Kaltent: You do not see any of your allies as you make your way to the north gate.
Jah'nun: Vosnin can be found asleep in his room.
Zack: It is possible Cavyre was taken by surprise, someone trying to escape would wait for an opportune moment. And you reason it's not a matter of where on Raxor's body he was hiding a weapon but whether he was skilled enough to hide it from a search. There is not much to suggest a big fight, whatever happened, happened quickly.
Arriving at the north gate, Kaltent looks around, unsure how he is supposed to be receiving the map from his patron. If nothing happens after a few minutes, he looks for an out of the way spot to meditate.
Zack seems to have a very minor insight he checks the way the blood flowed from Cavyre's wounds and then looks at Raxor's arms and hands.
If Raxor attacked Cavyre, there should be some blood on his hands right? Did he throw the weapon? If so, where was Watl during all this? If he was talking with Cavyre facing Raxor, he would have noticed the escapee. If he and Cavyre both turned away, the wound would be in the back of Cavyre's head. If he attacked him suddenly, he should have blood on his arms, forearms and hands.
Jah'nun pauses, her hand on the door latch to Vosnin's room. She remembers, with a twinge of embarrassment, how she briefly claimed that Vosnin's room was her room in order to trick that city guard. I hope none of the others actually thought I share a room with old Vos. (Is there any sign remaining of the mark that Kaltent left on the door?) Either way, she enters, looking for the Dwarf, thinking to offer to share his watch over the prisoner soon. Stupid idea, keeping that half elf alive. We should have just shanked him and been rid of him. She wisely keeps her distance from the sleeping Vosnin. Using Prestidigitation, she causes a slight foul smelling puff of air to press against his face briefly in order to wake him.
(I'm assuming that I saw Vosnin's key at some point and can recreate it with Prestidigitation for six seconds in order to open the door.)
Kaltent: As you approach the north gate you see a cloaked figure nearby, occasionally stomping their feet to keep warm and blowing into their cupped hands to keep them warm. He spots you and nods in your direction, waving you over with one hand. "You're late," he looks at your face but his remains hidden by the hood of the cloak, "or I'm early, either way lets just get this over with. Do you have the gold?" He notices your hesitance and states, "The price is three gold." He draws out a small scroll from inside his cloak, but waits for his payment before handing it over.
Zack: Everything appears to fit with what Watl said. If Raxor got the drop on them he would go for Cavyre first knowing he can summon those shadow hounds and overlooking how much of a threat the halfling really was. Raxor probably threw his weapon at Cavyre and left himself open to Watl's counterattack. The only odd thing is a footprint in the blood near Raxor, it is roughly human size. If Raxor killed Cavyre it can't be Cavyre's, and Raxor couldn't walk through his own pool of blood. It's definitely not Watl's, so who does it belong to? Was someone here recently, after Watl left the room but before you returned?
Jah'nun: The message has since faded but you are able to produce a temporary key to gain entry into Vosnin's room. As you prepare to awaken Vosnin your mind wanders and you can't help thinking of the dream you had earlier. Perhaps the halfling who became a dwarf and then a gnome was a warlock who could use the Mask of Many Faces. The pie probably represented something that belonged to you. Ah, who knows what dreams really mean anyway. Your thoughts jump back to the present as you wake Vosnin from his slumber.
I briefly wake up from the odor, but quickly brush it off as something foul I’ve eaten at one of these lass than superb taverns. I catch a glimpse of someone before closing my eyes again. I reach up and grab a dagger from under my pillow before jumping up from my bed. I then lower the dagger. “Long time no see mate.” I come to ease and sit on the bed.
Casting dim Light on the tip of my finger, I smile at my friend's quick response. "Nice reflexes." Then, as the memory of my dream troubles my thoughts again, I ask, "You wouldn't happen to have any paper or a quill and ink, would you?" If Vos doesn't have any, I'll ask the innkeeper downstairs. I'd like to sketch the faces from my dream before I forget them. I also tell Vosnin that I'd like to join him when he heads out to take the next watch over the prisoner because, "I just don't trust that scum." And I'm not just referring to Raxor...
”ink and Quill isn’t much my forte, so no, I’m afraid not.” I listen as the sarcasm drips from Jah’nuns words. “Which scum are you talking of? There’s a few in the group that could be mentioned. We could probably head there now to take the watch over.’
Zack looks at the chair and the footprint. A witness perhaps? I wonder who could've been here.
Since Kaltent literally disappeared while Zack was interrogating Raxor, does he remember not seeing Kaltent and think he might know something? INT: 20
Regardless of whether he remembers or not, Zack shakes his head, unable to find any further clues. He decides to shift the investigation to some questioning. He walks over to Watl (if he's there) and say, "So, can you tell me exactly what happened? How did Raxor get the drop on you?"
"Yeah. He hopped up all at once and threw the knife right ar Cavyre. I guess he didn't expect these little legs to be as quick as they were, because I got to him before he could even turn around. I took the knife out and tried to save the kid, but he was gone. I was honestly thinking of getting rid of him myself after that demon dog stunt he pulled, but I prefer poison," the halfling explained. "Regardless, it's been a long night and I need some rest. I'm heading back to the inn. We can fill the others in later."
Zack walks over to the foot print after Watl has left. He steps on the footprint and smudges it out. He then begins his watch with Jianyu. He tries to look rattled and sad at Cavye's death.

Shaking her head at Vosnin's question, Jah'nun admits, "Maybe it's just my experience with the city guard, my time as a bounty hunter, or my mom's cynicism influencing me, but I find myself mistrusting every word out of that overweening halfling's scheming mouth." She dismisses the light when Vos is ready to go and heads downstairs to ask the innkeep for paper and ink or maybe charcoal, finishing her thought as they head downstairs. "I fear we may be letting the fox guard the hen house." Whether or not she finds what she seeks from the innkeeper, she'll head back to the sewers, keeping an eye out for the other members of the team along the way. (Perception: 11) or (Passive Perception:15)
Jianyu, sees little reason to hang out in the sewers with no one to keep watch over. He jerks his head toward the door, encouraging Zack to join him as he takes his leave.
Kaltent: You acquire the scroll and it is a small map. One side leads to some building just off of the marketplace and the other side appears to be the rooms and hallways within that building.
Jah'nun: You are able to get a spare piece of parchment from Grunder and borrow his quill. As you are making your way back to the sewer, you see Watl heading your way, covered in blood.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Saying nothing verbally, but everything visually, Jah'nun stops at the sight of the blood soaked halfling and raises her crossbow. She'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but keep her weapon readied. An expression of mistrust and disgust is writ large upon her face. (After hearing whatever Watl says, Insight check: 22)
Kaltent studies the map, then follows it to the building indicated. He examines the map of the interior more once he gets there, before trying to enter.
