"Sure, It's abnormally heavy. Just make sure you only touch the cloth and not the disc. Otherwise, you will fall into an otherworldly trance. This is a strange disc. You don't have to worry about breaking it though, it isn't fragile."
Rain's eyes get wide as he takes the disc, being careful to make sure that he's only touching the cloth.
"Yes, guard the guard well guarded, he needs a guard for guarding." Rolan says in a not at all redundant way.
Rain tilts his head as he looks toward Rolan. Rain doesn't always get human humor, but he wonders whether Rolan hit his head during the attack.
Looking back into the room, he says: "OK, Saralyn. I will go with Rolan to the king and tell him about the guard. Ghurk, I think that you should stay here in case there's another attack on the castle. Keep them safe, and I'll hurry back. Signal once if you need help right away. Twice if there's danger nearby." Then he opens his mouth and make two odd, high-pitched chirps that you've never heard Rain make before. (OOC: reference https://youtu.be/Sq2tjHIess4)
Then to Rolan, "Lead the way, sir." While he follows Rolan, when Rolan's back is to him, Rain tries to feel the shape and texture of the thing that he's carrying. He's careful to touch only the cloth, but can he feel anything through the cloth? Is it hard or squishy? Smooth like metal? Or bumpy like rock? If he tilts it a little side-to-side, does it feel like a solid object or like a container with water moving around inside?
While Rain is a ranger of the desert and the far-reaching savanna to the south, he did visit a port city once with the caravan. The word that the guard had said, harpoon, reminded him of that city. The humid, salty air. The tall ships that looked like great tents, gliding over the water, and the rough men who worked on them. The bazaars of that city traded in things that he had never seen before. Great fish and slimy creatures with many limbs, like wet, hairless tails. And shells! Shells of many colors and sizes...

(OOC: Heh. Yes, but with only 3 party members, I'm not sure whether the DM wants to take Rain out of the action until you two can find someone to cast a spell to revive him. Good to see you back, Dragonlouis.)
The disc is perfectly smooth, like metal. It appears to be 3 inches tall in the middle but slowly gets thinner, so the end is like a blade.
Rolan walks down the stairs into the throne room. He goes next to the door of the king's room, then says "Follow me." He first enters through the door to the king's room into a long brick hallway with a door at the end. He makes sure Rain gets in before closing the door behind them. He then goes to the end of the hallway, opens that door (which leads to the throne room) then goes back to the door they came from and opens it. This time, the door leads to the hallway they are in instead of the throne room. He walks through then closes that door, then reopens it, and this time it's another room. "Yeah, this room is very confusing. Unless you do it exactly, you'll just end up where you started." He entered the new room, which was made of grey brick and looked like a dungeon, with many hallways in other directions. "King, we wish to speak with you. You have the intruder?" The king came slowly from the left, along with 2 guards both holding onto a man with blond hair and grey assassin clothes. "I'm surprised you brought it, Rolan," The man sat down on the floor. "May I take the disc, Rain?" Rolan asked with his hands outstretched.
The guard is laying on the bed motionlessly. The sun has now set, and the room is lit only by lamps. You hear talking outside the window, sounds like goblins.

"I see! Powerful magic," nodding while looking around, but mostly just trying to memorize the process Rolan used to get here. "It is too bad that you cannot use this magic to prevent goblins and other intruders from getting into the castle in the first place!"
"King, we wish to speak with you. You have the intruder?" The king came slowly from the left, along with 2 guards both holding onto a man with blond hair and grey assassin clothes. "I'm surprised you brought it, Rolan,"
(OOC: who said that to Rolan? The king or the other man?)
Rain is wishing that he had brought Ghurk and Saralyn. He looks at the guards, the king, and then man quickly. Is it just the speed of events since this morning, or does something seem off here? (Perception10) The guard upstairs said something about the man's clothes not being suitable for the desert. Does that seem true?
It looked like the intruder left out the window of rom 1 upstairs, and Rain didn't see anyone bringing him back into the castle earlier when he looked outside. Does it make sense that the man was apprehended after Rain finished looking out the windows upstairs and before he and Rolan came back downstairs just now? (Rain is trying to put the pieces together: Investigation7)
The man sat down on the floor. "May I take the disc, Rain?" Rolan asked with his hands outstretched.
"What are you going to do with it? Is that the man who attacked you?", Rain asks. He does not fight Rolan, but he tries to look past Rolan to the king, questioningly, before handing the bundle over to Rolan.
Rain tries to act surprised (Deception7) to see the throne room again. "Wha--? How?"
(Thankfully, the fight with the goblins went well, but all of these dice rolls since then. Oof! Rain isn't even making over the easy DC on many of them.)
Clarification: "King, we wish to speak with you. You have the intruder?" Rolan says to the king. The king came slowly from the left, along with 2 guards both holding onto a man with blond hair and grey assassin clothes. "I'm surprised you brought it, Rolan," The intruder that is captured says to Rolan.
Yes, the guard was right. This man has dark clothes that are not at all thin, not meant for this climate. He looks tired as if he quickly fled the garden but was quickly captured and brought here right before you arrived.
"I'm going to show the disc to Raidan and use it. I'm going to settle an old dispute." Rolan says quietly. The intruder, whose name I guess is Raiden, laughs to himself. "And will you show me everything?" He asks. "Only what is needed. 4 seconds, then you'll leave?" Raiden smiles. "You owe me more than that. 6 seconds, then I'll leave. And really, you owe me 7 or 8." Rolan looks back at Rain. "May I take the disc? And fine, you'll have it 6 seconds, no more."

