Hello, I'm looking for 2-3 more players for a PBP Call of the Netherdeep game. Right now I'm not looking for character sheets just broad characters ideas and a little about you to know if you're a right fit. The game is going to be LGBT+ friendly and help over Discord using the Avrae bot. Almost all the content you can wish for will be made available for you via campaign sharing. If you're interested in playing please leave a comment answering the following:
How long have you played D&D? How long have you done PBP? Have you played this adventure before? Do you or have you watched Critical Role? What do you enjoy most about D&D? What do you look for in a game? And then finally just a cool character concept/design/2-3 sentence backstory for what you think you would want to play?
I will close the recruitment on Thursday and send a DM here to those who have been chosen. I am looking for creativity and the ability to stay committed over anything else. I already have two players so I'm only looking for a couple more here. All other information is on the discord and will be given once I've made my choice. Thank you and Good Luck.
P.S. The other two are playing a Wizard and a Warlock so maybe stay away from those ;)
Hello looking to apply to the game. I have played dnd for over 10 years now an have done a few pbp games and enjoyed them. I have never played this adventure but love lovecraft type stuff. I have watched critical role and enjoy it. My personal favorite thing about dnd is the freedom it offers, you can tell your story your way. I personaly look for that freedom to be creative in a game.
I will be looking to play a kobold fighter named Verm. He was abandoned as a baby and found by a lone human woman who took him and raised him. His name comes from the other kids calling him vermin when he was growing up. He is extremely loyal to those who he considers his friends/family and fights to protect them.
How long have you played D&D?: Around 5 years, I’ve only ever been Dm apart from brief pbp on these forums. How long have you done PBP?: I’ve been in several although none have lasted more than a few weeks. Have you played this adventure before?: No I have not. I am aware that it takes place in Exandria and that it starts at level 3. But I have neither played in nor read the module. Do you or have you watched Critical Role?: I have watched around half of campaign two. I have also watched around 10 episodes from the other campaigns. I haven’t watched any for a couple of months though. What do you enjoy most about D&D?: Being able to immerse myself in the world in characters. I have not been able to be a player yet so I hope I am able to flesh out and roleplay a character. What do you look for in a game?: To play with kind and fun people who can work together to make a fun and enjoyable story.
My character idea is an Eladrin Druid from the Feywild who has found herself stranded on the material plane. She in roaming Exandria looking for a way home, or at least a home among the people of Exandria. I am thinking Wildfire for subclass but am happy to play moon if the party needs a meat shield.
How long have you played D&D? I have been playing since the late 1990s. How long have you done PBP? I've been doing PbP as my primary source of TTRPGs since roughly 2006. Have you played this adventure before? I have not! Do you or have you watched Critical Role? I do, I've watched most of S1 (somewhere around ep105 I think?), all of S2, and then currently caught up to ep17 on S3. What do you enjoy most about D&D? I enjoy the escapism of it mostly, it gives me the opportunity to leave behind this chaotic, messed up world and go to somewhere different and enjoy a great story with other individuals. What do you look for in a game? I enjoy telling new stories and a GM that is interested in trying to work character backstories into those stories when possible! And then finally just a cool character concept/design/2-3 sentence backstory for what you think you would want to play? I'm very interested in possibly playing a pallid elf druid (Circle of the Moon) who left behind the sanctity of the Pallid Grove with a group of likeminded elves after feeling a calling to explore in the early 800s. After several long decades of constant traveling and exploring, he makes his way towards the strange, twilight realm of the Krynn after hearing about the beautiful city of perpetual twilight in hopes of studying the strange constellations he has heard were visible within.
How long have you played D&D? Almost three years now. Exclusively as a player, mostly here on dndbeyond, have recently been really getting into Discord games with Avrae.
How long have you done PBP? I've been in a couple on ddb, though they all fell apart due to inactivity. Currently in a decent PBP server on Discord that is fairly active.
Have you played this adventure before? Nope.
