Dust in the distance, the signal of an army on the march. No, not an army, but rather the shambling feet of thousands of the enthralled, mortal souls bound to some unexplainable purpose. They trek across the land of Medivalia west toward the Rinsfar Pass, their goal Jurinia Minor…or perhaps beyond.
It is said now that Kobold and Goblin packs dot the landscape, but where they have come from is as great a mystery as where the enthralled have marched off to. Their sporadic patrols make navigation through the forested terrain and snow capped mountains a treacherous endeavor, but they aren’t all that is out there. The Children of Druh descend on the lands from the north, and it’s even said that hill giants have begun to flee from their mountain homes to parts more settled. Your journey to uncover the truth behind this mass exodus, and influx of dangers, leads you across many miles along a road of beaten footsteps, but first you must uncover the first key to this calamity behind the walls of Westmarch…
Do I have your attention? Good. Here's who I'm looking for.
Thanks for your interest in my campaign! There is a lot of information here so please read it carefully before posting.
A little about me. I have roughly five years of D&D experience now and many years of roleplay before that. I’m a storyteller by nature but I have never run a D&D campaign before. I decided to do a Play-By-Post campaign in order to leisurely test some mechanics and build as I go. With that said, the campaign is mostly done; I’ve built the majority of the major encounters, know the main stops and interactions, and have a clear direction of where I want to take you and the story I want to tell. I have more than enough storytelling experience to do this and do it well, and I have enough D&D experience to give DMing a go.
I’m looking for players who have some experience. I’m sorry, but I’m not comfortable with taking on new players for this campaign because I’ll feel compelled to teach as I go when really my main focus here (other than telling a great story) is going to be learning how to DM. I can’t do that if I’m training someone else. When you apply, know that it is under the caveat that you have at least enough experience to know the basic functions of the rules, dice rolls, etc.
I’m not a perfect player. I definitely won’t be a perfect DM. My main priority here (aside from telling a great story) is to have fun. I want to have fun. You want to have fun. I don’t want some rules lawyer or detail monger to attempt to join this campaign. I won’t tolerate it. You’ll be booted if you make this miserable for myself or anyone else. If you join you’re expected to be on your best behavior. Everyone is to be respected, and I don’t want any adult or sexual themes brought up. Reasonable bad language and violence are fine, but let’s try to keep this PG-13 eh?
Your character will start out at Level 1. You will gain a Feat at the beginning of the game, one uncommon item, and are permitted to outfit yourself appropriately with most basic equipment at the start of the game. Advancement will be Milestone. Stats will be rolled via a private Discord server upon your selection, and they will be generous.
I intend to pick between 4 and 6 players. I’ll make selections as applications come in. Once I feel like the roster for the story is full I’ll close this thread and we’ll move forward.
Again, fun is my top priority, so I’m not worried about any major restrictions on what you pull your content from and all that, but if its anything that isn’t normally included on DnDBeyond or if it’s Home Brew please send me a PM so we can discuss it first.
I’ll select players based on the amount of effort and detail they put into their character creation process. The more details you give me, the more likely I am to include you in the party. If I ask for backstory and you give me less than a paragraph, that’s not a good start. I understand that you don’t have all the details of the world, but we can adjust that later. Writing backstories with locations, family members, love interests, friends, foes, all those neat details will really go a long way toward getting you included.
The world will be revealed as we play. I intend to give at least three paragraphs per DM post unless less is necessary, but sometimes you’ll get more than that in order to world build and supplement RP.
You’ll need Discord. We’ll set up a server just for story communication so we can keep our thread here from getting cobbled up with OOC questions and stuff.
If you’re still interested please fill out the below information.

