Finley does have the paper with all the names on it and he does follow along as they get their names, "listen to Lady Val now, kids, aye?"He thinks over what they should do.
"We may do well ta cause a distraction so we can 'ead straight through instead o' going through side paths, who knows what may happen."
Elkhorn nods and will take care of the children. The other children outside are in position. Will lets out some strange bird calls that is quite muffled inside Loomlurch.
Valrieth remarks with obvious distaste, "I'm sure that her personal garden is just filled with poisonous plants and other nasty things." She has no desire to visit that garden if they can avoid it.
The kids says that those 3 boggles are the only boggles in Loomlurch that they have seen.
The party needs to decide whether to get oil from one of the 3 boggles upstairs now or just to hope that they have time to come back for it later before Loomlurch collapses. Val is more inclined to rescue the kids first. If they cannot get the boggle oil today, they'll just have to track it down later somehow. There's not much time pressure on that errand, not compared to rescuing the children before Loomlurch collapses or getting the portrait back to Bavlorna before the deadline.
Val thanks him. She takes it as a Sign that they were destined to find him and free him from Granny Nightshade so that he could serve this vital function for them. "It shows that we're still on the right Path," she says enthusiastically.
Aoife smiles as the children talk. As Val mentions the boggle oil, she casts her mind back to what she knows of boggles and their oil. (Nature 22) Does she know anything about it?
"Ah, remind me what we need th' boggle oil for, aye?"Finley tugs at his beard, "we really should get a move on, with a distraction th' tin soldiers could be directed away to make it easier for us ta move forward."
"Ah, remind me what we need th' boggle oil for, aye?"Finley tugs at his beard, "we really should get a move on, with a distraction th' tin soldiers could be directed away to make it easier for us ta move forward."
Valrieth says, "The boggle oil is for Squirt. Remember? That little talking oilcan we met at Will's treehouse? They said that they would help us get to Yon if we could bring them some boggle oil."
Aoife knows that boggles excrete non-flammable oil from their pores that is either sticky or slippery.
Assuming that Aoife shares that information, Val checks her journal and frowns. She says, "I don't think they said, but I guess that we'd need the slippery oil for Squirt. They had a pretty narrow nozzle, so I don't image that sticky oil would work for them."
Again, given the urgency of getting out of Loomlurch, Val is willing to skip the boggle oil for now and just get the kids out first. If they have time, they can come back for the boggle oil. Or if Loomlurch collapses before they get a chance, then after they deliver the portrait to Bavlorna, they'll just have to go on a separate quest to find some boggle oil. Surely, there must be more then 3 boggles in all of Thither. Or maybe some other denizen of Thither has a flask of boggle oil and would trade them for it.
In any case, Val feels like their priority at the moment should just be to find all of the children and get them out of Loomlurch safely.
Aoife nods at Val, then indicates the door. "Let's get your distraction going so we can get out of here with as little fuss as possible. Where to next: the other tower? If things are going to start falling down, I want to get the high places over and done with first."
Aoife nods at Val, then indicates the door. "Let's get your distraction going so we can get out of here with as little fuss as possible. Where to next: the other tower? If things are going to start falling down, I want to get the high places over and done with first."
Val nods, her ears ears swaying as she thinks. She says, "There's one more tower room, and I think we can get there faster if we can go through the yard and up the stairs that Ilifir said Spike saw. Let's see whether we can get there from here." (Val is talking about the stairs that lead from L5 up to L8.)
Val tries the door that opens to the west (from L11 to L6). If it's locked, she asks Aoife to try the keys to open it. Before they open the door, Val casts Produce Flame so that she has some light. Despite her Moonlight Monocle, she prefers to have light, and she feels like it's just good sense to have her flame ready to throw when Aoife opens the door if anything anything attacks right away.
Before stepping out to L6, Val peers into the yard, looking for redcaps or other evil fey. If the coast is clear, she steps through the door and looks to see whether there's a way for them to move south from here. (Val would like to move south into area L5 and up the stairs to L8. If that's not possible, they'll have to go back inside and go through L10 -> L7 -> L8.)
Creaking softly, a rocking horse moves back and forth near the door. Peeling paint covers its limbs, and its rocker is thick with moss. A rictus grin is painted on its face. Near a protruding root is a painted wooden box three feet on a side. A crank protrudes from one side of it, causing it to resemble an oversized jack-in-the-box.
ilifir peeks into the room, then takes a couple steps back out of it "yeahhhh dont think there is anything we need in there" he says with perhaps too much insouciance

This Mug immediately shared with me a transcendental tale of an Infinite Mug that anchors the Universe and keeps it from folding in on itself. I filed this report under "illogical nonsense" and asked why its sign is in Times New Roman font, when it is basic knowledge that Arial Black is a far superior font. I wondered: How did this mug even get past the assembly line with its theistic beliefs and poor font choices?

(@Willow_ivyleaf - Just checking since you said "into the room," but did you mean through the door to L6? See the map: L6 is just the part of the yard outside of Loomluch that's west of the kitchen and the portrait room. We're currently in L11, and Valrieth was just we could pass through L6 on our way to the stairs that lead up to L8.)
i am still bad at reading maps, yeesh, but i meant just because of the jackinthebox and the rocking horse

"Aye, another scary room in there ah can gather from yer reaction ta it. Carry on then shall we?" Finley asks, glancing at the door and to the others. "Quicker th' better, th' boggle oil can be gathered ah'd surmise after th' children are safe then."

"Yeah," Valrieth says, eyeing the rocking horse and the jack-in-the-box nervously. She thinks that the rocking horse looks old but not particularly dangerous. She says, "Maybe the box is only dangerous if we turn the crank?" She steps just outside the door with Aoife but does not approach the box or rocking horse yet. She looks back into the room and asks, "Children, have any of you seen this rocking horse before?" She points toward the rocking horse and holds the flame up above her head so that it casts light on the little yard in front of them. "Or do you know what this box with the crank does?"
Finley does have the paper with all the names on it and he does follow along as they get their names, "listen to Lady Val now, kids, aye?" He thinks over what they should do.

(OOC: Did you mean to the east? During the fight with Granny Nightshade, the redcaps bust out of the ground from L15, which is to the east of Loomlurch.)

Let me know where specifically you want to go. Currently the party is in L11
Will and the other children outside are in position to create a distraction. They just wait for a signal of some kind.
The consensus seems to be focusing on the children first and leaving the boggle oil for later. Valrieth is on board and ready to go.

To reach the stairs to L8 from L6 the party needs to find a way over the large branch blocking their path. It is 8ft tall and 10 ft wide.
