Full name: Nixi Dimnodder Evangeline Bugstomper "Squirrel" of clan Bindlestiff
Nixi was born to middle-class gnomish parents who were respected jewelers and clockmakers. However, when she was only 10 years old, her parents died in a fire which burned down their home and shoppe. There were whispers that it was arson, perhaps from a dissatisfied customer or rival artisan. Suddenly, Nixi was left without family or means; everything of value had been lost in the fire. She lived on the streets for a time, living off scraps and what she could "borrow" from others. Eventually, a kindly human mage caught her with a few tomes she had pinched from his library. Instead of punishing her, he saw the magical potential, and decided to teach her some magical skills. Nixi studied with him for twelve years, until one day he disappeared without a trace. After waiting for months with no word from her mentor, Nixi set out again, full of sadness and rage at being orphaned a second time.
Name: Ipavyn Fabblestabblefoot Class: Cleric (Tempest) Points (Standard Array): STR 10 | DEX 14 (12+2) | CON 14 | INT 8 | WIS 15 | CHA 14 (13+1) Background: Sailor
Backstory:
Ipavyn was always an inquisitive boy, exploring all the lands around him, getting into scraps with his friends and staying out far far too late past his curfew, much to the chagrin of his aunt and uncle (who brought him up). But one night he didn't come home at all. Because Ipavyn had stumbled into the path of Drow slavers. Seeing him for his value because of his diminutive size, he was taken to the nearest slaver port and sold to a smuggling ship as a "powder monkey".
It was 5 years of hell at sea for Ipavyn. Typhoons and hurricanes, run-ins with pirates and anti-smuggling fleets, attacks by sea monsters, sirens and spirits left the young Halfling near broken. Worse still was how the skipper treated him: a whipping boy for his own dark, insatiable desires. Until one night, just as Ipavyn had been summoned for another night at the Captain's mercy, a great squall blew up, buffeting the ship as the wind whipped at its sails. The Captain emerged onto the deck yelling at his crew to make the ship fast, but just then a bolt of lightning struck him dead on, vaporising him and leaving only a pair of smoking boots. Ipavyn knew that the God of Storms had answered his prayers and saved him from the Captain. He dedicated his life there and then to the great god Talos, bringing all predators (like the Captain) to His swift mercy.
Surrounded by St Elmo's Fire, the crew were terrified that their powder monkey had now become the tool of justice of the great god. Fearful for their own lives, when they next reached port, they let Ipavyn join them ashore to enjoy the taverns, brawling and wenches. But it was his first time. And the alcohol quickly subdued him into unconsciousness. And that's how he comes to be on dry land - and in your company...
(Thought I'd get one last application in under the wire...)
