You see a pile of golden coins heaped on the floor. On top of the gold rests a skull missing its lower jaw. In the right eye socket, a black spider has made a home. Several bones are piled with the coins, and the hilt of a broken sword thrusts up from the mass.
Aeliarin looks at the pile and detects a magic aura coming from it.
"Hello, Mr. Spider. May we speak with your master?" Fah'lin asks. He's starting to become overly suspicious. (If a Wizard appears now and claims this spider as his familiar Fah'lin may become irrevocably paranoid. It didn't smell like a fiend, but neither did Owly.)

Two possiblities, either the DM made a mistake or Owly is a fey (one of the options for Find Familiar). As the DM is never wrong Owly must be a fey.
And the spider does not reply or even react to your presence.
Fah'lin coughs and weazes as he is engulfed in a cloud of yellow spores.
(Was this triggered by taking the sword or prodding the spider?)
It's a pile of spores covered with an illusion of all that other stuff I described. You are now in deep shit
"succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or take 11 (2d10) poison damage and become poisoned for 1 minute. While poisoned in this way, the creature takes 5 (1d10) poison damage at the start of each of its turns. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a successful save."
Damage 13
Round 1
Damage 7 you make another save at the end of the round; anything else you or the others want to try?
"I may not be an expert on this magic stuff," says Thar somewhat sarcastically "but maybe next time we detect some magic we should take just a moment to see if we can determine what it is." Has the illusion of the pile been dispelled? And if so is anything left there other than spores?
(The above posts are in character, so I may be out of line, let me know if I am. I'm perfectly happy to not stand in front of every trap we encounter.
We enter a room. We note a trap or magic. What suggestions? "There's a trap or magic" What should we do? "There's a trap or magic" So I wait. Arya takes the lead.
If you guys would like me to wait till the rest of the party posts I will, even if this annoys our benevolent DM god. I get that poking every damn thing and opening every door we encounter isn't the best approach, but Fah'lin can't do a whole lot more, and he's the only member of this party I control.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Fah'lin casts Cure Wounds on himself, as he examines the walls of the dead end. (1 spell slot remains. I recover one on short rests, Perception: 17, Heal:8 to 20/38)

Is there anything remaining from the spore trap?
The spore trap has dispersed, the illusion remains but the spores are gone (for now). You search the walls of the dead end room and find a secret door (shocker!). Behind is a corridor (50' long) that runs to the east. As you move down the corridor you see at the end (40' away) that there is a mirror on the east wall and a door on the north wall.

Fah'lin prods the spider in its sockets with the end of his staff (for 5), shoving the skull from the pile.
He'll then pull the hilt from the mass and hand it to the sorcerer, attempting to differentiate the source of Aeliarin's interest.

14hp left
By the way your group does have a Potion of Vitality from way, way back.
With my other resources expended it seems the ideal time to use the potion.

The poison is cured. Please note that if you take a short rest anytime in the next 24 hours you get max hp from any hit dice spent.
Next time Aeliarin checks for magical auras, he will try to identify the school of magic.
