Hello all. ComradeSorcerer here. I'm a DM with a handful of years of experience under my belt, and recently I've really taken to the PbP format. I currently have one PbP game ongoing, but with the amount of downtime that playing by text provides, I wanted to get a second game up and running to test out a module I've been eyeing for a while - Dragon of Icespire Peak. This is what I'd describe as a semi-sandbox module. The players are given a variety of quests to pick between, and they're all pretty open ended, so it stands in contrast to a more linear starter adventure like Lost Mines of Phandelver. It's got all the hallmarks of a classic D&D quest - the town, the villagers, the dragon threatening it all, the surrounding landscape rich in monsters and loot. I'm planning on running it pretty close to the book because I just want to see how it goes - I don't usually run premade adventures and I'm curious.
This thread is recruiting for a Discord based game. Do not apply if you do not have a Discord account or are not interested in playing on Discord. More details will be shared in a group DM, and I will then provide the link to a server there. We will be using the Avrae bot to play.
Some more info below, along with what I'm looking for in players.
PARTY SIZE AND CHARACTER CREATION
A party of 5 level 1 characters. ANY homebrew should be cleared with me beforehand. Generally homebrew not from a known source like Critical Role will be rejected as a rule. Keep in mind this adventure will take place in the Forgotten Realms. For extra source books, major expansions (not setting books) like Tasha's, Xanathar's, Volo's, etc are preferred. Use of Avrae Google sheets, Dicecloud, or the D&D Beyond character creator are all acceptable. Clear any other character creator preferences with me beforehand. Stats should be point buy, standard array, or rolled as 4d6 drop the lowest. Please roll in this thread.
ACTIVITY
The games I run tend to expect fairly high activity, about 3-5 posts a day, with more very much encouraged. These don't have to be particularly long, and enforcement won't be strict, but it's a good baseline regardless.
ROLEPLAY LEVEL
My games are roleplay intensive. You are expected to get in character and stay in character. Of course, this isn't a "no fun allowed" rule, D&D wouldn't be D&D without the occasional shenanigans, but there is a line.
BEGINNER FRIENDLY
This game will be accepting of all levels of experience, whether you're new to 5e, have a few sessions under your belt, or are a veteran.
OTHER EXPECTATIONS
It is discouraged to apply if you have DMed Icespire Peak, read it extensively, or played through it already. Almost all of my rolls will be made publicly - I will not be pulling my punches, but that's not to say I'm trying to kill the party. Just keep in mind it's entirely possible to lose a character in the right circumstances. My games also tend to be pretty, well, "descriptive" on the combat side of things. It's not overly gratuitous splatter stuff, but it's medieval combat, and medieval combat gets grisly sometimes. So gauge your comfort level with that - if you can watch a humanoid-on-humanoid Critical Role combat encounter play out without getting overly squeamish you're probably fine.
APPLICATION
The character application template is below, you should answer all of these questions at a minimum but feel free to add on more information if you wish. Preferably just post your application in this thread instead of DMing it to me.

Fun fact about your character (feel free to give more than one):
Silly question; If someone's rolls for abilities are absolutely horrid, would they be allowed to choose standard or point buy, or have to commit to the first rolls?
Another silly question, would it be alright to roll in a separate post before submitting an application?
Answer is yes to both. You can take standard or point buy if you don't like your rolls, and you can roll before you post an application. Neither are silly!
Wow! pretty decent rolls, I think I’ll keep those.
Character Name: Elidi Mayledge
STR: 12 DEX: 17 INT: 16 CON: 14 WIS: 12 CHR: 13
Class: Rouge (Arcane Trickster )
Race: Fire Genasi
Background: Noble
Gender/Pronouns: Female(She/Her)
Short Backstory:
Elidi was born the youngest daughter and only genasi to a noble human family, the Mayledge’s fiery heritage lying dormant until her birth. Because of this, she was often treated as an outcast by her own family - they were never cruel to her, but she was never really a true part of the noble house. Eventually she was given her own private quarters and servants, and only really talked to her family when they dined together. Although the genasi still partook in noble etiquette, her heritage and household rank granted her considerable freedom compared to her three elder sisters. While they sat around in frilled dresses sipping tea and entertaining guests, the young girl would explore the house’s extensive garden, teaching herself to climb trees and ride horses. This continued on for many years, with Elidi drowning her loneliness in self-entertainment while her family did their best to forget her existence.
This eventually came to an end when Elidi was 18, and her parents announced she was to be wed so they may strengthen a political alliance with another house. Elidi was furious. How dare they try to marry her off after ignoring her all these years!? And so, caught up in a fiery burst of passion, the noble lady ran away from her family’s manor. The fire genasi spent the following few years on the streets of a nearby kingdom, figuring out how to fit in with low society and how to thrive while keeping her true identity hidden - the last thing she wanted was to be returned to her family and forced to marry some rich man. Here, she learnt the art of the blade, and became particularly good in slipping in and out of areas unobserved and undetected, seemingly merging with the shadows
Fun fact about your character (feel free to give more than one): Because of her human genetics, Elidi’s race is not noticeable upon first glance - she has pale skin and rounded ears typical to the human race. However, her bright orange hair and the golden flecks in her eyes separate her from the mundane earthy brown characteristics of her family.
Almost forgot this but including your timezone somewhere in your application will be helpful. %99 of the time it won't affect if you get accepted or not, just good to know in general. Will add that to the original post.
Class (and subclass if applicable): Druid (Subclass haven't been decided yet!)

