"What a clever usage! I hadn't read about any craftsman making use of the incantation before, but I think the overlap between spell-capable individuals and master artisans is a relatively unexplored area of arcane knowledge. It would certainly make for a fascinating dissertation." Aithne's fingertips were already itching to find a quill and ink and take notes.
The fact that Ambre hadn't chosen a school of specialization was something of a shock to Aithne. She'd been certain of her desire to attend Lorehold since displaying her first glimmer of magical talent. While her aasimar heritage provided her some basic magical skill, her parents had often said that Aithne's talent for sorcery was the direct result of the girl's unquenchable thirst to understand and manipulate spellcraft.
"Will you be taking general classes until you decide on a preferred course of study?"
"So it's not too late for the Silverquill to claim another a-student then." Aelyn says with a smile an a nod. "I'm sure any college would be proud to have you Ambre."
"Well originally I wasnt going to come here," Ambre explains, "but then my dad started taking about his own experiences here and I got really excited. I really like working with my hands so I'm looking forward to classes at Prismini when the time comes." She starts rifling through her bag again. "One second I might have that book on me. I was kinda just throwing stuff into my bag this morning."
"Your father is an alumni?" Aithne smiled. "How fortuitous! You're quite lucky to have the benefit of his experience. I'm the first of my family to attend Strixhaven so everything is quite new."
"Really?" Her interest is immediately apparent, her gaze lighting with excitement. New books were always a reason for celebration. "I would love to borrow it, if you'd allow. If we share any classes, I'd be happy to return it then. Or perhaps to the dormitories..."
Aithne was already rearranging her hold on the books currently in her possession, somehow managing to find a sliver of space into which a new volume could be placed.
She pulls out a piece of paper instead of the book, and skims the page. "Let's see, this year I'm taking Arcano-botany for Beginners, Basic Magical Auras, Beginning Computational Magic, Beginning Inkomancy History of Magic and Art, Introduction to Archaeomancy, and Magical Physiologies."
She folds the paper in half and puts it in her pocket. She digs around a bit longer, "Um... I know I packed it. How about I bring it to your room later?"
"That's... nearly every single class available for first years to take. Are you certain you'll be able to handle that, Miss Rotz? I don't mean to sound like I doubt you at all, it's just... Well, it's only your first year, my dear. You shouldn't push yourself so hard, you could burn out."
Aelyn paled considerably as Ambre mentioned all the classes she was taking, and it dawned upon him now how many hours he would spend in that Biblioplex, reading, and reading, and reading. Luckily for him, from what he had heard, the Silverquills also valued the art of oratory, rhetoric, and dramatic performance, areas of study which would come natural to him he felt. "I'm so impressed with your apparent studiousness but I hope you will find the time for some extracurriculat activities as well?"He says, trying to reenter the conversation.
"To answer your earlier question about dormitories, Mister Silversong, as first years you will all be staying in dorms here on the Central Campus as you complete your first year of general studies. Once one advances to their second year and picks their college of choice, more often than not they relocate to their respective college campus' dorm, though it is not entirely uncommon for some to continue living here in the Central Campus."

"Well as much as I would likely feel at home within the the Silverquill college campus dorm I would certainly miss fraternizing with the students from the other colleges." Aelyn says, glancing over at the others in the group.
"Itll be fine," Ambre says. "I mean, I wouldnt want to miss out on something during this foundational year. I mean, who knows what'll happen. Plus I love being busy."
"I haven't moved in myself," Avrol says, responding to Aelyn's comment. "I just got to the campus today too. But yea, you don't actually pick a college until after your first year," he adds, echoing Professor Sharpbeak.
He then smiles as Aithne mentions Lorehold. "Once we do get to choose a college, I am definitely joining Lorehold. I just love history! My father taught history - although he didn't have any magic abilities. But that's why I'm here at Strixhaven, to put history together with the magic. I can't wait to learn from the Dustspeakers and Tomewielders. It should be great!"
As he hears of Ambre's plan to just take all of the classes he just shakes his head. Avrol turns his attention back to Aithne. "That list of books sounds very interesting. Quite an eclectic collection. I've always focused on history. But I find that history always seems to lead into connections with just about every subject. But specializing in spellcrafting sounds intriguing. It does seem like many spells could be tweaked just a bit to make them more practical. A worthy area to pursue!"
Arvol takes a look at Aelyn considering the offer. "Well, if we need to bunk up two to a room I think that would be good. Sounds like a plan!" He then adds, "I don't think I caught what classes you might be taking this year Aelyn. I imagine we must all have some classes in common. Though I don't have any... umm... Silver... Silverquill. Yea, no Silverquill classes I think." he says. "Now, of course Ambre will be in ALL of them! But what about you Aigne? I presume you are taking Archaeomancy. Hmm... not sure I remember what my others were." He fishes around in his pockets and finally produces a crumpled page. He tries to straighten it out a bit. "Let's see... History of Magic and Art. Ah yes! That sounds good! Then... Magical Physiologies and Basic Magical Auras. That's four right?" He starts to count on his fingers before giving up. "Well, pretty sure that's all of them."
"Yes, please." Aithne immediately accepted Ambre's offer, already eagerly anticipating the opportunity to accumulate new knowledge. "I moved into the central dormitories only a few days ago. I can provide you my room number..." She aborted the attempt to reach for her backpack, realizing if she did, the books would need to be placed somewhere. She was not about to set them down in the courtyard. "Uh, perhaps once we've stopped somewhere and I can access an ink and quill."
"I'm quite envious, I admit. If I had time for more classes, I would take them. But between extracurricular activities and my work assignment in the Biblioplex, I simply can't. I've signed up for Basic Magical Auras, History of Magic and Art, Introduction to Archaeomancy and, of course, Magical Physiologies. It sounds like we'll all be sharing at least one or two classes together." Aithne grinned at the stack of books in her arms, seemingly too happy to keep the emotion to herself. "I'm pleased to know that I won't be completely surrounded by strangers."
"Oh there's still plenty of time in my schedule," Ambre says. "I'll pick up up an activity. Get a job maybe? No idea yet, but if there's room in my schedule, I will find a way to fill it."
"Which classes? I can't really remember now but it was some compulsory class, something with ink and something with art I think. I'll sort it out in time, don't worry Arvol." He says, giving Arvol a friendly pat on the back. "Well no sight of our owlin friend. Perhaps he will catch up with us Professor?"
"I dont mind waiting," Ambre kneels down and takes her bag off, sorting through it. "Gives me some time to get a little more organized." She reaches her arms all the way into her bag and starts digging around, and sounds of large objects moving can be heard.
"Hey, a magical bag right?" Aelyn says, kneeling beside Ambre. "What do you have in there, did you bring furniture for your room perhaps?" He says with a smile.
