Not exactly! I know quite a few people that are professional swordfighters (fencing, sure, but a few know longsword fighting styles---it's pretty cool) and others take archery. In my opinion, all styles of combat are abundant enough in the modern world for character use. While it would be more practical to be a gunslinger, as you're gonna find more guns than anything else (maybe knives and axes next), that doesn't mean it's your only option. Same goes for armor, and horseback fighting. Hope this helps!

I know they *exist* in the modern world... but are they effective? Who is going to ride a horse instead of driving a car (or a HumVee or a tank?) Who is going to bring a knife (or a sword) to a gunfight, no matter how good of a fencer they are? Seriously, there is a reason modern military and police (and cartels, etc) don't use crossbows and javelins and rapiers. They are ineffective vs. modern weaponry. I mean, if we went full "Star Wars" then maybe blades come back into play, but current Earth conditions were stipulated, not sci-fi. There would have to be some world-wide event that rendered all firearms more modern than a musket unusable in order for swords and arrows to be effective in anything other than highly specialized situations (Hunger Games, etc).

So sorry about the late reply!
I hadn't actually thought of that. I've been thinking on it for the past few days, and it's really stumped me. For all intents and purposes, though, the campaign is mainly a rp and story -based campaign, so it won't be relevant right away. I'm totally open to hearing suggestions on solving the problem, though, because I really don't want to limit players' options just because I didn't think far enough ahead. Really sorry to have you wait a while only to see this kind of response, but it's all I can think of atm.

I'll be closing apps (at the latest) 24 hrs. A little early, but there's been no more apps in 2 days. In the meantime, feel free to make any last-minute adjustments, submit any apps, or PM me if you have questions! In the meantime, I'll be PMing the people I'd like for the party, confirming their spot in the campaign. I'd like to keep it relatively small, but if you're still interested by all means put your character up for consideration, just in case some of the people I ask aren't able to join (for any reason)
I should also clarify that this campaign will be HERE on the forums, not on Discord. Sorry if that's a dealbreaker for anyone!

Jack, a Changeling Artificer/Bard/Cleric/Fighter/Rogue---RynnElocin'sFrom Dusk to Dawn Amon, a Fairy Arcane Trickster---ShieldHero_'s Fractum
Backstory: He had always wanted to be in the military but what he found was not what he had hoped for. One tour was enough. He left the Corp and got a degree in engineering but there were no jobs in his field. Then the disaster hit and even suprising him all the dumb training he had to do came back to him and kept him alive, so far.
Backstory: Alivis saved the down of Bathul from an evading storm of goblins, but instead of a spear or sword she preferred to use words of kindness. She was able to diplomatically soothe the goblins over and establish trade. But even though she saved the town, she knew that she was destined for far, far greater things. She wandered around the town in order to help people and eventually came across a small church. This church upheald the aspects of peace and love, and she was quickly enamoured. She prayed to the goddess from the Church, Evening Glory and eventually her prayers were answered. Now she does as her goddess wishes and to spread peace amongst the living and the unloving. While sharing the word of Evening Glory, there was a quake and a shatter, everything that is around them turned upside down. Doom is intimate as the planet drew closer and closer. Alivis wasted no time gathering those harmed by the impact, carrying those to her church, and making some ride on her back as she runs.

UPDATE!
Ok, it's been a little more than 24 hrs. All of the spots have been filled, and the party is ready.
If, for any reason, an existing party member has to leave the party, I'll refer back to this thread to find a replacement, of sorts.
Thanks so much, everyone, for your interest in the campaign! As my first PbP campaign, it means a lot.
