Hello all. I am brand new to the community and very excited to discover this means of playing D&D! I've quickly rolled a druid and (I think) jumped onboard. Please let me know if I did anything wrong with stats etc. and I'll gladly adjust Abel's sheet. I'll be able to post here most days if not every day. Looking forward to this!
You've been traveling north for a few days, having fallen in with a small group of other travelers - most heading to try their hand at digging gold in the region. The road has led to a hunting camp on the edge of a large pine forest. The road turns more toward the east beyond the camp heading off towards a mountain range that can be seen on the horizon.
As hunting camps go, this one is large and more or less permanent. Resting on the edge of the tree line sits a few ramshackle shacks, and a couple of peddler wagons that from the looks of them haven't moved in years - one of which looks to be used more as a bar. Its surrounded by tree stump stools and wagon wheel tables. Several tents fill the area, as well as a couple large cook fires. Everywhere is filled with hard looking men wrapped in leathers and furs getting ready to start a new season's expedition.
The wagon driver of your traveling group reigns in and pulls to the side of the road. Hopping down from his seat, the driver says, "I guess we'll stop here for a bit. We probably won't see anyone else for a while on this road, so might as well take a break and maybe see what's for trading."
DMN**:
Welcome to the game! As we get started, remember that it will take some time to fall into a routine, and the characters to begin to mesh. Or perhaps they won't, and you will all die nasty deaths at the hands of a werewolf, or perhaps even each other. We will see where the campaign goes.
I like running sourcebook campaigns for the use of premade content, but my main goal is to let you develop your characters and have fun. Play by Post is fun for me, because the campaign becomes a story. I played on Nexus Keep for years, and I'm still quite fond of several of the characters and campaigns I ran or played in on that website. This is my first PbP campaign on D&D Beyond, and I plan on using as much of the integrated tools as possible.
The players we start with will likely not be the ones we finish with. Some of you will like my DM style, and some won't. That is okay. Real life may take you away for a bit, or you may just not want to play anymore. I just ask that you communicate so that I can take steps to keep the group full to support the players that are engaged. I'll try to keep the player group around 4-5 at a time. We have 9 to start, but I know that will change over the next week or so. I'll also begin to review the character sheets and PM you with any questions/comments.
In general, each of your posts should have two sections. An IC and an OOC (definitions below). The IC is what your character is doing, while the OOC is any notes or dice rolls that need to be shared. Please link your D&D Beyond dice rolls to your post so everyone can see them.
At any time, if you have any questions or want to provide feedback that you don't feel comfortable doing in OOC, feel free to PM me.
Bruno looks out of the wagon, scanning the scenery. His eyes dart all over, looking at where he has stopped. He then hops out of the wagon, stretches, and then sighs.
”not sure about you guys but that might have been the longest wagon ride I’ve ever had. The fact that I didn’t sleep doesn’t help at all.”
Having been lulled to sleep by the rocking motion of the long wagon ride, Yoli awakens once it stops. Rubbing his eyes and taking a drink from his waterskin, he aurveys the scene, looking for any folk here who look particularly naive or weak-minded.
Yoli thinks "I'm not sure this is the best place to find a good mark, but one must try"
Bruno looks at Tanar, his gray-blue eyes always seemed like he was tired. He goes and reaches back into his seat to grab his bag and goes back to looking at the camp.
”well if we are staying here, At least it’s better than the wagon, eh? Can’t wait to find a solid place to sleep, each time I tried to in the wagon I ended up laying on something wet and I don’t want to know what it was”
Boil looks at the others getting out of the wagon, admitting to himself he needs to stretch his legs as well. He has been pleasantly surprised to have been able to to travel with these folks without being stared at or mistreated for his poor complexion. Most of the time people treat him like a leper. “ I hope there is hot food as well as strong ale” he says as he stretches out his arms, then cranks his torso to stretch his spine a bit.
Boil checks his coin pouch to ensure it didn’t take a walk when he wasn’t looking and to remind himself how much he had left. “ would be nice to stumble into some good gold on this trip…”
he grins with his Dragonborn smile. The missing patches of scales and blotchy skin makes him look like he just crawled from a grave. He looks around at all the people prepping for the prospecting expedition and wonders how many will need to be killed eventually.
Acher awakens in a momentary panic, eyes darting around until he recognizes his surroundings. He quickly exits the wagon but stops the instant his feet are on solid ground. There he just stands and stares, slowly taking in the camp. If someone objects to him blocking the wagon door, he will apologize and move. Once his eyes land upon the mountain range, he moves closer toward the view and begins muttering prayers to St. Cuthbert.
As the various travelers disembark Quin marvels to himself about his good fortune. Finding this wagon train camped for the night just when he needed a way out of town unseen was most fortunate. But this harness he had rigged up was the true stroke of genius. The ropes and pitons that had allowed him to stow away under the wagon had actually been comfortable. Swaying back and forth with rocking wagon had actually been quite soothing. More than once he had caught himself dozing in the make shift hammock. As he lowers himself down he sees travelers disembarking all around. When he sees an opening suddenly appear Quin makes his move. He rolls out from under the wagon and jumps to his feet. A quick look around and a dust off before he saunters around the wagon and heads toward camp.
OOC:
Figured it was just an intro so no dice rolls needed. If I'm wrong let me know.
Abel seems visibly relieved as he emerges from the wagon and takes in the open air, and his posture shifts noticeably from relaxed to alert as he takes in the vista of the deep forest beyond the row of shacks and wagons. He leans on his staff for a moment to stretch out his back muscles before slinging his pack over his shoulder and following the others toward the camp.
As the wagons roll to a stop, Kwami the cleric does not bother to get down. His thoughts consume him, and he cannot focus on anything around him for the moment. Everytime he closes his eyes, he sees once again the horrible twisted visage of his own father, converted into a vampire spawn, blood dripping from his mouth as he laid waste to their village. Despite the years that have passed, and Kwami's studies with the priests of the Morninglord, that image still haunts him. Kwami brings his holy symbol to his lips, kisses it, and whispers to himself, "Never again."
After some time Acher's posture relaxes and he turns back toward the camp. He breathes deep, hoping to smell a stewpot cooking. Regardless of what his nostrils tell him, he soon walks into the camp.
Razaniel jumped off the wagon in silence, making sure his gear and weapons were in place - the wide brimmed seemingly always obscuring his eyes for some reason, as if he lived in perpetual gloom - "Food sounds good" - he nodded at the others - "And a drink wouldn't hurt also" - the man added with a deep voice as they moved.
His eyes surveyed the camp - seemed like an inoffensive enough place, where hard working men and women congregated to do some hard, honest work. He felt comfortable around honesty. But looks could always be deceiving.
OOC:
I am assuming we kind of already know each other from the trip? Razaniel is a skirmisher type combatant - he fights with two weapons (and hopefully magic in the future, as an Eldritch Knight). I hope to make him fast and agile, but since I am not a master of D&D, my choices may not always be the best. Feel free to offer advice ;)
Also, good to be on board for this one! Thank you for having me.
