The kids grab Rycroft's purchased half-pastries and wolf them down in the blink of an eye. "Cake!"they cry again, now focusing their full attention on Rycroft.
Tuuli watches the crowd. It is becoming quite crowded and busy.

Harrow recalls what little he knows about the lau-pop flowers. He knows they are naturally bioluminescent, and recalls that Siabsungkoh is famous for them, but nothing else.
Walt examines the vanilla buns. They look delicious, but the price is rather steep for a simple pastry. From what he can tell it's an ordinary pastry, filled with brown paste. The bent old woman is delighted to answer your questions about the buns. She goes into a long and well-rehearsed, but persuasive explanation about the traditional and rather extensive methods required to prepare them. But as far as you can tell there is nothing arcane or extraordinary about these pastries. They are undoubtedly high-quality, but also steeply priced.
Tuuli looks at Harrow from between her fingers. "Um, yes. Uh... you know, sure, but I'm pretty sure we're not going to find it here, so, ahem." She tries to distract him from the matter with a wave of her hand, "Crowd is getting busy, we should get a move on, to, whatever... everyone has to get to?"
(What are the chances Tuuli noticed what Knicknack was doing? She was watching the crowd, and Knicknack was able to see our group, and Tuuli does have a high passive perception, but there are also a lot of people, so fair if she didn't.)

Success! Knicknack happily pockets the hair piece. "The master thief strikes agai-..."she starts to think, but freezes when she sees the look from the pretty air genasi. When it becomes obvious she isn't in immediate danger, Knicknack grins from ear to ear in her most hello-I-am-just-an-adorable-little-girl way and beelines through the crowd to Walt.
"Hiya, Walt!" she says. "I found something for ya!"and she will proudly present the stolen frog hair stick. "And don't buy Vada's buns! She doesn't wash her hands and I saw her spit in the dough once[an obvious lie]. You know where the best food is in Dyn Singh!" and Knicknack will strike a pose and repeat her advertisement from earlier, word for word. "My papi appreciates customers who appreciate good food. But what brings you here tonight? Are you here for the Games?"
She will also size up Tuuli with big inquisitive green eyes. "Hello. I'm Knicknack. You're really pretty. What's your name? Are you looking for something here or at the far end?"the last question being Thieves' Cant for:"Are you a friend?"
Rycroft's positive energy was infectious. Calista smiled at the kenku and watched the performance that had caught his attention for a few moments. "Yes, we don't want to lose you, Rycroft!" she chimes in with Harrow and Tuuli. "It would be easy to get lost in such a place."
"I think I'm more than a little bit part magpie myself," Calista informs Tuuli. "Archaeologists also like collecting shiny bits and baubles, after all." She chuckles.
Calista hangs back a bit for Walt to catch up, smiling at the woodcarver. She asks to see his latest work and exclaims over the artistry of the boomerang.
"I wouldn't mind a bite to eat," Calista agrees, still marveling over Datari, the first fairy she's ever met.
Calista purchases one of the signature vanilla buns and takes her time savoring the sweetness of it. She's never tasted anything so heavenly. She breaks off two small pieces for the children to enjoy as well. This is definitely the most expensive pastry she's ever eaten, but it tastes like ambrosia itself.
As Tuuli declines the pastries, Calista cocks an eyebrow at her, wondering what she considers her two vices to be.
As another genasi approaches Walt and issues the warning about Vada's buns, Calista's eyes go wide and she chokes a bit on the last bite of her vanilla bun. "W-what?" she exclaims, staring at the genasi. "Games? What games?"

“Knicknack! So good to see you on this fine evening. What have we…oh my!”
Walt is absolutely flabbergasted at the sight of yet another beautiful gift from Knicknack. Walt thinks to himself “Look at the wood grain! and craftsmanship!”
“My little friend, you’re far too kind. I have no idea where you find such treasures. Thank you so much!”
“Don’t run off yet. I have a little sumting for you. Close your eyes.” Walt says to his little friend. “No peeeeeking…”
Walt digs into his pouch and grabs the boomerang he was working on this afternoon.
“Alrighty, put out your hands.”
Knicknack puts out her little green hands and Walt sets his gift on her palms.
“Open your eyes” Walt exclaims excitedly and a wee bit nervously.

"Well, don't give up too early, Tuuli," Harrow encouraged, but saw her distraction as she gestured toward the crowd. Harrow watched bemusedly as a sprite-like earth genasi emerged from the bustle moments later with a gift for Walt, and he mentally filed away her warning about the vanilla buns at Vada's, shooting the elderly shopkeep a suspicious glance. Judging by Walt's reaction to the little one -- Knicknack, rather -- they knew each other well, and Harrow beamed at them both as they exchanged their gifts. Just as he was about to echo Calista's question of what Games Knicknack was talking about, he heard the shouts and cries from the street, and he stepped forward with concern, peering around with the crowd.

Datari listens avidly to the stall keepers explanation of how the delicoius smelling vanilla buns are made. He is just fishing out his two gold peices when he hears Knicknack mention Vada's unsanitary habits. Tottaly missing the lie he looks up, startled, then narrows his eyes towards Vada. Baring his pointed teeth, Datari drops his coins back into his pouch and leaves the stall in a huff.
He is just rejoining the others when he hears the commotion. He lifts off the ground, his wings buzzing faintly, untill he is high enough to look over the heads of the croud, scanning for the source of the shouting.
Shouting rises over the sounds of haggling shoppers and the sizzle of cooking street food. A shrill voice cries out, “Give it back, you little thief!”
You hear hurried footsteps headed in your direction, as the crowd cranes their necks to get a better look.
Knicknack turns towards the noise with a curious expression and holds her ground, bold as brass. She appears as surprised as everyone else. "Oh no. People really ought to keep an eye out for thieves at market. There aren't many, but you never know who you might bump into here."

Harrow peered around with the crowd, trying to spot the source of the commotion, when Knicknack said something that struck him as a little suspicious. Still on his tiptoes, he looked askance at Knicknack, trying to discern whether there was a hidden layer of meaning to her words.

(I realized that I'd forgotten to roll my investigation check earlier -- sorry about that!)
Just as Tuuli is sloppily fumbling to hide the hair stick, a frantic young kobold bursts from the crowd clutching a sizable bunch of green onions. A flustered gnome woman chases him.
“No, you’re the thief!” replies the youngster over his shoulder with a panicked squeak.
He blindly crashes headlong into Tuuli (who manages to keep on her feet, but must make a DC 12 Dex save or drop the hair stick onto the ground.)
The young kobold, however, bounces off Tuuli before falling to the ground.
A moment later, the gnome catches up and attempts to yank the green onions from the kobold's hands while railing at him.
Tuuli manages to keep from dropping the stick (or stabbing anyone in the eye with it), and recovers her balance. "Whoa, hey now! What's going on here?"

“Oh my! That does sound quite delectable,” Walt says to the sweet woman running the stall at Vada’s.
Walt ponders his decision. Had this bun been priced at 1sp, perhaps he wouldn’t be as interested.
“I believe I’ll pass on the vanilla bun for now,” tells the nice woman, “but perhaps another time. I thank-ee you for your time.”
Walt smiles a large toothy smile and tips his hat to the kind lady, snatches his staff and chuffles out of the stall to rejoin his friends.
Upon rejoining his friends he continues on about how entiicing they vanilla bin was.
“So, where to now, friends? I’m up for anything!”