Name: Wyn Willowwind
Race: Wood elf
Class and (planned) Subclass: Circle of the Moon Druid
Alignment: Chaotic good
Personality:
What matters?
Wyn's passion of the moment which seemingly changes with the weather. While constantly falling in and out of love with worldly things, Wyn remains loving and fiercely loyal to those things and people that have been constants in his long life, namely the heavens above. Playful by nature, Wyn loves to run through the forest, interacting with all the flora and fauna, dancing, singing, and competing with all.
What doesn't?
Whatever last week's obsession was. Wyn long ago realized he could not stem the flow of time and learned to enjoy the present, but not to hold onto it. All of these things are fleeting and Wyn let's them go freely, sometimes sooner than he should.
Who does your character want to be?
Wyn wants to be a great unifier, not in power, but in equality. Wyn wants all to enjoy equally in the forest and its many gifts. As a druid, Wyn hopes to gain the respect and ear of the leaders of the elven villages and steer them towards enduring peace.
Backstory:
Wyn comes from the high forest. Standing 5'10 (although many human men of his height have said he is 6'), Wyn has hazel eyes with brown hair that is streaked with blonde where the sun has permanently bleached it. Wyn is athletic from years of running through the forest, often choosing to play with his animal friends instead of the elves from his village. Wyn never held ill will towards his village located near the Grandfather Tree in The High Forest, but long ago left it to be closer to the Star Mounts. Wyn would range into the Star Mounts frequently, as perches their provided the best views of the heavens that always entertained Wyn.
When Wyn set out into the wilds, he rapidly accumulated skills communing with nature. He quickly befriended a Giant Owl named Tyto. Together they would roam into the Star Mounts, with Wyn protecting Tyto and his avian companion in turn scouting excellent places for Wyn to climb and scramble to. Wyn increasingly desired to fly with his friend and began to seek a way for himself to do this. At the same time, Wyn began to notice rumbling amongst the villages. Noticing squabbling between the elves and outsiders entering into the woods, Wyn feared that the forest would be endangered. Then something restorative happened.
Wyn saw the druids of the forest come forth and quell the issues of the villages. The elves were then able to focus on the outsiders and remind them that the forest is not to be destroyed, but respected. Wyn was thoroughly impressed by the druids, specifically one female from the edge of the woods near Shining Falls named Vashti Rivergrass. At this moment Wyn decided his place in the world was to become a druid in order to protect the forest from its inhabitants and outsiders. Plus, this path would ultimately grant him his wish of flying through the sky with Tyto. Wyn gave himself to Vashti in service, and she in turn began to morph his natural talents and connection with the wilds into a sizable set of skills.
Personality: Lignum is fascinated with the multiverse and wants to learn everything about the planes. He is eager, focused and likes the challenge. He is quite young for a gnome at the age of 22. He enjoys seeing the world and learning about other cultures. Growing up in an isolated village, Lignum is a bit naive of the world and always seems excited over ever little thing that he discovers. He doesn’t quite realise how dangerous the adventurous life is. Lignum will always be sure to bring some laughs with him and make the adventures worth remembering.
What matters? Lignum values his research very highly. He has spent a good portion of his life researching the planes and doesn’t want to lose it any time soon. Lignum also loves his village where his family and friends are and wants to return there once his studies are complete.
What doesn’t matter? Lignum doesn’t really care for bullies or people that try to take things that don’t belong to them. Growing up around goblin and Goliath Viking tribes nearby has made Lignum hate anyone that wants to push others around. He also doesn’t care how much money he must spend to complete his research, any price is worth gaining an understanding of the multiverse.
Lignum hopes to become an expert in the planes. He wants to have an understanding of how everything works and how all the planes interact with each other.
Backstory: Lignum grew up in a gnome village deep in the Evergreen forest, an area full of tall trees and wildlife. The village is called Primafundala. The gnomes were very secretive about their village and always had a forest mage cast an illusion to make it invisible to any outsiders. The forest mages descendent from a old family of the village and was in charge of protecting them from invaders. These forest mages were called stewards and were the leaders of the village. The village was constantly in danger from goblins and the Goliath vikings that roamed the area from time to time in search of animals to hunt. Lignum worked as a wood cutter with his family.
