Thea suspects that maybe this chalice is missing some things from it that would make it fit the hole perfectly, as if some parts have been removed and need to be recovered.

Headed back into the room where the gelatinous cube was, there are the two passageways that flank the left and right walls. As previously mentioned they lead to corridors that turn after about 20 feet and run parallel with the corridor that had the adamantine door.
Just for a badly drawn ASCII map, the middle passage leads to the adamantine door, the way down is the way you came. (∩ being the doors)

Thea follows Fjorgin for reasons of safety. While walking, she will take another look at the chalice. Does it seem like the missing parts have been broken off the chalice, or like there is some sort of mechanism to attach them?
Fjorgin leads the group down the path to the right (for ease of sake, we'll call it the East Passage). Following around the corner, the passage continues onward and seems to descend down a set of stairs. When the group gets to the top of the staircase, they can see what appears to be torchlight at the bottom, some forty or so feet of stairs away.
Thea, if you want to make an investigation check with advantage as you have an idea about there is more to this chalice.
Thea investigates the chalice as they walk. It doesn't seem to have any broken parts to it, but there are a couple of small depressions on the side of the chalice, as if something clamps onto either side of the chalice's bowl.
Ragmin casts a light, as Pelor grants his miracles and the upper area of the staircase is illuminated.
Looking down the staircase, there is an obvious change in tidyness, as beyond the stairs is covered in dust and cobwebs, which cover the bottom of the passage with thick threads. It looks like the creepy crawlies have been down here for a long time.

Liavyre edges further down the stairs, seeing that the room ahead is almost completely covered in thick cobwebs. The white strands of spider silk are covering every yard of the room, making it look like an intricate net spread across to ensure nothing can walk through (well, unless they use methods to cut the cobwebs down).
Liavyre:
On the walls, you can see through the gaps of the cobwebs a mural that shows lush green pastures and wonderful forests, as if it were something that elves would dream of should they sleep.
She will say back up the stairs, "This place is completely covered with cobwebs, we have to get through them somehow. I hope no one is afraid of spiders...big ones."Satisfied that there are no immediate enemies, she motions them down.
(Is Liavyre able to inspect it without traversing the room? For instance is on a nearby wall or a far wall?)
If it's close enough for inspection,
Investigation 18
Either way, she thinks if she recalls any information related to the scene.
Investigation: The large amount of cobwebs conceal a lot. It's hard to see if there's anything beyond 10-15' with how many there are.
History: Beyond the tales that the world outside of Allhaven was a lush paradise, there isn't much that comes to mind.
Religion: The stories say that Asmodeus captured and consumed Lolth, which is what gave him control over the drow. As spiders are her symbol, this could be a symbolic visage of Asmodeus' reach over the material plane, covering the world in his thick web of demons, drow, and devils.
Insight: This place is unnerving. The mosaic shows natural environments while this area feels more like an underdark cavern with all the webs.
Nature: The mass amount of cobwebs might mean that there have been generations upon generations of small spiders down here, consuming their predecessors and building their webs atop those of the ones before them.
Liavyre is not wild about the idea, "Smoke in an enclosed space doesn't sound very safe...no air and no way to see.
This place is similar to the Underdark, so we would be announcing our presence to the spiders and any Drow who live here, as well. The idea is appreciated, but probably not in our best interests. We should probably just slash our way through or not use fire."
"But is that our best course of action? It might be safer to check out the other pathway first. There's no way of telling whether these webs are old or still inhabited. The other passage might turn out to be less dangerous. And i'll have to admit that i wont be much of a help in case we want to slash ourselfves through here."
"Now that is pretty convenient."
