Name:Sarya Embershade Race: Half-elf Class: Warlock (Genie) Background: Criminal Backstory: Sarya grew up in the streets of Luskan and quickly fell in with the criminal underworld of the City of Sails. As she grew up she found that she had some talent for charming and conning mechants, nobles and pirates out of their coin, spending a lot of time at the tavern the Cutlass. She also did the occasional heist, one fateful night visiting the pasha Khalid Zasheir at his chambers at the Royal Arms Inn, snatching a ruby ring the pasha held very dear it turned out. The pasha was visiting the Host Tower of the Arcane and quickly acquired the help of the Arcane Brotherhood with trying to track down the insolent girl that had stolen his precious ruby ring. The same night Sarya woke up, a booming voice calling her, the image of an immensely powerful efreet lord wreathed in flames trapped in the ruby ring appearing in her mind. Farouk, the efreet lord offered her fiery eldritch powers in return for seeking out powerful magic that would be able to release him from his longtime imprisonment. At first reluctant to become indebted to this evil being Sarya quickly changed her mind as it became apparent that the pasha had set his arcane hounds on her and in order to escape them she accepted a the pact with Farouk. She has now taken her refuge to tentowns, planning to lie low there for as long as necessary for the trail to grow cold (no pun intended).

I grew up in a village on the outskirts of Lonelywood, an outsider and I never knew my parents. My adoptive mother and father were dwarves that worked with wood and helped in the lumber industry. I was obviously an outsider, born of dragon kin, a 50-50 mix. I favor the dragon side of my heritage, I learned that I was resistant to the cold of the north, could help my father bring down trees by hammer, axe, and saw.
Our village was saved by a traveling warrior, we were attacked by bandits from the north. My mother and father were killed in the raid. This warrior taught me how to use a short sword and a war hammer effectively, with deadly aim. I want to learn his way of battle, how to harness energy to strike more effectively, the way of controlling a battle with your heart and mind. My master later died of his wounds that he received in this battle. He taught me well though and set me on this path. I wish to seek my fortune and to learn further about what my master taught me. I wish to seek out the tribe of bandits and their leader and avenge the death of my master and my parents.
Hifu was trained in the art of combat by an old traveling warrior. He saved his village from bandits while you were training together, but died in the process. Hifu inherited his weapon and his techniques. You have proficiency with a martial weapon of your choice, and you own one such weapon. (warhammer)