He has a father, a mother and two sisters. His parents were called Malmir and Alivani while his sisters were called Torwan and Bellator. Despite the peaceful atmosphere and the good humour of everyone, Lignum always wanted to learn more about the outside world. He wanted to learn how everything works and get into some real adventures. One day in the village, a boy named Tom decided to steal valuables from a gnome tomb. He was always getting into trouble and seemed to enjoy the chaos that he caused. What he didn’t plan on was the angry spirits that awakened from this trespassing. They started to attack the village in a blind rage and destroy everything in their path. Luckily the stewards managed to calm the spirits and return them to their rest by giving back their valuables. As you can imagine, Tom was in serious trouble for this.
Unlike everyone else, Lignum was fascinated by these creatures and asked the stewards if they knew what they were. He spend years researching what he could from the stewards but when they had nothing else to teach him, he decided he would go into the outside world and learn more about these fascinating creatures and return with his knowledge. He didn’t like the idea of leaving everyone he cares about, even if it was only for a time, but he had to learn more about these forces. His parents, although very concerned for Lignum’s safety, understood that he wasn’t going to let this go. So they gave him some gold and said to return if anything goes wrong and to be safe. He left the village and made his way to the nearest city.
The gnomes knew of a place called Stëllkeep, a human city that was apparently not that far. Lignum did his best to avoid fights on the way, since he wasn’t that well trained in combat. When he got to the human city he went to their library and learnt more about the spirits. He spend months talking to mages and explores, asking everything that he could about the wraiths he saw. What he learnt was a bit overwhelming. He discovered that the wraiths were from the ethereal plane and that there were many planes of existence all connected by the Astral plane. Lignum now had a new study, he wanted to learn about the other planes. He was particularly interested in the Astral plane since it connected everything together.
In his research he discovered a legend about warriors that could tap into their astral self that have a unique understanding about the Astral plane and how we fit in the multiverse. Lignum, blinded by the promise for more knowledge, went out to the high mountains where these monks apparently could be found. When he found them he asked them if they could teach him their knowledge on the planes and how they can tap into their astral self. The leader of the monastery, Leo Snowfall an elderly human, said that they can teach their techniques to Lignum but that the road to unlocking this power is long and testing. Lignum spent the next two years learning under Leo about the delicate balance between mind, body and soul and how we fit in the planes. The tests were tough, pushing his body like he has never known, but he gained some understanding of their teachings. Leo said that in order to truly learn this power, Lignum would need to explore more about the world to truly gain an insight into who he really is. He said that by going to new areas in the world Lignum would become more wise and self aware, something that was key to unlocking the astral self. With his astral self, Lignum would then gain an understanding of the Astral plane and be more in tune with the multiverse than ever before. Lignum has now left the monastery and is going to other cities to see if they have more knowledge that he could obtain. He is enjoying the adventurous life and can’t wait to return home once he has completed his journey.
Solid. That's 2 spots filled. Still looking for 2 to 4 more players!
HossfromtheNorth and Mike_290490, I'll be contacting you both soon with my Discord information so we can get you started on character sheets. I'll also be giving you guys some backstory info so that you can integrate into the campaign.
Class and (planned) Subclass: Paladin 1 (want to role play the subclass and possibly multi class towards other charisma based casters (is he enchanted by music one day? bard, or Does inner power awaken in him from fate or intervention? sorcerer, if wis is high enough based on rolls maybe cleric, etc) *we can discuss this in private msgs*
Alignment: chaotic good