Rain hands over the disc to Rolan, looking intently at Rolan and saying, "Be careful."
Then Rain steps away and toward the king. He says, "King, one of the guards was injured in the attack upstairs. Saralyn was able to save his life, but he wanted to report back to you. Could you send someone and have the other Defenders bring him here for you? They do not know the way through the magical path from the throne room to here."
The guard is laying on the bed motionlessly. The sun has now set, and the room is lit only by lamps. You hear talking outside the window, sounds like goblins.
Like goblins?!? I go and look out the window. If it is goblins, I'll send my ghosts after them, assigning each a different goblin (if there are at least three; if not I spread out the attacks among the two or one)

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Wow, ok. Both are taken. One did manage to quickly fire at you with his bow dealing 8, but with only one second to shoot, only if this is a 6 he hits you: 1
The king looks at Rain. "I'll see him in the morning, I guess. Or maybe right after this." The king says. Rolan sets down the disc, then pulls off the cloth. The disc is made of white crystal with ornate eyelike designs. "You get 6 seconds, Raiden. And then you leave." Rolan says firmly. Raiden puts his hand over the disc and it begins to ripple. After 6 seconds, Rolan pulls Raidens hand off the disc. "Very well, I see it." Raiden stands up. "Then I'm done here. Have a nice life of lies, Rolan." Rolan stands up and opens the door, which opens straight to the throne room.
Raiden puts his hand over the disc and it begins to ripple. After 6 seconds, Rolan pulls Raidens hand off the disc.
(OOC: clarification...was Raiden's hand touching the disc or just hovering over the disc? And when the disc "rippled", do you mean the whole disc, like a flag in the wind? Or just the surface of the disc, like the surface of a pool of water?)
No, it was over the disc. The surface rippled like a pool of water.
Okay, everyone. Since we need more party members, but at this point its kind of too late to find new players, you can be a second character if you want to.
Interesting... I'll let you know what I want to play by tomorrow.
(OOC: I had raised the idea of multiple characters per player back when Liara and Tokka dropped out. I'm worried that Rain and Ghurk bring very little magic to the table. Rain will get some spellcasting at level 2, but that'll be Hunter's Mark and maybe Goodberry. That's basically a DPR buff for Rain's attacks and a small amount of healing for the party. Depending on what's ahead, I was concerned with size of the party and the current melee focus of the characters. A smaller party would also force the DM to tweak all encounters since the monster CR seems to be based on a party of 5. A CR 1 encounter could be a stiff challenge for a party of only three level 1 characters.
If we go with 2-characters per player, that gets us a party of six. Rain is a pretty decent mix of stealth and front-line melee. Depending on what everyone else wants to do, I was hoping to add a sorcerer or wizard. I'm not in any other PbP campaigns, so I had some spare time to build some extra characters. Here's a version of the aberrant mind sorcerer: https://ddb.ac/characters/94085482/TTs2Lc. He's built to be a face character and an all-around spellcaster with a mix of control, utility, and damage spells. Note: he's very squishy, so he would be hanging back 60 ft. from any melee and throwing spells or using a crossbow. His background brings proficiency with Thieves' Tools if we need that.
But if someone wants to play a bard or something, I'm flexible. I have a wizard build that I could switch to. The wizard has a similar spell coverage but focuses his proficiencies on INT-focused skills, like Arcana, History, and Religion. The wizard is definitely not a party face character.)
So, Ghurk is good as a really strong character, and Rain is a goof mix of stealth and fighting. Saralyn adds good unique magic to the team with her soul powers. We could probably use a magic user of some sort, or maybe two since Saralyn doesn't seem to do that much magic other than soul control. If we would add another fighter, maybe something like a Paladin or Blood Hunter to add uniqueness to the fighting. Those are just my thoughts. Or we could add something like a bard or cleric as that is also a unique add to the team, and they can do some magic along with other things.
Rain's eyes get wide as he takes the disc, being careful to make sure that he's only touching the cloth.
