Hi forum friends, I'm Ivory! I'm a DM who's run a lot of games using Discord and Roll20. I've used this site to organize my campaign's characters, but I never really checked the forums until now, and haven't ever done a play-by-post. So I wanted to give it a whirl.
Looking around a bit, it looks like you all just start recruitment threads, pick players up, and start gaming?
I'll go ahead and tell you a little bit about what I want to do and how my games work, then I guess send a character to the thread.
This is gonna be a Tyranny of Dragons campaign, starting alllllllllllllll the way at the beginning. Because I'm sure people have played this before, I am gonna make some changes as I see fit.
I like characters with a few juicy deets in their backstory I can hook onto if I want! "he/she doesn't really talk about their past." or "they don't know anything about their past" is a really lame cop out and I definitely won't go for it. I don't need or want a novel. Maybe a paragraph, or just a few vague ideas in sentence form will do the trick.
Character interactions are fun!If you don't like roleplaying with other players, this probably isn't the game for you because I definitely leave space for that.
Homebrew races/classes aren't things I go for. You might run into some cool homebrewed items, or fight some spooky homebrewed monsters though.
Here's the warning: don't be ******** or bigoted to each other, you will just get yeeted out of the game.
I'm U.S. Pacific Time, but I don't think that really matters too much since we don't have to all be present at the same time. That being said, there are some days I probably won't be able to get on, so here's a quick sched:
Sunday: Playable
Monday: Nope
Tuesday: Probably Nope
Wednesday: Playable
Thursday: Probably Nope
Friday: Playable
Saturday: Maybe Playable
For your character, here's the info I want:
Name & Age
Class
Background
Backstory Details
I like players to roll for ability scores, and re-roll ones(same thing if you do manual HP on level up)
For most of their history, The Cult of the Dragon has hellbent on creating undead dragons to fulfill a long sought prophecy. They are notorious for their subtle yet vicious means to achieve their goals. Among the power players of the Realm, they have earned their reputation, but rarely posed a tangible threat to the Sword Coast. Unfortunately, that has changed. A mix-up in leadership has altered the Cult's directive, breaking their concealed operations and emerged into the open, sowing death and tragedy along the many villages and townships of the Sword Coast region. Suspicious individuals with a dark agenda seek to accomplish something that could throw the entire realm into turmoil. Hope yet remains, as five brave souls make their to the simple town of Greenest, unaware of the grand fate that lies before them...
Backstory: (as told by the merchant who sees him come and go) Sam was born and raised in a small town north of Waterdeep. He hasn't mentioned its name, but I hear, a few years back, there was a terrible fire that took most if not all the of the town. Only a few souls made it out, Sam being one of them. If asked he won't say nothin about it or his time there. But, ask him about his adventures or the Monks that took him in and he'll spin you a long tale. He's a good kid but you can see this haunted look in his eyes, one that burrows on down into the soul. Lately he's been pickup odd jobs here and there to have some scraps to eat. Amazing thing is, every week he'll put a coin in at the church and one he mails off to the monastery that done raised him and taught him to fight. So, Yea, I'd recommend him for your group to take on those cultists.
Class - Rogue (Hope to multiclass into Warlock as well)
Background - Pirate
Backstory Details Qolo was born into a poor family and doesn't even remember his origins as his first memories are of an orphanage. He was always up to something as a urchin in the streets and was well known to the local law enforcement. But his path took a different turn when he killed a drunk that raped and murdered his childhood sweetheart. He snuck aboard a ship and left his home. During the voyage he was discovered and was only a few minutes from being tossed overboard when the ship was attacked by pirates. Qolo quickly turned to their side and helped the pirates get into the captains cabin. After that he was taken aboard the Crimson Countess as a mess boy. He quicky earned his keep and even though the Crimson Countess went missing after Qolo missed boarding it because he was dead drunk in a brothel at the time of departure he's never turned away from a life of crime and probably never will.

Name & Age = Augustus Lightshield - Age 19
Class - Cleric (Light domain)
Background - Variant Human (Acolyte)
Backstory Details:
I do not recall the world before I was nine. I simply remember opening my eyes and seeing the eyes of Lathandar. She taught me much of the beauty and chaos of nature before the fire consumed the forest, our home. I sought refuge within a temple of Amaunator while Lathandar tried to save what she could, but have not seen her since. The Brethren of the temple have treated me well these last 8 years, and further taught me the lessons of justice and light - as well as combat and the blessings of Amaunator. My connection to Amanautor's light is strong, and I reference his teachings frequently to bring his light to the world!
Name - Adem Sov , Age 24 Background - Urchin Class - Warlock Backstory - Bullet Points:
Orphan of Waterdeep, got taken in by a cult of the Raven Queen.