Personality:
What matters? Due to not being one of the common races but finding his position among them, Percy both enjoys protecting the order of the world as well as conquering/vanquishing the beasts demons undead etc that threaten this culture. He is an advocate for a culture that he is an adoptee of, which may be an issue much later in life but currently drives his convictions and actions.
What doesn’t? Trust is important to Purr. Those that trick him too many times are metaphorically “dead” to him. The fate and fortune are bit means to growing a found family of trust. Youth was a struggle for him to survive as an outcast/different race.
Who does your character want to be? Mr. Longtail dreams of having an institute one day where orphans of various races can be taught to defend the world of common speakers, as well given the tools needed to perform such service to society. It is unclear how much This dream is Good or bad, but he himself currently believes it to be an honorable goal.
Backstory:
raised in an orphanage to a life of menial labor, he was given the name Percy and the ridiculous family name Longtail by the nuns. Showing promise of both wit and dexterity, he was one day taken in by a warrior who was a distant cousin to the throne names Melville. This brought him into a world of swords and glaives, shields and armor.
upon his deathbed Melville revealed a secret room that contained writings on how to fight not only with the tools given you, but to become a vessel by which that god you subconsciously serve flows through you, if only you take an oath to that being, even if you know not currently who or what archetypal godhead is currently your acting agent.
Thus Purr continued his training, awaiting the time the world would need his service. And that time is now, as the children of Druh depend upon his homelands.
Class and (planned) Subclass: Wizard (School of Divination)
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Personality:
What matters? Vera keeps herself surrounded by people with vibrant, creative personality since she likes their company. She wants to create a connection with them which will be defined as a relationship of co-existence.
What doesn’t? She secretly doesn't care about others emotional status, rarely feels empathy although she'll pretend to be empathetic.
Who does your character want to be? She is actually based on a famous fictional villain, so definitely she wants to be that kind of person.
Backstory:
Vera had a dream that vaguely explained the significance of her existence and purpose through a series of implicitly connected events. The dreams would manifest themselves in real life events which often mingled with the substances of material worlds, morphed them into unimaginable entity while manipulating the reality according to the laws of the realm of dreams and destiny. The dreams compelled her to move and wait for the right time to receive the instructions for doing the thing for which she survived even though she was the weakest of all.
She's a professional fortune-teller, she has a Raven familiar and an invisible/imaginary twin sister with whom she loves to communicate and orders her to complete mundane tasks.
Class and (planned) Subclass: Bard planned (College of Creation)
Alignment: Chaotic good
Personality:
What matters?
He enjoys seeing people laugh.
He always is kind to any outcast he meets, knowing he was like them
Protecting people. Although he is an entertainer he helps with hunting down monsters and beasts from time to time
What doesn’t?
Elves in general. Due to his past he's not a huge fan of elves
Who does your character want to be?
My character wants to be someone who is fair to everyone, and makes people smile. He doesn't need to save the world, Bringing happiness and safety is enough for him
Backstory
the result of a scandalous marriage between an elven noble and her human lover, Amakiir was sent away in disgrace from the elven kingdom of his birth. he grew up in an orphanage, after both of his parents disappeared under mysterious circumstances. now this wasn't a bad orphanage mind you, but Amakiir was still unhappy. Through his time in the orphanage he discovered his love of music, and when he was old enough he saved up money doing odd jobs around the orphanage's town until he could buy a flute, nothing fancy, but it did the job. One of the orphanage's staff helped him learn his instrument. When he was 19, Amakiir left his home and began travelling, playing music for people wherever he was to scrape by
Not as cool as some of the other submissions, but here ya go
A bard is welcome as I see it ;) with a bard and a wizard makes me think my paladin will eventually go in the sorcerer direction for variety… as well a Druid and a monk we cover all bases except thieves tools… :)