Do you or have you watched Critical Role? Sorry, but no. I have considered it.
What do you enjoy most about D&D? Being able to insert myself into the position of my characters and reacting how they would most convincingly react. "I like dnd to be convincing, not realistic" is a quote I really like.
What do you look for in a game? In continuation to the last answer, I like a convincing story with flexibility around the players. While some plot armor is alright to keep the character alive early on, consequences for actions is something I adore watching play out, even on my own character. Finally, I love the ability to alter important things through roleplay, such as combat and even important scenes in the campaign.
And then finally just a cool character concept/design/2-3 sentence backstory for what you think you would want to play? I don't know too much about Netherdeep, as I don't have the module (or any big story module, for that matter), so here's what I have off the top of my head.
A leonin barbarian, Mavimus. In his life, he was taught by his father that fighting is the best way to bring honor to oneself. As a soldier employed by the nearby town, his words had some merit. Eventually, as Mavimus matured and his father grew old, Mavimus took over his father's position in the town. Unfortunately, at this time, the town was under siege by a bandit group, closer to a militia with the mysterious amount of military power they had. Mavimus, among a tiny handful of a mix of civilians and fellow soldiers, were the only survivors. They eventually split up to lead new lives, and the one Mavimus chose was a axe-for-hire.
Sorry if that is longer than necessary, I zone out sometimes if I get to writing like that. Some character art for Mavimus below in the link, not mine, though. Would put it in a spoiler, but I don't know how to do that for mobile.
How long have you played D&D? Started in late 80s, but took time off - playing (and DMing) 5E for past 2.5 years How long have you done PBP? 2.5 years Have you played this adventure before? No Do you or have you watched Critical Role? A fair chunk of C1, couple episodes of C2, no C3. What do you enjoy most about D&D? I love immersing myself in a character, trying to build an understanding of who they are and how they tick. What do you look for in a game? I look for a good balance of RP and combat - dislike it when there's little RP/character development.
Character Idea: Captain Thomas Drake, a water genasi privateer who has recently lost his ship to a mutiny, and has made his way back to port after being marooned, seething with an intent to muster funds and hunt down the mutineers. (Rogue, going Swashbuckler)
How long have you played D&D? 3-4 years. Roll 20, here and solo How long have you done PBP? 1 year. The campaigns did not get off the ground save for 1 Have you played this adventure before? No Do you or have you watched Critical Role? No What do you enjoy most about D&D? Reading other peoples posts and how they get so into their character with their descriptiveness. It amazes me What do you look for in a game? I would like to be part of a campaign that doesn’t die after just a few weeks
Character Idea: Strohm Shadowfoot, a wood elf Ranger on a quest to prove that he is a legitimate contender to lead the queen’s personal guard.
How long have you played D&D? I’ve been playing DnD for about 5 years. How long have you done PBP? Actually, I primarily play PBP - it works best with my schedule. I’m pretty flexible throughout the day. Have you played this adventure before? No
Do you or have you watched Critical Role? Yes, I’m a big fan. I’ve watched all of campaign 2 and am catching up on campaign 1 now.
What do you enjoy most about D&D? I enjoy the world creation and character development that happens. Especially between a group of strangers tied together through a common interest. What do you look for in a game? I enjoy a game with loot, magic items and story creation. Many times, I find my characters growing in ways I had never thought they would go.
Backstory for what you think you would want to play? I’ve been working on a dragonborn Paladin recently that I’d like to see come to fruition. Xarlog has pledged his oath of conquest in order to fight the forces of evil. His tribe felt the pain of loss at the hands of such demons and he will give his all to remove them from this world.
