will throw together character sheet and backstory after work :)
Apologies - Withdrawing previous submission as I am not sure the Monk Unarmed Strike and Fighter's fighting style of Unarmed Fighting combine the way I first expected so... *shrug* Instead I offer up a new take on the character: Kauphyn - https://ddb.ac/characters/80146147/VpHxpW
Race, class, subclass, background: Custom Lineage (Tiefling) - Barb1/Fighter1/Rogue1 - Urban Bounty Hunter used to reflect Elite Guard
Reason why you might be called upon by the queen to help solve her problems: As he is already a member of the elite Sword Dancers guard, Pharoah is familiar with Kauphyn and aware of his singleminded devotion to her and her rule. If nothing else, she knows she can trust him to defend her and her interests...
Backstory: Kauphyn was born into poverty and all signs pointed to him walking a path of crime and darkness. Luckily for him, however, he was born a Tiefling and that in and of itself was enough to grant him certain considerations. Instead of his first brush with the law putting an indelible stain upon his reputation, Kauphyn was instead spotted as having unique strength and coordination for one his age. These were skills that some recognized and valued... Pulled out of the life he knew, Kauphyn was instead placed into training to become one of the elite guards of the Land of Aldhahab.
Kauphyn's pig headed single mindedness on making the most of this opportunity and proving himself to those who gave him the chance drove him further and further up the ranks of the guards, surpassing even those who started at an earlier age or had other advantages. Eventually Kauphyn was selected by Pharaoh Kheprina herself to join the ranks of the Sword Dancers, an elite troop of guards known equally for their dazzling performance with twin blades as their deadly effectiveness with them. Once given this honor, Kauphyn dedicated his life to Pharaoh Kheprina and all that she commanded...
Name: Khaddim Binnh (meaning: "one who serves" and "clever" respectively, his first name was given by his father as a mockery)
Race: Half Orc (his father is an elf and his mother an orc).
Class: Monk
Subclass: Way of the Cobalt Soul
Background: Custom/Haunted One
Backstory:
Born from an affair between his elf father and his slaved orc mother, Khaddim lived his life as a slave in his father's home. He started working as a young kid being treated awfully by his half siblings growing his hate towards every noble and every cityzen who didn't try to change sistem of slavery. Fortunately his mother kept him in from falling into a deep depresion over the years and taught him everything that he needed to know about the world.
One day while he was cleaning his father's library, he found a book from a famous monk and started learning from it, eventually learning how to master his energy and anger in a more productive way.
Now that he is a full adult and does everything to help anyone who is in need (nobles and a few racist cityzens because he has to and good people because he wants to) hoping that one day slavery will stop.
Reason why you might be called upon by the queen to help solve her problems.
His father learned about the situation of the river, the ominous noises in the pyramids and the increasing attacks of Sphinxes, and decided to send his slave to solve the matter so he could prestige in Aldhahab and favours from the queen. Khaddim sees this as an oportunity to stop being a slave and maybe change not only his life, but every slave's.
Kismith lived in a hut on the banks of the Okhiti river. He lived a lonely and peaceful life, fishing and sheltering travelers that came by his home. However, lately, the waters of the river have been drying up and the fishes have been dying in large groups. He pray to the gods, hoping they would help him fix this problem. Until one day, he received calling. He was told to travel to go and meet with the queen to offer his services. He picked up a decently large branch that was floating in the river and fashioned it into a club, using leftover bark to make a shield, and then he set off to complete his mission.
Reason why you might be called upon by the queen to help solve her problems.
Though he has a big heart, Kismith isn’t exactly the sharpest knife in the drawer. He honestly thought he could walk up to the queen, unannounced, and tell her his purpose. The guards probably arrested him before he had a chance to get close to the queen. But upon hearing of him and his quest, she agreed to grant the Tortle an audience.
Will flesh of the details to tie into the region’s specific geography later.
Long Joseph is a Human Ranger (Hunter) with the Folk Hero background
Backstory
Long Joseph is a shepherd & hunter for his village / clan - famous as much for his silence around people as he is for his ability to keep predators away and food on the table. Ever since his apprenticeship he spends as much time out on the grasslands as possible…
Reason why you might be called upon by the queen to help solve her problems.
A year ago, when the Queen was touring her villages, her guards overlooked the presence of a rogue man-eating lion. Joseph spotted it in time and killed it with a spear, but not before taking a raking scar along his chest and arm. The Queen had his wounds healed, but retaining the scar as a mark of pride.
Are you allowing Critical Role stuff for your campaign? I'm thinking of having my half-orc be Way of the Cobalt Soul, though I'm not completely sure. So I wanted to know what are your thoughts about it.
Critical role content is more than welcome :)

I know you’re against magic items, but I read more on the artificer class today (yes, never played one before) and it looks very crazy powerful. If you don’t like the class but like the character’s background I can change the class to something more suitable if you wish.