Name: Xilbella Eagershine Race: High Elf Class: Rogue (Going Phantom) Background: Haunted One Backstory: Xilbella has always had a connection to spirits of those recently deceased. She hears their voices in her dreams, and feels their presence all around her. Some of the things she hears, though not exactly pleasant, are at least not horrible either. There are some voices she wishes she could have never heard though, ones that scream and rant, others that tell her of evil and vile things done to them. These voices would have made Xilbella mad if she had not found ways to push them back to some extent. She has had to travel though, leaving her homeland and moving from place to place. It is best, she has found, to live where there are less people. This is what brought her to the frozen tundra of Icewind Dale. Survival here takes a great part of her concentration, which helps her push back those other voices a bit more, and far less people live in this ruggid land than places further south.
Brother Thaddeus, Human Cleric(Light) of Lathander, Guild Artisan background.
Backstory: Son of a glassblower/lantern maker and a stained glass artist, Thaddeus was fascinated by light and the sun. He would help his parents in the business but kept up with religious training. After taking his vows, he had a dream about bringing light to a frozen land and began traveling to the north with a wagon full of lanterns. Mishaps along the way have left him staggering into the first town he could, no wagon, no supplies, not-quite adequate clothing, and wondering what the heck he is doing.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Name:Dwalt Fiercehammer Class: Ranger Background: Folk Hero Backstory: Dwalt was born in this country. He has made a name for himself among the local folk as a hunter and has helped to provide starving folks with enough meat to get them through the harsh winters. Now things seem to be getting worse and there are rumors from the colder lands of vile deeds. Dwalt had picked up his crossbow and has set out to find out if these rumors are true.
Backstory: Darby came from a long line of gem merchants that had a long standing trade up and down the Sword Coast. As was expected of him, when he came of age the young Gnome took up the family business and left to learn the from his various relatives. During his travels he was robbed by and left for dead, losing one of his families valuable gem stones. Not wanting to return home a failure, Darby chased after the thieves, tracking them to IceWind Dale.
Backstory: Daphina was drawn into the House Sivis when the leader, Lysse, noticed her grow as a sage. Hailing from the Misty Forest, she tried to do her job well. She did however, let her curiosity get the best of her when some of the communication she was in charge of, she let spill to her best friend and things got heated after that. To escape the situation, she is running North. Even though she is now marked with the Scribe, she is going to try and make a new life... if possible.
Name: Valdis "Book" Winterflame Background: City Watchman Backstory: Valdis "Book" Winterflame is a human wizard that is part of the Arcane Brotherhood in Luskan. Book, a nickname he got from his fellow city watchmen for always reading something, came to magic later in life than most of the Arcane Brotherhood. He started as a city watchman but found that all the power in the city of Luskan was held by the Arcane Brotherhood. While he didn't long for power as an end in itself, he wanted to have a hand in better protecting the people of Luskan. He showed promise and his years led his master to trust him more than his other apprentices as he showed something often lacking in the Arcane Brotherhood: common sense and impulse control. Thus, when one of his master's apprentices went missing presumably chasing after the other three headed to Icewind Dale (namely, Nass Lantomir), it was Book that Zelenn the White sent to retrieve her. It was also intended to be Book's first true test to see if he was worthy to continue as Zelenn's apprentice. Class: Wizard, will be Order of Scribes
(Actually, there's a bunch of spellcaster applications already, you'll need a ranger in Icewind Dale)
Name: Grimkirk "Grim" Icebreaker
Background: Outlander
Backstory: Grimkirk, "Grim" to most, is, despite his name, generally quite good natured. As a local Ten Towner, he is known here and there as a hunter and ranger who mostly keeps to himself, but enjoys a warm inn from time to time. While he is generally well-liked, there are those who think he harbors a dark secret.
Backstory: Yeti was named Otheig at birth. A white-haired bugbear, he grew up with a pack of bugbears who lived along Icewind Pass. He was rejected from his pack because he was too gentle, and would often try to make pets out of their prey rather than eat them. Chased away, he found his way to the northern shores of Lac Dinneshere and survived by catching fish. Those in the settlements were of course wary of this fearsome creature, which they believed to be a yeti that stalked the wilderness around the village. But Otheig never bothered anyone, and would sit at a distance and watch the lights of the towns. One evening, he came across some human hunters who had been caught in a snow drift. He pulled them free and carried them back into town. At first the townsfolk were prepared to kill him on the spot, thinking he had murdered the hunters. But he was able to explain and show them that the humans were alive. Since that time, the townsfolk have come to reluctantly accept the bugbear, naming him Yeti, which is the name he now prefers. He still lives on the outskirts of the settlements, but visits from time to time to visit with friends both old and new.

Ghathi grew up in one of the clans near Icewind Dale. Living high in the mountain, they tended to shun those from outside. He came to be called Stonetwister due to his skill as a mason. It was a trade that many in his family followed, including his father. However, he also had a strong aptitude for religious life and was long expected to become a cleric for his clan.
However, as Ghathi prepared for life as a cleric, he realized that it was not the voice of the clan's storm gods that spoke to him. Rather it was the quieter voice of Ilmater, urging him to a life of service to others. Falling into conflict with the views of the tribe, he soon realized that the calling he had meant leaving his clan. It took him some time, but eventually he made his way to Luskan and found other followers of Ilmater. He spent a number of years in that city learning, tending to those who needed care, and becoming a cleric. He found that often his skill as a mason though came in handy. Doing work with his hands was one way that he was able to help others. Much of his free time he could be found working on various projects such as repairing a poor farmer's broken wall or pitching in to build an orphanage.
It was in Luskan that Ghathi met Sarya Embershade. The young half-elf had grown up on the streets and always seemed to be getting in trouble. Perhaps he was a bit misguided, but he saw her as a victim of her circumstances and tried to help her out. Recently Sarya had gotten involved with some pasha. He didn't know the details, but he knew that she was in over her head. Knowing Icewind Vale was a place a person could seek refuge, he pointed her in that direction. His own clan was wary of outsiders, so he wasn't sure she would be welcome there. But he knew in Ten-Towns she could find a place to get away from her trouble in Luskan.
He of course offered to go with her. Someone had to help make sure she made a good start in her new home up north. And he longed to return to the land where he had grown up. It seemed like now was a good time to return.