(if this character doesn’t fit, I’ve also got a young halfling beastmaster ranger that I’ve been thinking about. There is also the owlin bard that has promise as well )
How long have you played D&D? 2+ Years How long have you done PBP? 2+ Years Have you played this adventure before? Nope! Do you or have you watched Critical Role? I do watch Critical Role, but my memory for it is not great, so I doubt I'd remember anything from it. What do you enjoy most about D&D? The roleplay the building of a character. I personally am bad at creating in depth characters, but enjoying trying to build them. What do you look for in a game? An even mix of Exploration and Roleplay, with combat honestly taking a slight backseat. And then finally just a cool character concept/design/2-3 sentence backstory for what you think you would want to play? I'm thinking of possibly playing a Paladin, maybe Watchers or Vengeance. My character would have spent a life living with his mother, with his father a drunk and a gambler. One day, his mother was killed for a debt his father built up, but his father did not care, not even enough to show up to the funeral. After the funeral, he would of been drawn to a higher power, where he found himself part of a temple where he joins up with a group of Paladins, vowing to make sure that something like this doesn't happen to other children.
How long have you played D&D? 2 years How long have you done PBP? 1.5 years Have you played this adventure before? No Do you or have you watched Critical Role? A few episodes What do you enjoy most about D&D? How players shape the story through their actions or perhaps inaction. I like how there are consequence and some we can't take back. What do you look for in a game? A good blend of the 3 pillars of DnD and decent pacing And then finally just a cool character concept/design/2-3 sentence backstory for what you think you would want to play?
Kosha Frovica Sea Elf bard.
Kosha spent most of her life beneath the waves content to live as a refined lady of a noble clan. Her family's closest ally betrayed them causing her family to lose everything except their name. Instead of joining together the rest of her family fell into infighting for the few assets not taken away. She tried to reason with them to no avail. Soon after she left after taking her little brother Aletto to her Nursemaid Althea. To make ends meet she fell back to music and found how useful her fencing lessons were at times when ruffians accosted her. She was barely scraping by and decided to head to the lands above the waves. With trepidation Kosha steps onto an unknown shore.
How long have you played D&D? - 4-5 years, both online and in-person How long have you done PBP? - Not PBP specifically, but I have experience with forum/Discord roleplay Have you played this adventure before? - I have not! First time hearing about it, and it sound really interesting! Do you or have you watched Critical Role? - Most of the first campaign, and the beginning of the second, unfortunately haven't have the time to invest in all of it What do you enjoy most about D&D? - Creativity! I love seeing different characters, their interactions, and how their stories evolve and mix with the world What do you look for in a game? - Positivity, mostly! I love feeling like I'm hanging out with a group of friends, feeling like I can invest myself and my character in the world and with everyone else as well. And I love combat that makes me think, a good challenge is always appreciated! And then finally just a cool character concept/design/2-3 sentence backstory for what you think you would want to play? - Meet Mavrut the Redemption Paladin, an ex-criminal tiefling, who got in with a few gangs to line his pockets. One awful job later, he's the fall guy for everything, and the crimes catch up in an instant. While waiting for his eventual death sentence, he has time to reflect, and starts to even regret what he's done, but of course its far too late.
At the last moment, on the day of his execution, he was saved. A wandering Paladin, who has taken up residence in his city for the time heard his laments, and took pity on Mavrut, exercising a few favors here and there to free the young tiefling. Over the years, he is taught the beliefs of Erathis, how to mete out judgement, and how to help those that deserve it atone for their own sins, and since then, wanders the world, following Her guidance.
How long have you played D&D? Just started in my first campaign. Had session 0 earlier this week. I have done LARPing for over a decade though. How long have you done PBP? Um.... starting now? Have you played this adventure before? No Do you or have you watched Critical Role? 90% of C1, all of C2, catching up on C3 What do you enjoy most about D&D? I am really interested in creating a character and roleplaying them. My favorite thing about watching CR is their random interactions and seeing characters grow. What do you look for in a game? I'm not sure. Fun RP and cool people who are okay with me making mistakes.
Character Idea: Duergar - Fighter. Kima grew up In Urzin as a hunter for the wandering city. After talking to the Aurora Watch, she decided that she wanted to volunteer for the main front against the Empire. Leaving her home, she traveled to Asarius to fight for the Kryn Dynasty.
