"I mention the letter because the offer of access to their libraries could actually be helpful to us, as loathe as I am to work for such an individual."
In the center, is a large keep of sorts that butts up to the side of a sheer cliff.
......
A group of Orcs walk around the back portion of the keep.
OOC: Not sure what we're seeing here - does there appear to be space between the back of the keep and the cliff? Did they appear out of a doorway or a cave?

"But accepting the offer " replies Cyrnair after seeing the letter " will bound you to Nan'Tahir and you could not come with us to search the relics. And I feel safer with you with us. "
"I dont think it is worth the hassle. I am sure there are better libraries without the commitments." Ky says.
OOC: Devon mistakenly posted on my browser, and went to bed. He has a cold. For those that did not see it, he said the keep in built into the wall of the mountain, and the guards patrol outside it.
OOC: Sorry everyone. Rough day for me yesterday. Carodoc: The fort looks to have been originally built slightly out from the mountain, but it looks as though the fort has been expanded over the past few years or so by stealing bits of material from the existing town around it. You have only seen 1 patrol thus far, but it came from the south, around the outside of the fort, and headed northeast of the fort, sort of towards you, but headed away from you eastward as well. I will post a rough sketch on the doc.
"We should get off this ridge. We will stand out up here. Lets head for one of the buildings that is decent enough, and see if we can spy out this area a bit more?"
"Let the dark elf get a little farther away... the rest of them shouldn't be too hard to avoid alerting. My question is... why are they turning this old mine into a fort? And one of those guards looks like a lovely fountain of answers..."

"I certainly agree with finding a place to hunker down and avoid notice," Ennis agrees. "And I ALWAYS agree with getting more information when possible."
As you continue to watch for awhile and discuss, you watch as what looks like a second par tree y of guards moves out from the opposite direction as the first and spirals out around the town. Nervously, you watch for a while before seeing the original guard group come back into view. From your estimation, it seems that there are 2 guard groups.
"We can always try to catch one of the guard groups " says Cyrnair " or at least one of them... " he says looking to the others letting them know that he wouldn't disagree with a more expedtive way to deal with them.
Looking to Cyrnair, Ky says, "I dont want to go through a fight knowing you will be upset with the outcome. So lets talk it over first. I think a suprise attack would be best. Let's hammer them with really powerful stuff first, but as quitely as possible, and leave an orc alive... trolls are stupid and drow won't give up information. If we get the element of suprise and we all focus down on the troll first, we can dispatch the drow before it can cast a spell or react."
Thinking about sound for a moment, Ky looks to Flint. "If we figure out the path they are taking, can you cast silence and have them walk into it? That way they cant call for help or cast?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"After sitting in the lap of a god, and seeing that hole torn in the world, I've gained a new appreciation for our lack of really powerful stuff," Caradoc grins, pointing to Cyrnair's new sword. "Let's go find some more."
OOC: what kind of "black armor" is the dark elf wearing? :)

Carodoc: It looks to be like a combination of Studded leathers, with a scale plates over the breastplate. It is also wearing a full metal helm. It looks vaguely... insect like. (In game mechanics, it is a breastplate Medium armor, but I like this visual)
OOC: So it seems the group has decided to go down then?
The group slowly works their way down the sheer cliff. The dew starts to frost in the cold air as the suns heat off of the rocks cools. The party makes it down to the base of the valley without issue, and finds a suitable building to hide in and wait for the ambush. Waiting nearly 20 minutes for the meandering guard group to come past, Flint casts Silence in a bubble along their walking path.
(I will not make you roll stealth, as they are in silence, you are hunkered down hiding in a building, and presumably PWaT, is up now right Jessica? I will add the location on the map for you all.)
Initiative
Ky: 18
Cyrnair: 2
Flint: 6
Ennis: 20
Gelin: 16
Carodoc: 27
Drow: 12
Orcs 5
Troll 14
I will say you have a round of surprise on this group.
Ky is going to hunters Mark the Troll before it comes into range, and then still be able to use Planar warrior on it as it comes into the Silence range.
The 2 Ice arrows slam into the Troll. It roars in pain as it pierces into its throat, and the planar damage flares as well, dealing additional damage. It is an odd sight to see... a creature screaming without a noise to be heard.

Ennis adjusts his glasses as he nods to Cyrnair.
"As I said...it comes with its own kind of baggage."
I tried to ask him more, but he is out of it.

OOC: If we get off the path can we conceal our approach?
OOC: yes, farely easily. It is a dilapidated old road and building structure, with varying degrees of slope.