What matters? Pucci is generally a calm, reserved, yet terrifying woman despite her general soothing demeanor. She displays a nurturing, almost motherly behavior to her underlings and fellow religious members.
What doesn't? She's fairly arrogant about her intelligence, which is justified as she is rather smart.
Who does your character want to be? Pucci does not want much in life, but desires a peace of mind which she has dubbed 'Heaven'. This is her main goal in life, bestowed onto her by the former priest of her clergy.
Backstory [Fairly WIP.]: At birth, the young minotaur lived a normal life of religion and study from her birth parents. After a few long years with her parents, she expanded outwards or her studies about the gods, until she met a young vampire. This man shared a similar personality to her, fixing her deformed leg with a flick of his wrist just a small taste of her blood. She eventually abandoned her studies, devoting all her time to the blonde creature, developing his views and desiring his life known as 'Heaven'.

Mhm! I just think making her a sheep-like minotaur because of her religious background. ^^

What matters?
Wellis has a thirst for knowledge, a desire to understand as much of the world as he can, and learn the most incredible stories, so he can write songs about them. What matters most to him is that if something interesting happens, he can be there to see it, and subsequently share his accounts with the world. Related to this, Wellis has a strong desire to be liked and celebrated by others. Getting a laugh or cheer out of a crowd is perhaps his greatest pleasure.
What doesn’t?
Treasure isn't high on Wellis's priorities list, nor is any sort of chivalrous duty to protect the innocent. He also doesn't make many friends, at least long-term friends, partially because he's always on the move but partially because he's somewhat selfish and self-centered.
Who does your character want to be?
Wellis wants to gather as many stories and write as many songs as he can, so he can one day join the court of a great king and truly make a name for himself. He hopes the songs and stories he creates will live on forever, told by bards for generations to come.
Backstory:
Wellis was born in a poor but quiet farming village. His father had been a musician before settling down for a more stable life, so whether through nature or nurture, Wellis took a liking to music from a young age. The fifth child of twelve, attention was hard to come by at home, so Wellis figured he could earn his Father's love and approval by becoming a master musician. Instead, his father scolded him for neglecting his chores and pursuing a higher lot in life. "Better to be poor and safe than live life on the road", his father told him, and the pay wasn't great either. Unperturbed, Wellis ignored his Father's words, and after turning 16 left home to join a bard college.
While Wellis was quite proficient with his lute, learning the magical secrets of bards was a revelation for him, as his Father never learned to use his music for magic. An older bard informally mentored Wellis, including once taking him to the court of a great king. Seeing his mentor perform in front of hundreds of lords and ladies, captivating them, and earning their praise, Wellis knew this was his eventual path. Armed with his lute and some simple spells, Wellis began his own journey soon after, traveling the land in search of danger and intrigue for his next song.
Hearing of the massive horde of people wandering through the land, Wellis knew he had to investigate. This would be his first great song, the song that would make him famous and kickstart his career. The goblins, kobolds, giants and whatnot were all just more potential songs.
(some quick notes about me the player - I've been playing DnD for about five years on and off, both as a player and DM, and I've got experience in PbP on Discord. Wouldn't call myself an expert but I know what I'm doing for the most part.)
I'd like to thank everyone who applied! For now, I'm closing this thread to applications. I'll be sending out invites to the players very, very shortly. If we find ourselves in need of more players in the future, I'll open a new recruitment thread.
A little tease of the story.

Name: Percy Longtail aka “Purr”
Race: Tabaxi
Class and (planned) Subclass: Paladin 1 (want to role play the subclass and possibly multi class towards other charisma based casters (is he enchanted by music one day? bard, or Does inner power awaken in him from fate or intervention? sorcerer, if wis is high enough based on rolls maybe cleric, etc) *we can discuss this in private msgs*
Alignment: chaotic good
Personality:
Backstory:
raised in an orphanage to a life of menial labor, he was given the name Percy and the ridiculous family name Longtail by the nuns.

Name: Iseminstra Verakova
Race: Human (Variant)
Class and (planned) Subclass: Wizard (School of Divination)
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Personality:

Name: Emelia Pucci, or just 'Pucci'.
Race: Minotaur [Looks similar to a sheep rather than a bull.]
Class and (planned) Subclass: Sorcerer 1 [Clockwork Soul, plan to multiclass into Sun Soul Monk.]
Alignment: True Neutral
Personality:
Backstory [Fairly WIP.]: At birth, the young minotaur lived a normal life of religion and study from her birth parents. After a few long years with her parents, she expanded outwards or her studies about the gods, until she met a young vampire. This man shared a similar personality to her, fixing her deformed leg with a flick of his wrist just a small taste of her blood. She eventually abandoned her studies, devoting all her time to the blonde creature, developing his views and desiring his life known as 'Heaven'.

Like a goat or Ram? 😇🤓
Mhm! I just think making her a sheep-like minotaur because of her religious background. ^^

Name: Wellis Florin
Race: Human
Class and (planned) Subclass: Bard, college of lore
Alignment: Chaotic neutral
Personality:
Wellis has a thirst for knowledge, a desire to understand as much of the world as he can, and learn the most incredible stories, so he can write songs about them. What matters most to him is that if something interesting happens, he can be there to see it, and subsequently share his accounts with the world. Related to this, Wellis has a strong desire to be liked and celebrated by others. Getting a laugh or cheer out of a crowd is perhaps his greatest pleasure.
Treasure isn't high on Wellis's priorities list, nor is any sort of chivalrous duty to protect the innocent. He also doesn't make many friends, at least long-term friends, partially because he's always on the move but partially because he's somewhat selfish and self-centered.