Short Backstory (1-2 paragraphs, you can give me more later): Tigerlily was often shielded from the world within the forest where her family resided. Outside of the Feywilds, they said, you cannot trust any of the Tall Walkers. They are dangerous, they are untrustworthy. Despite the warnings, Tigerlily had always a restless energy to explore and experience the world she resided in, seeking connection to others than the wood and beast. Curiosity ultimately won over obedience when, on a mere impulse, she stole away into the night away from her family's eyes.
Fun fact about your character (feel free to give more than one): Tigerlily is 1'7"foot (48.26cm) tall and is 54 years old

Chief, created as Aegis, was purchased and designed to be of service to Shemratha Callingowl, or more appropriately; The Grove, a temple dedicated to Eldath, the Green Goddess. He spent 25 years in service to the temple before being chosen to make the pilgrimage from The Grove to Elah'zad and the Misty Vale. While traversing through The Duskwood forest, Aegis came upon a recently sacked forest town, fires still burning. Being wary, but curious, Aegis took a wide berth around the town while peering within. Hearing a whimpering within, he took great caution approaching to locate the source of the noise. The whimpering came from a young wolf pup, lying bleeding next to a young dead elf. Following the Green Goddess' dogma, Aegis said a prayer over the pup, but before he could sink his blade into the creature to bring it peace, its form shifted from a wolf pup to a young elven child, no more than 14 winters old. Aegis took this as a sign from Eldath and cared for the child while continuing on his pilgrimage. Over the months of travel Aegis and Leah bonded while traveling together north to The Sword Coast. Learning of her druidic powers, Aegis taught her the ways of the Green Goddess. The two spent two years traveling the lands, continuing to delay Aegis' pilgrimage in favor of short side adventures that they otherwise may never get to do. One fateful night however in the bowels of Baldur's Gate, Leah up and disappeared leaving Chief with no hints on what happened.

Short Backstory (1-2 paragraphs, you can give me more later):
Qasimir, despite his ability to blend in, had never found anywhere to call home. As a foundling and orphan he ended up roaming the streets until a chance meeting with a Wizard who found his particular mutation fascinating. In return for a roof, food, and a small stipend, Qasmir agreed to be studied by the Wizard. Qasimir’s connections to the local underworld was also of interest to the wizard, who soon had him performing “odd jobs” that the wizard himself was unwilling or uncomfortable performing.
In time he learned a little of the wizard’s ways. He was not trained as a wizard himself, but some natural affinity for magic meant that he could understand and mimic some of the wizards spells, as well as how use to use ane make simple potions, tinctures and remedies. Eventually, they learned that their adoptive father was planning to steal their powers ("it's for your own good; you will finally be able to fit in, child"). If Qasimir only knew one thing, it was that their nature was an integral part of who they were, so they fled to the streets making use of what they had learned from the misguided wizard.

