I'm playing with the idea of starting a campaign world that is a mashup of (mostly 80s) properties for the creation of the world. Love "The Dark Crystal"? Great. So do I. "Labyrinth"? Yep, me too.
What if I told you that I plan to build this world? What if I told you that I plan to build it out of-
Labyrinth
The Dark Crystal
The Neverending Story
The Chronicles of Conan
The Legend of Zelda (Specifically "Ocarina of Time" and "A Link to the Past")
What if I also season it with some-
Star Wars (more thematic than anything)
The Witcher
Game of Thrones
Masters of the Universe
The Princess Bride
The Hobbit / The Lord of the Rings
Willow
The Last Unicorn
Legend
And what do I have to offer to my players?
Access to all the Sourcebooks (except for Strixhaven and Fizban's)
At least daily DM posts (within reason)
Starting Level 1 but leveling up fast via Milestone
Starting with 1 Extra Feat and Rolled Abilities (totally between 80 and 90)
Starting with 1 Uncommon Item
How do I plan to do this?
I'm glad you ask.
I intend to build an entire world map with locations of from these listed sources scattered across it. You want to visit the Southern Oracle for advice? Go ahead. You want to protect the Last Unicorn from Haggard or Darkness? Someone has to do it. What about navigating the Labyrinth to reach the Goblin City? All of these will be options, and more, as I lay out a world mixing the elements of these franchises together. What's more, I fully intend to find ways for you to create characters that let you play as something close to the beloved characters of these franchises. You can totally make a character that is a homage to Luke Skywalker, Daenerys Targaryen, Link, Zelda, He-Man, Han Solo, Sarah, Geralt of Rivia...I'm pretty open to whatever you think you want to build. Heck, I'll even let you quest for the Master Sword fi you want!
My focus here is to have fun. I just want to build a world where you can do cool stuff with cool characters. Yeah I'm going to challenge you in roleplay and combat, but one of the best aspects of D&D is finding new cool ways to explore your character and what they can do and let them do those things. I am more worried about a good time than I am rules; if you're the kind of person that gets way too focused on rules, this won't be for you.
I want to gauge interest in this concept with this thread. If it looks like it'll be a hit I'll move forward quickly with setting it up. I want to hear your thoughts from you, and what sort of characters you want to bring to the table. If something catches me, I'll reach out with an invite to join the campaign...
No character sheet is necessary yet. This is more of an interest check than anything. If enough people look like they may want to try this out, I'll officially open it up for recruitment and character development.
Absolutely! I'm slowly developing stuff right now. I've got a world map going and a list of things that I want to incorporate. Leaning heavy into some of these themes, and still looking for stuff I've left out. I thought too about letting folks maybe model their characters after some of the heroes and villains from these entries.
I'll post here with a link to an official recruitment thread soon that will have a lot more information about how these different tales are going to marry up to make one big adventure. I think everyone will be very, very pleased with what I've cooked up.
I'll tell you what I think, I think this sounds awesome for a world! I've always been a fan for mashing stuff up, heck, I made a tavern dedicated to just that! So this is definitely on my radar for playing. It is very rare for me to find something that just strikes a bell for my interest like this.

Good, good. I think everyone is going to be very, very pleased with what I've been working on. I done a pretty solid job tying Ocarina of Time, The Dark Crystal, and The Neverending Story as a background and world overall. I've used Masters of the Universe, The Last Unicorn, Labyrinth, and Legend to really spice it up and create some very unique and awesome scenarios. The more I work on this, the more pumped I get about it. Can't wait to show everyone what I've got worked out here. If you're an 80's kid like me, or just a big fan of those movies / shows, you're going to be pleased.
I wanted to give those who've shown interest an update to keep you hooked to the idea, and to let you know I haven't lost interest or forgotten you.
AURYN: The Crystal, the Triforce, and the Shard of Division is coming along very, very well. So far I've written about 5000 words of the campaign and an extensive recruitment thread and hook with TONS of information that will help you guys with character development.
What to expect (so far...)-
- Myriad enemies with unique goals that create a world of intense power struggles - Natural (and unnatural) disasters threatening to off-balance the world - A world defined by the powers of the Dark Crystal, ruled by sovereigns such as the Childlike Empress, King Hyrule, and populated by known 5E races and new additions such as Fairies and Gelflings - A deep lore tying all of these things together into one coherent story - World, Regional, City, and Battle Maps - Encouragement and lore sufficient enough to model PCs after previously established characters (completely optional and not necassary) - Legendary locations, items, and spells from a host of sources including-
The Dark Crystal
The Legend of Zelda
Legend
The Neverending Story
The Last Unicorn
Masters of the Universe
Labyrinth
The Chronicles of Conan
The Lord of the Rings
Game of Thrones
Star Wars*
The Witcher*
I plan to open this up very soon for recruitment; within the next week at the latest. In the meantime, if you have questions you can post them here, contact me through PM, or on Discord at J.F.Capps#7996.

I'm definitely interested in this, but I do not have a character ready yet. See you tomorrow with a ready character for this world!

Man! Love some of those and some I’ve heard of but never seen. Either way my interest is definitely peaked and would love to hear more!

I don't like rp-heavy games, I LOVE them.
