The carnival has come to town! Everyone’s overjoyed to see the ‘Cirque de Lune’ come to the small, rural town of Esperal. The town has put up lights around the square to commemorate the occasion, the smell of cotton candy lingers indefinitely in the air, and the low hum of voices that once backdropped the market has now risen to an excited buzz. All is well until this little countryside town falls prey to a string of frightening murders. The mayor has enlisted your help---the party---to find out who is behind the homicides and to put a stop to it. Murders aren’t good for proceeds, after all!
P.S.: If you want to check out my DMing style, check out my other PbP, “The World Isn't Over... Yet.,” here! Also, if you’re already in that PbP campaign, you can still apply for this campaign, but I’ll consider other applications first.
General Info and Table Expectations: I'm looking for a group of 4 or 5 players to run this campaign with. I won't tolerate any kind of bullying, homophobia, racism, sexism, etc. Period. This is a mainly RP based campaign, maybe with a little bit of combat woven into the main story. I expect players to post more than one or two sentences, and post often ('often' means at least once every two or so days, but preferably every day. Just to keep things fresh and rolling.) We'll play here on the forum.
Important Disclaimer and Game Expectations: I expect the tone of the game to be a weird mix of things. Parts of it will lean more towards a horror/thriller genre (hopefully, I’ve never run a horror game before), but a large part of it will be more like a murder mystery, with some more comedic movements woven into it. In terms of gore, expect a little bit of blood, but come prepared for more than that. I’ll have to play that part by ear, depending on what’s appropriate for the situation and for the players, etc. In a similar vein, I don't plan on telling easy stories, especially as the campaign develops. This is super important. As the campaign goes on, be prepared to have to make difficult decisions, get stuck in difficult scenarios, and face events that outside the world of DND would be heavily traumatic. Of course, if there is anything that makes any of the players uncomfortable, I will steer clear of certain topics. My goal isn't to make you any more uncomfortable than what is bearable. I'm here to tell stories, and sometimes the stories will get troublesome (as is expected in storytelling, there have to be some challenges). However, there will be light-hearted moments and such. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the type of content, don't hesitate reaching out to me. I'm here to help, and to tell the stories I have to tell.
Character Creation Rules: -Level: You all start at level 8. -Race/Class: All races are allowed, including homebrew races (given I am provided adequate information on the race itself). All classes are also allowed, with the same rule on homebrew. However, I will not be able to provide players with any extra classes, feats, races, subclasses, etc. That is something you have to provide for yourself. -Multiclassing: I would prefer it if you don't multiclass, as I am not the most experienced DM and am not entirely familiar with the rules of multiclassing, however I will accommodate if anyone strongly wants to multiclass. -Feats: I'm also not the best at managing feats, so think of it the same as multiclassing. -Ability scores: You can reroll 1s only once. Any scores with more than one reroll, or the 'manipulated rolls' tag above it will be ignored. In order to circumvent this, copy the application, then roll (and reroll if needed), press enter, and paste the application below. If you edit the post, don't touch the score line, otherwise you're free to edit the post as you like. Additionally, if you don't feel like putting in all that work, you can also just roll your scores and paste your application on two separate posts. -Background: Anything goes, even custom backgrounds! Just the same as homebrew, though, make sure to check in with me before anything else. -Backstory: You can go crazy with the backstory! Or not. Anything and everything is allowed, including coming from other worlds/universes! The kind of technology needed for inter-stellar/multidimensional travel isn't available yet in this world. However, we'll find a way! Just make sure to talk to me in my PMs if that's the case.
Application (copy and paste):

Last Things: Please be nice. It's just common courtesy, we're all here to have fun. Additionally, recruitment will be open until the 14th of June, a week from now. If there are too few people, I'll extend the recruitment period, and if there are too many people, I'll close it early. I’ll post an update in this thread either way. Lastly, make sure to have fun with this! If there's anything extra you want to add to your character (homebrew weapons, races, mounts, classes, companions, etc.), just ask me in my PMs! I'm open to most anything, and am willing to discuss ways to implement it into the campaign. My PMs are almost always open, so just let me know if you need anything!

You want to know what happens to a child born without an arm in drow society? Easy, we get discarded. No idea how I survived. All I know is I have only had one arm for as long as I can remember. Most my childhood is a blur and probably filled with trauma and shit I don't want to remember so screw it. I'm not interested. I live today. I live now. I live for myself and those I consider friends or family.
About 10 years ago I met Triande. A kindly old half-elf that introduced me to the Lost Rodents. They are who I consider my family. I don't even know my biological family. They could all be dead for all I know. What I do know is that I'm not your typical self-absorbed deceptive psychopathic drow. I do have to deal with that bullshit of a reputation they built up though. That stereotype is applied to me on a daily basis unless folks make an effort to get to know me. It's fine, I always get a little payback to people who treat me like garbage.
I don't trust wizards. I went to them for help with... my magic once and lets just say the Lost Rodents had to come and bail me out of the situation I found myself in. Now, I think I'm just barely of adult age for a drow and its been a long time. In truth I don't know how old I am. I know I'm young for a drow. I read that drow come of age at 80 so... sure, I'm 80.
