I am running Wild Beyond the Witchlight here on 'DnD Beyond's' Play-by-post forum and am looking for another player (or two) to join the game.
Interested players should create a 1st level character using 'Standard array' or 'point buy' and post a link to them in this thread. Official content only please.
The game has already started, and I require a witchlight hand (someone who works for the Witchlight Carnival) to join our game. Your character should use the 'Witchlight Hand' background. We will sort it out if you don't have access to this background later (Use a temporary background for your character at this stage).
Please post your character's details and backstory and a link to their DnD Beyond character sheet here, along with your prefered play (social, combat, exploration etc.), and anything else you think is pertinent. Use your best persuasive skills.
The game is moving nicely with dedicated players. I am looking for players who are prepared to post at least every second day and share this dedication to the game, please.
I will review the characters a few days from now. Feel free to PM me or post your questions here. You can check out the game thread here.
Vera had a dream that vaguely explained the significance of her existence and purpose through a series of implicitly connected events. The dreams would manifest themselves in real life events which often mingled with the substances of material worlds, morphed them into unimaginable entity while manipulating the reality according to the laws of the realm of dreams and destiny. The dreams compelled her to move and wait for the right time to receive the instructions for doing the thing for which she survived even though she was the weakest of all.
She's a professional fortune-teller, she has a Raven familiar and an invisible/imaginary twin sister with whom she loves to communicate and orders her to complete mundane tasks.
Preference: Social encounter, combat and exploration.
(Link to character sheet will be sent through a private message.)
Class: Fighter (Battle Master or Banneret/Purple Dragon Knight)
Background: Knight
Preferred: Mix of Social and Combat with some exploration
Backstory: Liam grew up in the city of Arabel, admiring the stories of Purple Dragon Knights and War Wizards and took pride in being a part of a noble family in Cormyr. He was a squire to Kayla Rowanmantle and trained under her. Shortly after attaining knighthood, he suffered a training injury before he could fight in the Netherese War. As he healed, he heard stories of about the Witchlight Carnival and spoke to the Royal Mage about it. He learned that one of the Obarskyr Royal Family lost an artifact at the Carnival many years ago. Liam volunteered to take this quest. As if by coincidence, the Witchlight Carnival came to Cormyr.
Name: Tirfan (Last name has long since been forgotten)
Race: Harengon
Class: Warlock (Archfey)
Background: Witchlight Hand
Backstory: Tirfan once had a last name. At least, he thinks he did. He has a lot of fuzzy, faint memories of a maybe-family. He lost them, though, when he wandered into the strange carnival as a child and was swept up into its embrace. He has always been small and quick - at first, he was a good runner between the various moving parts of the carnival. A behind-the-scenes hand, if you will. As he grew, he learned the games and the shows; he learned how to be a barker for the carnival, which is where he felt most comfortable. He could conjure minor illusions to attract guests and entertain children. This is how he met his patron: a child-like Archfey who delighted in his soft fur and willingness to make a fool of himself for their entertainment. They met any time the carnival stopped over in the Feywild, and his patron has tried to steal him away from the carnival more than once. But as the years passed, the carnival's hold on him faded and his curiosity for the world beyond the big top grew.
Preference: I prefer social and exploration to combat, but a good mix is fine with me :)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Hey there! I'd love to get involved, I've been wanting a chance to play Witchlight since it first came out! I'm a very dedicated player, posting in the couple of games I'm involved in pretty much every day. I'm a strong writer and I always make it a priority to get deep into character and engage with the others. Here's a roleplay sample if you're interested. I think I'd bring a lot to the game, if you'll have me. Here's what I've got for ya:
Name: Aros
Race: Satyr
Class: Rogue (Aiming for swashbuckler eventually)
Ability Scores: Point Buy (With Racial Bonus): STR 12 DEX 16 CON 14 INT 8 WIS 8 CHA 16
Background: Witchlight Hand
Carnival Companion: 3 Performer (such as an acrobat, a clown, or a musician) It would be very fun to have a clown friend!
