Otto admires the cloak in his hands, running his fingers along the shiny blue filigree on the inner lining, and for a moment his eyes drift away and into a 1000-yard stare. But he soon snaps out of it, and sweeps the garment over his shoulders, affixing it around his neck and over his pauldrons. "Heck, this is gorgeous Nib, thank you good sir."
He then thinks to his allies, "Anyone have a way to identify what these things do, or are we just going to gamble that they will be helpful and not, ya know, going to saddle us with some sort of lifelong curse."
After another flurry of knitting Val's cloak is done as well. "I hope in some way you can deal with Granny Nightshade. Well, I believe everyone has gotten one of my gifts. I hope they are to your liking." he then begins turning the piled gold in golden threads.
"Yes, thank you, they are very nice!," Valrieth says as she puts on the cloak. "Nib, it sounds like you have met Granny Nightshade, and we're heading toward her home, Loomlurch. If you want to see her driven out of Thither, is there anything you could tell us about her that might help us in our dealings with her? Anything we should know before we meet her?"
He then thinks to his allies, "Anyone have a way to identify what these things do, or are we just going to gamble that they will be helpful and not, ya know, going to saddle us with some sort of lifelong curse."
Val thinks, "I don't think we need to worry. My intuition says that the items are safe."
Once they leave Nib's cave and start heading north toward Loomlurch, Val explains further so that the whole group can hear: "You expressed some concern about Nib and his gifts, Otto, but I feel that Nib is trustworthy. The evil fey whom Finley and I have met generally felt different: evasive, untrustworthy, scary, or all three! Sometimes, some of the fey here in Prismeer have acted odd but turned out to be fine -- like Tsu Harabax. Others, like King Gullop XIX in Downfall, tried to act kind and polite, but they were clearly hiding something or scheming in some way. I'm sure that there must be some charming and deceitful fey, but Nib just seemed like a sad old man, trying to make amends for his evil deeds."
Val draws the green cloak around her and feels the fabric. She says, "I guess we'll find out whether the items he gave us are magical and what they do once we spend more time with them, but I don't think that we need to worry that they're cursed."
"mine are magical, if of a slightly sinister purpose" he seems to have absolutely no problem with the fact he just mentioned "ill put them to good use, especially as stealing into places is useful to adventurers, not to mention they look wonderful" he grins, pulling the long gloves on, and resettling his sleeves around them, then comments "i didnt like those ghosts, feels like there was something we coulda done about them"

This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?

Just before reaching the exterior, he stops and turns. "Last thing, mister Nib, any advice on what we should expect on the road to. This place is rather new to all of us and if we could avoid treacherous places, it will be great" he adds with a large smile.

Valrieth gives Ilifir a considering look and says, "Maybe you have more experience with fey magic. It sometimes seems to follow its own rules, and I wouldn't want to guess at what to do! Finley and I have mostly been offering to help where we can, but we let the people we meet guide us. They should accept our help, and they either need to tell us how to help or let us know what they need, like Clapperclaw wanted his old head back. Nib only asked us to get Granny Nightshade out of Thither, and I think that we'll eventually do that if we're successful with Lady Z."
Val says, "And I'm not sure there's a way to get rid of Nib's 'ghosts.' Perhaps they were just manifestations of his guilty conscience. Maybe they'll vanish once he has finished making amends?"
(OCC: I think that the party has left Nib's place now and are heading north.)
"Beware of the fey as thy are tricksters and beware of fey bargains." says Nib to Lerak as everyone leaves his cave.
The party heads north once more and runs into Clapperclaw by the balloon. He as the balloon firmly anchored and looks to the party "Well were you able to find Nib?"

Valrieth says, "Yes! Thank you for suggesting that we visit him, Clapperclaw. I feel sorry for Nib, but he was generous enough to spin his gold into these nice cloaks for us." She holds her cloak out and turns around for Clapperclaw to see. "But now we must head north. Do you have any advice about how to find Loomlurch?"
"No, I do not as I try to stay away from such a place. I only lingered in Downfall because I lost my head. It was a hag that turned me into what you see before you and I am not keen to visiting another hag. I will stay here guarding the balloon." says Clapperclaw.
Valrieth asks, "Where should we go next? It sounds like we could reach Loomlurch by just walking north. But it looked like there was a river cutting through Thither. If we head northeast, we'd hit the river sooner. Then we could follow the river to Loomlurch. The river is probably the longer route, but if we could find boats, it might be faster than hiking the whole way through the forest."
Lerak tries to remember all the different indication he had received . “I agree, it seems that time is of the essence. Let’s go north and check this river, hoping it flows toward the hag village. We might stumble on these pools on the way.”

(OOC: Oops! I forgot to mention...)
Valrieth also lets the party know that, now that Finley got her tarot cards, she has prepared a divination spell that could give her a hint about the future. Of course, that spell has specific constraints, which she explains as well as she can. Especially today, when they still don't know much about Thither, that spell may be able to help them if they have an important question about their next course of action, such as whether to try befriending some Fey creature they meet.
"Well I would never tell someone else how to spend their daily resources," Otto says, his focus still locked on his new cloak, "but heck if it'll help us to know whether one path versus another holds a better fortune, seems like a worthwhile endeavor in a pebble-brained place like this."
Otto speaks the words without meeting Val's eyes--or anyone's in the party--as he instead traces the inlaid patterns on his cloak with his finger.
"but heck if it'll help us to know whether one path versus another holds a better fortune
"Oh," Valrieth says, "I just meant, in general." She can't tell whether Otto is even paying attention to her, but she tries to correct him as gently as possible, "I don't think that it would really help with this decision. Divination -- I mean real divination -- mostly helps with decisions that have short-term consequences. You see, each decision affects the next. So, it would have been easy to ask whether to approach Nim's cave. But the result of choosing a path today probably won't be clear until tomorrow or the next day, and it would depend on many other decisions."
The forest is indeed grand as the party travels through the forest. It is during the late afternoon that the party finds a clearing with a ring of toadstools of different colors from pink to blue.
Otto admires the cloak in his hands, running his fingers along the shiny blue filigree on the inner lining, and for a moment his eyes drift away and into a 1000-yard stare.
