Nodjeim eyes this warrior who so easily left his post and left the gate so open. This place relies too much on their skeletons and bull, he thinks to himself. But perhaps this is no warrior? Could it be this is the prince? Nodjeim tries to run through what little description of the prince he has to see if this could be him? His familiarity and kinship to the dog certainly suggests it could be...

“Prince Lir?” Nodjeim asks, unsure but pretty sure. He then looks to Lady Kaede, not for confirmation but more direction on how one should act around a prince. His people recognized no such titles so he was outside his comfort zone…

Ereni has been wrong more times than she can count, yet she feels certain that this man must be Prince Lir. More due to Joy's own reaction and obvious closeness to him than due to any physical "princely" appearance. Her face scarf hides a rare smile. Gone as quick as it came.
She salutes instead of bowing. "Your... highness? Prince Lir? You and Joy belong together. That she loves you is as clear as sunrise before battle. But if you love her back, why did we find her in the village just now, sick and starving? She told me..." (it does not occur to Ereni to explain exactly howJoy told her). "She told me she was thrown out of the castle by the King? That would be your... father? For chewing on skeleton bones. Which begins to get closer to our business here. All is not right in this seaside paradise of yours."
"Don't salute me." The man says as he strokes his dog, who seems very comfortable with her position. "And don't call me highness. It's Lir. Just Lir. This place doesn't look very Princely to you, does it?"
Lir raises as hand away from his dog long enough to arc it around as if to say 'look, and ye shall see'.
"My father is a fickle man." Lir says. He doesn't try to hide the shame in his voice. "My duty is to the regency, I'm afraid. Not to the things I love."
Lir looks around when she tells him all is not right.
"Nothing has been right within the borders of Hagsgate since my mother died three decades ago."
Ward moves over to face the Prince. "No considering the straw guards I would assume not. It seems you entirely rely on other means to secure your place, because I do not know what would stop an invading force from easily taking this keep. The peasants it rules over certainly don't seem very keen." Ward says to the prince.

Ereni's eyes hold heartfelt sympathy for Lir. "Too many of us have lost mothers. Aye, and fathers as well."
She says no more, relieved to have the others, likely more proficient than she at such things, carry on the conversation with the self-disavowed prince for the moment. Ereni glances at the dog again once more to make sure that Joy is still joyous. Then gazes east, closer now to the coastline with the shipwreck. Looking down from a height to try to discern anything she can about the vessel, including movement on or within its broken decks.
Upon completion of the Princes' story of losing his mother, Kaede bows her head ever so slightly, and adds "I understand more that you know, Prince, as I've also lost my mother, father, and six brothers. Where life is more terrible than death, it is then the truest valor to dare to live. I dare you, Prince, to live. Bring back the spirit and memory of your mother, represented in you and your actions."
Prince Lir’s comment about his duty echoes in Nodjeim’s ears and he is tempted to argue the point but holds off. The prince is already engaged with the others who are better with the word play and not all rulers believe their duty is to the ruled, it seems.
While the others engage the Prince, the Tiefling disengages. Taking a few steps away from the others Nodjeim casts his eyes around them. He looks back atop the walls to the straw men in case their be other hidden royalty about, and he looks around in general wanting to be sure he notices any approaching before they are upon them.

"It isn't just my suffering." Lir says. He stops here, casting his eyes down, then smiling and returning to petting the dog he had lost who-knows how long ago. "Nevermind. No tea for me, thank you for your hospitality though."
He stands, but he never stops rubbing the top of Joy's head, who does indeed look quite joyous for a dog who's been basically homeless.
"Noble samurai. I heard you speaking, I think, now that I've heard your voice more, as I came down from the wall. What was it you said then? And why are you all here?"
Scouts' habits die hard, and Ereni opens her mouth to drawl out her report on what she sees down over the cliff at the water's edge. A whole lot of nothing moving so far on the shipwreck that I can make out. Though could be I'd get a better look if we got closer. Or a seagull did...
She snaps her jaw shut in time, though, realizing that a more important exchange may be about to take place between Prince Lir... ah, that is to say, Lir, and some of the others in her own party such as Lady Kaede. Good one, Ereni. Why don't you tell them about the dirt under your fingernails too while you're at it. I'm sure they'd be thrilled to hear about it, like we all had to hear old Barnard complaining about the boils on his arse at breakfast in the mess hall.
Instead, Ereni rocks back on her heels and waits respectfully (only lounging around a little) to hear how the conversation plays out.
A flash of annoyance goes across her face, as she's not used to being rebuffed or ignored and having to repeat herself. The insolence of this so-called leader... But just as quickly as it appears, it disappears off of her face.
With all the charm she can proffer, for Prince Lir is a quite handsome man and Kaede is an equally striking young lady, she responds "It is I, Lady Kaede Ashikaga of the Shōgunate Ashikaga, rulers of Kings Landing. You shall address me as Lady Kaede. I am here to seek an audience with your Lord and Master, King Haggard. We are emissaries, wanting to discuss sightings of a mythical unicorn and a red bull. Are you, Prince Lir, aware of the validity of these sightings and could perhaps assist us in our endeavors?"
“I’m sorry,” Nodjeim says seen the flash of annoyance and not being able to help himself. “But does a Lady outrank a Prince?? These titles are new to me…” Nodjeim then goes back to pretending he’s barely interested in the niceties and is occupied watching their surroundings.

"Titles lost all meaning to me a long time ago." Lir says to Nodjeim while he rolls around Lady Kaede's words. His eyes cast down, and he thinks. "Thank you for your patience, Lady Kaede. An audience with my father? I..."
He looks over his shoulder at the shoddy keep. Another chunk of brick and mortar falls from the corner of a distance section of rampart.
"...the Bull."
Lir stiffens a little, his movements no longer the languid movements of someone who seems to lack the intensity they allegedly possess.
"The Red Bull is my father's pet. I've seen it, oh yes. And the unicorn...there are no unicorns here, save for ghosts of the unicorns the Red Bull has killed. You can see them in the evenings...leaping on the waves in the inlet...where the Bull has driven their spirits..."
He points a gauntleted hand at the Inlet of Sorrow.
"My vow is to the regency, my Lady. You must understand this. I think, perhaps, audience with my father, His Majesty King Haggard, could better serve you than I."
Ward takes a sip from the tea and looks up towards Lir. "Why do you have this duty my friend? Why do you defend it? You seem to grimace at your commitment almost. Why do you believe in it?" Ward asks Lir.

Kaede silently observes the knight who is playing with the dog, trying to determine if he’s a run-of-the-mill knight, or royalty (perhaps the Prince).