Personality Traits: Good music makes me weep like a baby. When I have a new idea, I get wildly excited about it until I come up with another, better idea.
Ideals: Friendship. I never leave a friend behind. (Good)
Bonds: A trusted friend is the most important thing in the multiverse to me.
Flaws: I never give away anything for free and always expect something in return.
Backstory:
Family? Sure! Aros has loads of family! Family up to her ears! SWIMMING in cousins and uncles and parents and... Who? Oh, you wouldn't know 'em. Aros hasn't seen them in a while, but you know how it goes when you're so busy with work...
Aros has been working for Mr. Witch and Mr. Light for gosh, how long has it been? Time sure flies, huh! Anyway, Aros runs one of the card tables at the carnival, and she LOVES it. Best job she's ever had! Only job she's ever had! Imagine getting paid to play games all night! And you wouldn't believe the tips these guests give her. They wouldn't believe it either, so do Aros a favor and don't mention it to anyone.
But anyway, Aros runs her table and it's a gas. Plays the odds, cracks some jokes, winks at the occasional pretty patron, and when she's lucky, gets to rough up a drunk or two who dares accuse her of not playing fair! Aros rakes it in for Mr. Witch and Mr. Light. Sooner or later they might even notice it too! Then when it's quitting time she heads over to the crew tent for the afterparty, hopefully with aforementioned pretty patron in tow. Then she sleeps 'til mid afternoon, wakes up, and does it all over again! What more could you want?
Only, something's been dogging Aros lately. This weird feeling there's something she forgot to do, like she'd promised to help a friend with something but forgot when and where and what... And who. And when she remembers, she has a funny feeling she's going to have to offer her resignation. And once she's done that, she doesn't think she'll be coming back. Aros wants to stay at the carnival with her table and her parties and her friends. It's all she wants. But every day she wakes up a little more certain that whoever she promised to help isn't going to wait much longer and if she doesn't go, that pretty soon they'll come looking for her.
Aros is the youngest daughter of fey nobility. Before she was born, her mother lost a powerful magical artifact and she grew obsessed with reclaiming it. When Aros was a child, the artifact finally turned up, in the hands of a cult in the material plane. The cult promised to return the item only if her mother provided them with a fey child to be stripped of her magic and made into their oracle, forever enthralled to their dark purposes. Aros was volunteered.
Aros' mother told her nothing of this. Instead, she brought Aros to the material plane on a lie, telling her they were going exploring. It wasn't until the ritual binding Aros to the cult was complete that Aros understood what had come to pass, and by then there was nothing she could do. Aros snuck out in the night and ran, eventually finding her way back into fey and the carnival, and willing herself into forgetting the whole ordeal. But Aros is bound to return and fulfill her duty eventually, and though she doesn't know it, her time is running out.
Preference: Socializing is the bread and butter of play-by-post, and is definitely my favorite. That said, I like every part of the game! I don't think I've ever built a character with as many skills as Aros, so I'm looking forward to exploration and puzzle solving especially with her.
Backstory: Resmae is a quick little thing that has fun in whatever she does. Even mucking out the stalls, which has now unfortunately become one of her daily, sometimes twice daily chores. She has been with the circus for as long as she can remember, having been swept up as a child, amongst all the fanfare that comes with a traveling circus. She easily found a home here being willing to do whatever asked joyfully, as that was her nature. In the small freetime she had, she used it to call upon her God and become a cleric. It was something that brought her peace within the chaos, calm within the madness. It helped balance her as she helped the artists within the carnival balance their acts. After all her time here, she does always keep an eye out for something else to tease her away.
Preference: Roleplaying and combat are probably 50/50? maybe heavier on the RP, then exploration. Though I like that as well. I enjoy watching characters develop into who they are and the dynamics that come with the other characters as that grows. I am an active player, on this often.
Thank you to everyone who submitted a character here. You have all made the choice very difficult with some excellent characters. I will review, and if you are chosen, I will PM you in the next few days. If not, I send my apologies and thank you. Good Gaming.
