Dabbert nods as the others suggest actions and voice concerns.
"I uh...yeah, not high on my to-do list either. But there may be clues to what we're up against here. Intelligence. You know that old quip about military intelligence. I can be the first to go over, if anyone is worried about it. Once we let Tick have a uh...look around."
Pike sets his small crew to rowing the Faranak toward the seemingly abandoned trireme. The eerie, square-shaped island, with its bizarre terrain of cubes of varying sizes, comes more closely into view as you near the drow vessel. Keeping a distance of roughly eighty or ninety feet between the two ships, Pike says, "Let's be quick about this, eh? Keep an eye on the shore, lads, as well as the dark water."
Metalhead is wholly unconcerned with the drow ship, but the monodrone motions toward the island with one of its spindly arms and announces, "Bad boss."
This announcement, however, appears not to be an alert regarding any activity ashore but rather the monodrone's commentary on the nature of the square-shaped island.
Marlin sends Tick aloft, and the tiny mechanical owl flaps its wings and circles the trireme, giving its wizard master a mental picture of the exposed main deck, which holds the ship’s two masts, a small forecastle and a slightly larger aftcastle, and two sets of stairs leading down open hatches into the decks below. The whole deck is strewn with the gory remnants of a battle: bloodstains, scattered weapons, some stained with a foul ichor, and piles of vomit-like liquid and bones. The bodies of twelve to fifteen drow lie strewn about. The prints of huge frog-like creatures cover the deck. Between the central hatch and the port rail, the ship’s fungus-wood timbers are damaged and streaked with slime. As previously noted by Dabbert, this suggests that something large and heavy slid across the deck and smashed through the rail before leaving, or falling from, the ship.
Tick, from its aerial viewpoint, cannot see what is within the forcastle and aftcastle; nor can it gain any view of the next deck below, which is clearly the rowers' deck.
Marlin reports what Tick witnesses, as well as the shape that he sees below the water. "Evidence of frog-things on board, and large shapes below the water... be ready for trouble, everyone. I suspect that 'Big Wet Enemy' is somewhere about here."
He pulls the stopwatch from his pocket, revealing that its chain connects to the device he wears on his back. The stopwatch itself is unusual, with far more hands than are appropriate for an ordinary watch. Some of them go forward, some of them go backward, some of them go... up? The number of dials and buttons is mind-boggling, and there are certainly far more gears and spinny bits than are necessary. Marlin pulls on a knob and spins it while muttering some words, and the hands begin to spin rapidly. A low hum emerges from the watch, and Marlin's body begins to waver. He leaves behind a slight afterimage whenever he moves, and its almost as if there are multiple Marlins standing in the same space.
He then points the watch at the water, and rotates a couple knobs. The device on his back spins into motion, lightning crackling between the orbs in the orrery, and the chime of a grandfather clock sounds. The glass on the watch's face pops open, and one of the many hands begins to glow with orange fire.

Gwin's brow has been wrinkled as if pondering a mystery. Suddenly her face lights up.
Friends! I've figured out what that smell is coming from the water: cassia, natron, and bitumen. It's been a while since that particular scent has been in my nostrils, but that is no doubt the same combination of ingredients used to mummify the dead during some culture's last rites ceremonies.

The moment Gwin concludes her announcement, Metalhead says, "Three wet enemy."
No interpretation is needed, for on the aft of the Faranak stand three amphibian-like fiends, their grotesque bodies dripping inky black water onto the deck. Their appearance is so abrupt, you surmise they arrived by teleportation.
Despite arriving so suddenly, the five of you are far too wary to be caught off guard.
Korba and Marlin:
Both of you recognize these creatures as belonging to a family of fiends known as yugoloths. Yugoloths take a variety of forms and are known for being the mercenaries of the Lower Planes.
All players may act in any order. Tick will then follow. The fiends will act last. Using the map below, be specific about any movement your character makes. *NOTE: the above initiative rolls for the party reflect incorrect bonuses; I've adjusted them (on paper), but the party will still act first.
(If the prepared spell applies in this situation) Prepared fire bolt: 18 Damage: 27 fire damage
Marlin's watch shoots out a small blast of flame from one of its hands, sailing at one of the beasts. He looks at the clock face, brow knit, and flicks the glass a couple of times. He twists a knob, and the watch's hands spin once again, much faster this time. This time all of the hands of the watch light up with flame, and they whir faster and faster, rotating clockwise, counterclockwise, intraclockwise, partialclockwise, wiseclock, and a number of similar impossible directions, before a tiny spark emerges from the clock. It bounces across the deck of the ship before leaping up to the yugoloths and exploding into a great burst of flame!
(Casting fireball, DC 19 Dex Save or 31 fire damage. 20 ft. radius should hit them all.)

Large blisters can be seen on each creature, indicating their susceptibility to being wounded by heat.

Dabbert turns when he hears 'three wet enemies' and looks at the weird frog things on the back of the ship.
"I uh...huh. Guess that explains the frog footprints Tick saw."
Using Dash, Dabbert'smovement for this round is 80 feet.
He doesn't hesitate. Dab rushes forward, quick on his feet, sprinting up the stairs as to his right. He's already reaching for is halberd as he comes to the top of the stairs and drives it at the first creature as he moves past it, maneuvering his body expertly as he goes to avoid an attacks it could try to give back to him.