"grandpa" Salkur, deep gnome artificer/sorcerer: Spiderwrangler's Forged in Chaos | Pepin, Human Artificer/cleric: Goblin horde | Mixtli, Volcano Genasi Artificer: Champions of the Citadel
Gender/Pronouns: She/Her for Ailbe, any and all for me.
Backstory: Ailbe cannot count her years. Not like there's any reason to. Nothing that happened in her young life mattered, besides that she was an archaeologist, delving into dusty tombs and catacombs, making proclomations about what did or did not belong in museums. Her job was relatively uninteresting, as she never found much of interest. That is, until she encountered a particular Mulhorandi burial site. It wasn't anything particularly new, all sandstone and empty spaces where the gold had long since been plundered from. That is, except for the fact that there was a conspicuous lack of mummified corpses. The one corpse they did find certainly appeared mummified upon first glance, but further investigation revealed several properties that implied some sort of miraculous preservation without mummification. Some more investigation, which came in the form of observing the corpse standing up and sucking the life out of her partner, revealed that the corpse wasn't much of a corpse at all. A well-placed shovel later, and it finally became a real one. The only artifact recovered during that expedition was the golden funeral mask of the not-corpse, which was unlike anything yet recovered from Mulhorand.
Ailbe brought the mask with her back to her base camp, and that night she had terrible dreams. Dreams of not being able to breathe, her airways plugged by a gold surface that perfectly molded to her features, covering her mouth, her nose, everything except for her eyes. Dreams of weakness, of lying immobile for so many years, hunger driving her mad. When she woke, she found that her dreams had come true. Somehow, the mask had found its way onto her face, and it would not come off, no matter how hard she tried. When at last she gave up and went to eat breakfast, she found that she had no appetite. She was hungry, but ordinary food didn't appeal to her. She recalled what the thing in the crypt had done to her partner, and understood what she now hungered for. As the years passed, she tried her best to sate the hunger in ethical ways. Pests, plants, rabid animals. But the few times she has had to truly defend herself, she has fed well, even against her own will. As she grows frailer and frailer, but her mask still shines bright, these times are growing more and more frequent, as opportunistic thieves underestimate the unnatural speed and agility the mask has granted her.
Character Portrait:
Fun Fact: Ailbe's walking stick was originally taken from the Chondalwood, in between Mulhorand and her current residence on the Sword Coast, during her many years of travels between the two places. She was promptly chased out of the area due to the unhealthy effect her presence had on the local wildlife, and she took the hint before anything truly fearsome started to come after her.
Alright lets run with it; if you think it won't be viable let me know and I can change it.

Race: Tortle
Background: Far traveler
Gender/Pronouns (for your character, include your own if you wish as well): He
Short Backstory (1-2 paragraphs, you can give me more later):
Theri is a tortle who'se had some troubles from when he was born. As it was sound found that something didn't go right; his face had some weird scars and he couldn't walk to well. The strength in his arms was remarkable compared to how he often walked with a kind of limp. Luckily, it soon became clear that his talents lay elsewhere. He had a good wit about himself and it was soon clear he could read people well, and always found stuff that his brother, sister or parents lost with his keen eye. That his why his parents send him to a druid in a nearby forest when he turned into adulthood.
At the druid he found that his wit also helped him in channeling energy from nature to cast spells. The first one he learned was thorn whip which he used to get fruits out of high trees. His teacher helped him more and more untill a couple of weeks a go when he was, according to his teacher, a real druid now. He told him he should go out into the world to learn more, to teach himself more and to help those in need when possible. So here he is now looking for people that can use his help.

Short Backstory (1-2 paragraphs, you can give me more later):
Nasrin grew up in a forested community of mixed races, originally founded by fled and escaped slaves from the Underdark. The wonders of the forest and the fey impacted on Nasrin from a very young age, and with the guidance of elven friends she embraced Meilikki as a true friend of the forest. Short Backstory (1-2 paragraphs, you can give me more later): Grudim was born in a clan that does not take 'half bloods' lightly. At every turn he was judged, mocked and ridiculed and that made Grudim different. It was not the words but more the drive to prove he belonged that changed him. His fierce strength came by a lot of training, hunting and battles for the clan, all with the drive to prove himself.
At few years back, at a yearly clan event Grudim proved himself, he came on top of all the other clan members but still it was not enough. A few of the beaten ambushed Grudim late at night, sending him in a frenzied rage and killing two of the ambushers. The shame, guilt and him finally proving he was a strong member of the clan made Grudim leave and start travelling... Finding people around him who took him for who he was and could be.

Dragon of Icespire Peak
As she grows frailer and frailer, but her mask still shines bright, these times are growing more and more frequent, as opportunistic thieves underestimate the unnatural speed and agility the mask has granted her.