Race: Emerald Dragonborn
Class: Warlock
Subclass: The Undead
Background: Charlatan
Backstory: The way he tells it, Drenzek was patrolling the hallowed ground of Sos-en-Toneb (open to DM input) to protect it from tomb robbers, when a sinkhole opened up beneath him. He found himself in the Tomb of the great Pharaoh Kalmenhephra (again, open to DM input). The spirit of the great Pharaoh saw his pure heart, and choose Drenzek to be his voice to the new generation!
In reality, Drenzek was one of the tomb robbers he professes to be so ardently against. He had broken into the tomb of what he thought was some minor noble looking for ancient knick knacks to pass off as some antique treasure, when it opened out into a huge underground complex of rooms. In a central chamber he found a dark plinth holding an ornate amulet. Picking up the amulet, he was thrust into an ethereal realm, face to face with the spirit of Nal-Tash, a Wizard of great power long ago who gained a large following and attempted to take power from the rightful Pharoah. His spirit and body were separated, and his spirit bound to the amulet. He promised Drenzek great riches and great power if he reunited his spirit and body. However, he had no idea where his body had been moved to so long ago. He tasked Drenzek to rebuild his following, and locate his body.

Backstory & Reason why you might be called upon by the queen to help solve her problems:
As a newborn, Three was sold by his single mother to the royal family. She was a mother of four, and couldn't raise a fifth child. At the age of 6, Three began training to become a royal assassin. He had his first kill at the age of 9. Three was raised in the Church of Amaunator, where he received powers from Amaunator due to his devotion. Three believes in the law, and will follow it without fault. While Three was naturally gifted in the arts of death, he never found passion in it. He found his true passion in creating music. He was always fascinated by how the mind works, and loves a good riddle. Three was never given a real name. Among the royal assassins, your name is determined by your rank. Three could've been Two, or even One, but he decided to take a slower, more relaxed approach to his victims. After getting his client's information, he would meet them in a bar, or a park, and befriend them. He would play them music to gain their trust, and eventually, he would determine himself whether or not they deserved death. His system lead the queen to dislike three, so instead of disposing of a useful asset, she has decided to send him out on a difficult quest. If he succeeds on his mission, he shall be forgiven, and if he fails, then there would be on less nuisance to deal with. (If this sounds like the character is fight-based, he originally was, but my goal is to have him evolve as a person throughout the campaign, with the main class becoming a bard. He'll go from a law-abiding killer, to a somewhat law-obedient free-spirited entertainer.)

Backstory
Ella was born from "an accident" one night her father, an elf, drank too much on the human part of the town... Her grandmother, not wanting her grand daughter to be raised among the lowly humans, took her in and paid her mother to get out of town and never look for Ella. She grew up always with the best tutors to teach her how to be a proper lady, but she was a rascal, who'd often skip classes, run away, and had a gigantic wanderlust. Ella was always quick to make friends and loved animals, she'd often even sing and play to them at the gardens, but she was really naive and probably too good for her own good. One day, in her adolescent years, during one of her escapades, she met a mischievous old woman who asked her for help. She took her to an backalley and they both disappeared. That woman was actually a Hag, who took her to the Feywild. Luckly for Ella, escaping was one thing she was good at, and she managed to escape from the hag before any harm was done, but she was stuck on the Feywild. She was lost for a few years there, made several fey friends, one in special which was actually an Arch-fey. After a while, the arch-fey noticed Ella wasn't being as cheerful as she used to, so he offered her a magical boon to try to cheer her up. Innitially, it worked, the things she could do with boon were fun, but it didn't solve her sadness. What was making her sad was that she was actually homesick, she missed her grandmother, her father, even her tutors, so nothing in the Feywild could would really make her happy again, so the Arch-fey decided to send her back to her plane. She went straight back to her house, being received in shock, as she had been missing for years! They even had a symbolic burial for her. Her family took her in again, but her grandmother was worried that Ella, after spending time on the Feywild, would be even more of a rascal than she was before. She though of way to make Ella useful for the family. She doubted any higher noble man would want a unruly woman such as Ella, so marrying her would stay as a second though. So Ella's grandmother noticed her new abilities and saw that as an opportunity to approuch the Royal Family.
Ability scores (optional and can be rerolled if absolutely terrible)
With the racial stat distribution: STR: 8 DEX: 16 CON: 14 INT: 9 WIS: 10 CHA: 18
Reason why you might be called upon by the queen to help solve her problems.
Ella's grandmother is rather influential and wants her branch of the family to rise and gain favour, so she pulled her strings so that Ella gets called upon by the queen.