Cult figured they could contact the Raven Queen through a ritual that required a certain kind of artifact, sent Adem into a Mystran temple to steal one.
Adem found the artifact, made a pact with an entity through it, but then got caught by Knights of the Mystic Fire.
Got conscripted into the order so they could keep an eye on him.
Several years later now, he hasn't contacted the cult again, and he's somewhat earned the trust of the order.
Full Thing:
The streets of Waterdeep were home to Adem throughout his childhood, surviving on the generosity or naivety of others. He stole and begged his way through hungry nights and cold winters, finding refuge in temples when he could. In one such temple he found something resembling a permanent home, among a small religious sect that would likely be labeled a cult by most. In the beginning, he would do or say whatever they wanted without much thought so long as it gave him a warm place to stay and a meal. But in time, he became something of a true believer, revering the Raven Queen as his newfound family did.
At some point, the group fell into the belief that the Raven Queen would bless them, if only they could reach her. It was this folly that led to a planned burglary of a Mystran temple, rumored to have just the kind of artifact they required for such a ritual. Of all of them, Arryn was the best equipped for such a thieving, and so he was sent in alone.
Getting in was a doable task for him, it was getting the object that proved to be his downfall. As he placed his hands about the shard of smoky glass, he felt his soul called to elsewhere, falling into a hazy trance. An entity wreathed in shadow and raven feathers spoke to him, exchanging promises of power and eternal peace in return for service. As he pulled himself out of the vision, he was surrounded by Knights of the Mystic Fire. Some wished to throw him in a dungeon for the rest of his days, others would see him slayed on the spot. Owing to either a charitable or foolish member of the church, the final decision was much more lenient than either.
The artifact had never reacted before, in truth, the Church knew not exactly what it was, only guessing that it had potential for danger. Few believed he actually contacted the enigmatic Raven Queen, but rather something pretending at it. He would be granted a form of freedom, more or less conscripted into the order. For several years he was attached at the hip to another member of the order, but has recently been given a little more leeway. He is still expected to check in from time to time, but after nearly a decade without further developments from the artifact or the entity he contacted through it, the order is more relaxed towards him.
Race/class: High elf Fighter (planning on going samurai)
Background: Noble
Backstory: Sylas is the third and youngest Son to the second nobel house of of the elven kingdom, as such he was always spoiled much to the distaste of his older brothers. the older of his two brothers is next line to be head of the family and as such become the head of the military. His middle brother has been groomed to be the head of the embassy.
This leaves Sylas with out a prominent position, as each family is only given 2 position as to keep the balance equal. As such Sylas as always been the able to do as he pleases, often with little consequence. Tired of always being the out cast Sylas left home and decided to take on adventuring in hopes to win his family's approval.
Backstory Details: Reyn Brazzik used to live on the outskirts of Neverwinter. There she raised a family with her endearing husband Bran who has passed on 3 years past. Her 2 daughters Emel and Dresha are grown and have families of their own. Reyn enjoys cooking, but it felt hollow somehow cooking just for 1. She decided to get out of the house and go on a journey to Waterdeep. She hired on as a caravan cook and found herself smiling more seeing travelers of all shape and sizes enjoy her meals as they travel. She was a bit rusty, but being out in the wild reinvigorated her connection to nature. These days she still travels as a caravan cook and built up a bit of reputation for her home cooking.
Good day to you Sam! Might that small town north of Waterdeep be near the Westwood Forest? The fire which consumed my home also decimated the neighboring village of Kheldell.. If one and the same, perhaps you know of any other survivors?

Name: Theodoric of The IronHeart Age: 110 Race: Mountain Dwarf Background: Noble Backstory: Prince Theodoric is the first son of Lord Gundarr Greatshield and was first in line for the throne of the Ironheart, a powerful Dwarven settlement. He grew up as all nobles should, trained in in the lore of the dwarves and the ways of battle. As a young man barely of age, he witnessed a terrible calamity. The miners of the IronHeart unearthed a dreadful evil deep within the mountain. Savage creatures surged from the earth, slaughtering every dwarf they could find. With the Ironheart facing extermination, a desperate plan was hatched. The fort's vault held a relic of an ancient battle, an orb dripping with dark and demonic magics. It would turn anyone who touched it into a mindless, bloodthirsty berserker. The plan was to have members of the clan take in the power of this orb and seal them within the mine until the evil was destroyed. 50 dwarves volunteered, Theodoric the youngest of them. When they unsealed the mine, only seven survivors remained. But the curse had not finished its work yet. The berserker spirit carried on within the survivors, and soon the elders of the IronHeart decided it would not be safe for them to remain in the dwarven lands. Theodoric was removed from the line of succession, and he and the other six survivors were banished from the dwarven realm. Theodoric now roams the land, looking for a way to remove the berserker curse that rages within him.