How long have you played D&D? I'd gotten into a couple games further in the past, but I've easily played 5e the most after playing it actively for 5+ years now. How long have you done PBP? I've tried PBP a couple times, but the games never seem to last long. I'm hoping a Discord game will work better. Have you played this adventure before? Nope. Do you or have you watched Critical Role? I haven't really watched, but I've seen some clips on youtube. Plus, I've been playing in a game set on the Menagerie Coast. What do you enjoy most about D&D? The stories that interactions of many people can create. What do you look for in a game? Fun character interaction, challenging combat, interesting stories.
And then finally just a cool character concept/design/2-3 sentence backstory for what you think you would want to play? Rolled on the Heroic Chronicle, and got this idea: Hobgoblin smith from Asarius who worked on war machines. On a random pub crawl, he impressed an archmage, and was taken to Rosohna to learn magic, which he managed to combine with his crafting skills to become an artificer. Now he plans to travel around looking for inspiration to build the greatest war machines to protect Xhorhas that he can.
I started in 2nd Ed, (AD&D) at secondary school, then had a 30 year break, getting back into 5e aroubd 2018. Though I am a huge fan of the various video game iterations, and have played the Bioware games many times over.
How long have you done PBP? Since i came back in abiut 2018H
ave you played this adventure before? No
Do you or have you watched Critical Role? Yes, I watch sporadically, inevitably unable to keep up with the hours of content they producr.
What do you enjoy most about D&D?. A mix of Combat and RP. I like seeing characters develop and seeing the personalities evolve as a group. How they interact with each other and the changes they go through from session 0. I also like hitting stuff and having meaningful combat encoubters, where it ties into the story and allows for out of the box thinking.
What do you look for in a game?. For everyone to be enjoying it. On PBP i like to see good, descriptive posts that give others information to work with
And then finally just a cool character concept/design/2-3 sentence backstory for what you think you would want to play?
I have been trying to play an Echo Knight for a long time. So i'd be looking at a multiclass build with Echo and a class with spell casting for added utility. I would need to flesh out the character more to build a backstory. If you have other characters set I can maybe tie in, or build separatley.
How long have you played D&D? Since I was 12, many decades ago. How long have you done PBP? I haven't! I'm looking to get into it. Have you played this adventure before? I have not. Do you or have you watched Critical Role? Yep. I've watched all of season 2, and much of 1 & 3 but not all. What do you enjoy most about D&D? The most? Tactical decision making. A close second is immersive story creation. D&D is one of, if not the best, fusion of the two imo. What do you look for in a game? Entertainment and camaraderie. And then finally just a cool character concept/design/2-3 sentence backstory for what you think you would want to play? I always play a support character, one who makes others shine. Ideally that'll be a spellcaster that can heal and buff/control. Obviously cleric is a good fit, but so too can a sorcerer, or druid, or even a bard.I tend to match my class/race/specific skill-set to the party needs.
I think for a backstory I'd wanna play character who had simply always known they'd wanna set out on the road, almost as a missionary, and dreamed of seeing more of the world than their little home village offered. No tragedy, no lost or killed family, no horrible emotionally scarred past, just a dreamy wide eyed idiot hellbent on seeing the world and doing good in it. We can save the tragedy for whatever shenanigans the campaign has in store for us...

How long have you played D&D? Just started in my first campaign. Had session 0 earlier this week. I have done LARPing for over a decade though.
How long have you done PBP? Um.... starting now?
Have you played this adventure before? No
Do you or have you watched Critical Role? 90% of C1, all of C2, catching up on C3
What do you enjoy most about D&D?
How long have you played D&D?
Bring out your inner chatacter class...
Bump for any last minute people. I will be sending messages out either late tonight for me or around Noon. Depending on how late I stay up
How long have you played D&D?
I got quotes!
Can we assume if we didn't get a message, that we didn't get in?
I don't have a signature.
Yes. Sorry. I have made my selections but thank you for the interest.
