The line begins to move and many of the students rush out with parchment in hand making comments about "clues".
As you move your way into the Biblioplex you are ushered into the Hall of Oracles just as your acceptance letter stated.
This hallowed hall is filled with statues of the university’s past Oracles. At the center of the hall, a pulsing ball of magical energy—the Strixhaven Snarl—fills the area with bright light.
An almost sacrosanct sense of calm descends as you step into the Hall of Oracles. “Brilliant scholars,” says a rich, soothing voice radiating from the hall’s central snarl of glowing energy. “Your attention, please.
“As you are now Strixhaven University students, this storied Biblioplex will be your second home for research, studies, and even leisure. There is just one task to accomplish before you officially embark on your academic journey—a scavenger hunt!”
A small parchment appears in each of your hands.
“The rules are simple,” the voice says. “Each clue on this list will lead you to a different location in the Biblioplex. Simply travel to the area each clue references and perform the action the clue suggests. Time is of the essence. You have only until the end of the day to finish your hunt.
“Solve as many clues as you can, because at each location, you may win a prize! Now then, off you go!”
One side of the parchment is the clues:
Clue 1. You’ll forget all about any trouble or plight when you step forward and are ensnarled in light.
Clue 2. Alumni commission works when they retire, seeking promising mages to inspire.
Clue 3. Each group deserves a free treat for their investment. Serve up this list and enjoy your refreshment.
Clue 4. These leafy beds aren’t always what they seem. Give them a pat and see what you glean.
Clue 5. Some stars are ancient, enduring, and bright. But others—maybe you!—are born on opening night.
Mayala looks with wonder at the bright ball of light in the center of the Hall of Oracles. "Oh, a snarl! I've read all about them - there was a book by Professor Hesxis Lebblepobble called Computational Analysis of Snarls and other Mana Phenomena. It was fascinating." She goes on to watch the pulsing ball for a minute or two before it really dawns on her that she has a parchment in her hands.
She glances over to Kashi and Finneas. "Should we team up on this? Or are we supposed to do these on our own?" She gives a quick glance around at what other students seem to be doing, then reads over the first clue again, mumbling it in part to herself. "Step forward and ensnarled in light. Ensnarled? Hmm... that's an odd word." She looks again at the snarl, shrugs, and takes one step forward.
"We should team up beyond a doubt May. I think researchers do it all the time, and three heads will be better then one." Kashi responds to Mayala' s question. Seeing her stepping forward he does as well, figuring the first clue is obviously the Snarl in the center of the chamber.
As he steps forward Kashi thinking to himself, professor Hesxis, hmm think I read a book by a professor Herlex about the the three hundred point seven true shades of yellow, damn I need to catch up on my reading to keep up with these two.
Stumbling through her teleportation, a young human looks around her new university. Dressed in a rolled up flannel shirt, short black shorts, and a large witch's hat, Erutan glances around and realizes she is running late. She hurries towards the Biblioplex, stopping shortly to buy some books on potions. As she sprints into the Biblioplex's Hall of the Oracles, she runs straight into Mayala. Falling over, Erutan looks up and says, "Um... hi.... I'm a new Witherbloom student studying potions. Um.... have I missed anything? I kinda forgot that today was orientation and nearly missed my letter." She picks her hat back up and glances around nervously.
Mayala is a bit surprised and immediately reacts. She spins, almost looking ready to attack, though her sword remains in its scabbard. Seeing the person fallen over, she reaches down, "Oh no! Are you alright?" She offers her a hand to help her get up.
Once Erutan is up, Mayala says, "I'm not sure if you will get a paper arriving late." She kind of glances over at the bright shining snarl at the center of the room. "Well, we can share this page - it's a scavanger hunt! We think the first one is this snarl here." She hands over her parchment then looks at the Owlin and Harengon standing nearby. She motions towards the one and then the other, "Finnegan and Kashi. We're teaming up to try to figure this one out. You should join us."
All of her words have been very matter of fact, her actions generous but her tone fairly even. Finally pausing for a moment after the collision, she then says, "I almost forgot. I am Mayala Notogoro. I'm hoping to join Quandrix college."
Finneas says to Mayala, "That's a great idea." in a tone that would sound more appropriate with a great discovery. "I'm Finneas Jetter and I'll be going to Witherbloom. Let's catch up with the rest and win this scavenger hunt."
When Mayala turns abruptly Kashi spins on his heels. His ears each fold in the middle at ninty degrees, looking like small, soft horns, his alert ear posture. Seeing what is going on he he quickly relaxs.
"Yeah join us, four heads are better then three unless your sharing a pumpkin pie." As he talks his ears go straight up and down, then to the left ear droops in half. "Oh and yeah manners, I'm Kashi, nice to meet you Eru!" He holds out his hand. His white fured hand, like the rest of him, is dyed in multiple patterns and colors, that appear to be both accidental and purposeful.
Erutan glances at the paper and says, "Well then do we go down and touch the snarl?" She stands up and thanks Mayala. Adjusting her hat she glances around at the other students in a curious manner.
"I thought maybe if we just step forward so we're in the light of the snarl?" Mayala says. "But yea, maybe you're right and we have to touch it." She takes a couple steps closer, trying to get a closer look at it. "Can we even reach it? And it seems like maybe a lot of mana energy."
Kashi looks at his hand, nope no paint on it. hmm maybe they don't shake hands where she is from. Oh well he decides.
Ears facing forward he hurries to catch up to Mayala. "I think your right, we should touch it." In his head he takes a mental picture, he will need to paint the image of Mayala reaching into the Snarl.
Mayala is right there behind Finneas, ready to reach out herself. But she hesitates at the last moment as he moves. Yes, waiting to see what happens to him first.
"Good question. The line's moving, but not fast enough" Finneas says with a gleam of excitement in his eye.