Attack: 7 Damage: 9
Owning his position, he looks ready to attack as soon as any of them move toward him and present the opportunity...
If the creatures move toward Dabbert, they will trigger the following Opportunity Attack in Reaction.
Moments later, Dabbert stands among the fiends on the rear of the ship, his halberd having cut deeply into two of them. Bloody ichor begins to run from their open gashes.
Gwin, Korba, and Rogi may act (in any order). All three fiends are wounded: fiend 1 severely, fiends 2 and 3 moderately. NOTE: Dabbert stands on the aft deck with the fiends; so any attack with an area of effect may affect him.
Hearing the report from the owl of death and monster tracks aboard the ship, Korba would first feel the need for his weapon in hand. Holding his fist out a small whirlwind of sand appears shooting forward about a meter, fading as the sand drops to the deck of their ship, a greatsword now in his grip. Giving it a quick swing to shake off the rest of the dust from the blade, Korba is now ready to join the others on the deck of the Drow ship, curious to see what he'll find.
On board as they begin to look around, the beasts appear on the higher deck, and immediately fire and pain catches them from his companions. Korba runs forward towards them, but does not have quite the speed of his martial friend. As he runs he grips the blade tightly in his hand and, hearing that they are susceptible to fire, grins as his blade itself bursts into flame. As the bright light sheds from it however, it is immediately dimmed as another storm of sand surrounds him, hiding his form entirely, but additionally casting dust around him dimming even the light from his blade.
hoping I can bring my sword out before boarding, as I said in OOC action - shadow of moil bonus action - flame on! for me sword :D movement - 30 ft towards them (I'm not sure how you count diagonals... 5,5,5 or 5,10,5?), heading to the starboard side as he moves towards the stern of the ship.
The cleric rushes forward 30 feet, wrinkling her nose. Ugh, I don't like slimy.
Mashing her hands together as if making a paper ball, radiant light begins to emanate from Gwin's hands as she pushes them out away from her body. A flash of radiance screams toward fiend #2.
As soon as the light leaves the dwarf's fingers, she hastily pulls out a small, silver mirror from her cloak. She whispers the word Sanctuary as her eyes fall on Dabbert. In an instant, the fighter feels a wave of protection fall over him. (If Dabbert is centered in front of the fiends, Gwin should be able to reach him).
(Fun fact, Korba is now unable to be blessed since I'd have to see him to target him, otherwise I would not bother blessing myself)
Rogi nearly took off after his friend but then realized they may be facing only the first wave of the enemies. He shouts, "I'll cover the nose!" and takes position facing the front but keeping his eyes open for enemies from the sides as well. Once more he raised the holy symbol on high, calling for a different kind of blessing for his friends. That done, he readied his sword and put his shield squarely in front, ready to defend himself and others.
Capsizing rolls (d100). The Faranak capsizes on a roll of 1 - 25
1st wave: 52
2nd wave (if necessary): 56
3rd wave (if necessary): 87
Korba, with flaming blade in hand, charges toward the fiends, giving himself a front row seat to the blast of radiance that shoots forth from Gwin and strikes the center fiend. Rogi blesses some of the team and then moves toward the bow, looking for another potential foe. For now it seems the only threat to the party is the three fiends at the stern.
The fiend directly before Dabbert utters something unintelligible to the party, presumably conveying something to its fellow demons in the Abyssal tongue. Moments later, all three fiendish voices can be heard. They are not speaking in unison, but they do have the same fell intent. From the starboard side of the Faranak a wall of water--the dark, silty water--rises to a height of approximately 20' and crashes violently onto the ship. Moments later, a second wave from the port side does the same. Yet again, a third massive wall of black water thunders onto the ship's deck.
Miraculously, the Faranak doesn't capsize, but the scene around you is mayhem nonetheless. Gear is washed overboard, members of the crew are knocked prone and screaming in terror, and the ship is rocking violently from side to side as the seawater roils beneath it.
The three fiends apparently dove overboard during the deluge, and your efforts to avoid the mysterious black water have been frustrated...
For everyone:
Everyone must make three DC 15 Athletics checks (one for each wave). If any of the rolls is unsuccessful, your character has been washed overboard.
Everyone except Rogi must make one DC 15 INT saving throw versus the effects of the dark water (whether or not your character has been washed overboard). NOTE: Marlin and Gwin can utilize the bless provided by Rogi for this save.
You may roll here and then edit your post or you may roll in the out-of-character thread. Either way, in your next post be sure to roleplay what your character does next, noting that combat has ended. If you fail the INT saving throw, I will explain what that means soon.
When faced with the certainly magical walls of water, Rogi put his back against the nearest mast and held on, trying to present as narrow a target as he could. With that, he easily managed to resist the deluge. He even had time to think sarcastically, Shall we fly to the island? Shall we avoid the ship that has nothing to do with our mission? Nah...
As soon as it was over, though, his first priority was to ensure everyone was alright and begin to rescue those who didn't manage to stay on deck. He stuck his hand into his bag of holding and withdrew his rope, unwinding it as he looked around...

The fiend directly in front of him caught his focus first as the halberd reached for it twice...
...before he whirled away, moving back to the right, bringing into focus the creature that looked the most hurt.
Dabbert's feet move like he is dancing. He steps lithely back across the deck, jamming the butt of his halberd at centermost creature as he goes...
...before stepping into his halberd's lethal arc for the third creature. He drives the halberd forward, retracts, and swipes at the creature again before dancing back to the center of the platform to keep them all within his area of control.
Suddenly he realizes he's on the upper deck dancing with himself, looking really cool as he kills the hell out of enemies that are no longer there.
Korba, perhaps too excited to combat these beasts, is caught completely off guard by the waves and quickly looses his balance and swept overboard into the murky waters below.
