon the floor. The light provided by Douth allows Copper to take in a few more details: this is another duergar lying in a pool of blood.
"Another one of the duergar's is lying down here at the bottom," Copper calls back up. "Lying a bit awkwardly. Would guess he's seen better days."
Copper continues down to the bottom and surveys the surroundings quickly for danger and checks to see if the duergar's alive or dead before calling back up to the others.
If he doesn't see any immediate threat he'll call up to let the others know to come down, and he'll steady the rope for them.

(Once everyone is down the rope)
"What's everyone doing down there?" The three adventurers look up and see Arvia Ruby-Eye looking down on them. They all do a collective groan. What is she doing here and how did she find us? "This area is so cool! Well, other than the dead bodies, how tragic. Did you all know this tunnel area existed? I mean I had been to the crypts before, but had NO idea this was below! How fascinating!"
and she rambles on "so I ran into Kalthra out in the clearing near the mountain, man she had been hurt pretty bad. She told me to tell you all that she was heading back and that I could take her place. I'm sure you're all alright with that!" And she nimbly takes the rope and appears to basically hop down the 80+ feet to join the rest of you.

Copper raises an eyebrow at Arvia. His being part of the clan watch and her having somewhat sticky fingers has led to them crossing paths on multiple occasions.
"You'll be behaving yourself, won't you?" Copper asks Arvia. "Keeping on the straight and narrow like and keeping those hands in your own pockets, correct?"
He then kneels down by the dead duergar and does a quick search of his pockets, looking for anything that might let them know what's going on.
"So far it looks like the funeral procession was ambushed in the crypt by a band of duergars, and this one was fleeing the seen but did a header down the shaft there and broke his neck."
Copper looks around for a moment.
"But I can't help thinking that this isn't adding up. Nothing was taken. They left their own dead behind. No demands. Just senseless," Copper says. "The gray dwarves stir up trouble but usually for a reason."
Grateful for the aid of the rope, the four of you now stand in a large, open cavern. The ceiling of this place is by no means level; therefore, in some portions of the room the ceiling is fifty or sixty feet above you. In other places it less than ten feet overhead. The place is exceedingly quiet, dark, and damp. Nearby are a few pools of murky water. Despite having Friar's light and your own darkvision, you cannot see the full extent of this cavern.
Map (the white star indicates your current location; please be specific about the group's direction and route of travel):
Ruby does a little bow to Friar’s clapping, obviously appreciating the gesture.
To Copper, “Oh come now Copper! Is that anyway to great a friend? I’m not promising anything, but I said I was here to help, and that’s what I plan on doing.”
She takes in her surroundings.. “Whoa, this place just get crazier by the minute. What would you elders like to do? And ol’ Cop here knows how sneaky I can be, so let me know if you’d ever like me to scout ahead. In the meantime, I’ll follow y’all’s lead.”
There's no indication of a path anywhere near where the group is currently standing. The floor of this place is composed entirely of rock; so, any signs of foot traffic will be extremely hard to detect.
Copper stands back up and looks around the cavern.
"Now if I was an underdwarf sneaking about and up to no good, where would I go?" Copper asks. "That way looks as good as any to me."
He points off, and (unless anyone has any better ideas) heads southeast (safe to use those directions?) to the rock outcropping that looks like a pointing finger (east 3, south 6). Once there, he looks around again to see if there's anything about.

The duergar is dead, and Copper surmises he has been for some time.

Copper laughs at Ruby.
"This face may not be pretty but I'm far from an elder," Copper says. "My parents and grandparents might have words to say on that."
He kneels down on the ground again as he talks.
"If this duergar wasn't left here on purpose, he was headed somewhere."
He looks at the ground to see if there's anything resembling a trail - smoother rock and the like.
