I've got a Verdan Gambler, down on his luck so bad he's made a deal with the Bondye (Voodoo spirits) and is trying to earn enough to pay back his patron. He's only on this quest because he thinks the Duke (or the Duke's son, whichever fits the story better) is secretly someone who cheated him out of a jackpot.
Quentin has spent his life studying to be the "World's Greatest Detective" and finally has a case! The Case of the Missing Duke's Son (title to be revised)
He is keen, naïve and ready for adventure (because he has never been on one)
Sorry. I notice that everyone else has re-rolled on a 1. So I am re-rolling to be consistent. Let me know if I should stick with my first ability scores, playing such low scores may be an interesting challenge :-)

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat." -Sun Tzu
Kyle originates from a small community in the frozen north. Generally more curious and adventurous than his peers, Kyle found himself more and more outside of society. He would always run when he should walk and the many bruises and broken bones he gained as a child did nothing to temper his enthusiasm.
He started spending time in the great frozen wastes near his home, where he found more acceptance among the animals and ice than he ever did in the village. One day he found an old locked door in a mountain outside his village, after much digging he freed the door from the ice and opened it. Unfortunately this was the door to a forgotten crypt, once the door was opened the undead rushed out to lay waste to his village. Kyle joined the other village defenders and eventually managed to stop the undead horde, but not before over half the village, including his parents, had been killed.
After the funerals for everyone lost to the undead were complete, Kyle walked away into the great ice wastes and never returned. After many years he is now more at peace and has forgiven himself for this mistake. He now ventures the world looking for small ways that he can help make amends for his past mistakes while always trying to satisfy his insatiable curiosity.
Character Personality:
Kyle has no strong personal connections to anyone or anything. He will generally try to do good works, but he isn’t interested in trying to fix the world. His overwhelming desire is to do and see everything and he quickly becomes bored. While in a team he is a steady and trustworthy companion, who will put himself in harm's way if required. However he knows that his real strength is in the shadows and attacking with his bow from where the enemy leasts expects it. He isn’t proud and doesn’t have a sense of chivalry, if something needs killing then he will do it in the quickest way possible that puts himself in the least danger.

Redrick is a earth genasi whose outher layer is covered in moss and grass, with a few roots dangling off and his body is made of a hard dark-brown clay. He wants to but his skills to good use so he signed up for a gig to retrieve the son of Duke Barclay.
Rina Humble-eye, half-elf paladin (may start as fighter for a level, not too invested in the mechanical distinction at this point in the story. If she does a paladin thing at this point, it surprises her she is able to.)
Ability scores: 1571010149
Rina was a girl from the countryside, born to a human father and mother, though her maternal grandfather, she knew, had been an elf and the features showed themselves subtly on the girl's face. One day a caravan came rolling along the road past thr family farm. Dozens of refugees fleeing the destruction of their town, which was overrun by orcs. Being thr kind folks they were her parents offered what they could to the refugees before they continued toward the town in search of sanctuary.
A small boy, no more than five years old, clutched a toy as he stared, red eyes gazing a thousand feet before him, lost in his own sorrow, but by now exhausted of tears, ked along by his older sister, a tall girl a few years older than Rina. Rina's.father had told her to help the travellers, but not to.ask them.any questions.
That night, after the caravan had moved.in and all the day's chores were finally finished, Rina asked her mother as she ticked the little girl into bed: "Mama, what keeps the bad things away from us?"
Her mother, keeping a stiff upper lip, trying not to let her daughter see the sorrow that welled inside her heart, answered succinctly, "The spirits pprotect the land, Rina, and those who live upon it. These who steward the land have naught to fear. As we serve the spirits, so they guard us, their servants with their aegis."
Rina, unsatisfied with her mother's token reply pressed "Then, what of those people today? Who could defy the will of the spirits who protect the stewards? Or, were those people today not fit stewards? Is that why the spirits did not shield them?"
"No, they were fine people, they just.." her mother stsrts to andwer, before her voice breaks, "Get some rest, Rina. It's late and the sun won't rise any later for your lack of sleep." With thsr, she hurries from the room, leaving Rina alone.
She slept, eventually. In her fitful rest, she dreamed. Shapeless horrors, unknown terror behind every bush and rock and in the shadows of the dense trees in the woods beyond the edge of the fields. As the shadows massed and closed in around her, Rina saw the gleaming light reflect off of the shining scales of the platinum dragon who stood in the clearing. The shadows retreated deep into the woods. Staring moti9nlessly, mouth agaoe, the girl watched as the dragon stared at her, waited ad he l9oked into her eyes, then took flight. She rushed to the spot where he stood and surveyed the horizon in search of his winged silhouette, bjt found only the sun, which shined through the gaps in her shutters, falling upon her fave as the rooster crowed outside letting her know she must rise and begin the day's chores. "A light in the darkness." she mised as she rose from her bed, determination in her eyes, and kreoared for another day in the farm.
>elves and orcs are presumed a part of the setting. If not, these could all be humans, thia coukd be a natjral disaster or an imcursion by rivals or raiders. Even the dragon is potentially only symbolic, just in case this is a dragonless Dungeouns and Dragons setting.<
>I think the front story is more interesting to explore together than the backstory. I envision Rina setting out to join a knightly order buy being rejected for some reason, maybe her elf heritage, maybe her gender, maybe her physicsl stature. Failing that, she ends up joining a mercenary company as cannon fodder, maybe Flaming Fists or something similar in this setting. Rina is a paladin but doesn't know it yet. From an FR view, she's actually been contacted by a god, but comes from a background of folk religion, unfamiliar with the gods of Faerûn, and herself seeing these divine intrusions as manifestations of the spirits of nature, but with each contact she has with divinity, she questions her faith and understanding of the world and her role in it. Through it all she is guided by the principle that she must always stand up to those who traffic in terror and be the beacon of hope for the fearful, shining light in the dark night.<
Rina arrives at the Duke's hold, intent on pledging her service as a square in hopes of one day becoming a knight, but knowing thst her station made it most unlikely the honor would befall her. Still, she would make her plea with the Duke. She is surprised to find the chaotic scene unfolding as uncourtly folk from near and far await an audience with the Duke. She overhears them say discuss the whereabouts if his son and at once feels pangs of despair as she empathizes with the children she met as they died their homes and imagines the Duke's son in similarly dire straits. This is what she had come to do.
Paco was born to a typical Kobold Clan. This clan worked under a Gold Dragon named Gilgar. He lives with his Granny, Boccoa (His parents died when he was an infant due to an incident that occurred when digging a tunnel.) Gilgar happened to be an avid trainer of Draconic Monks. The kobolds didn't typically take his classes, since they were the Dragon's workers. Gilgar, however, saw Paco's potential and enrolled him into his classes at a young age. He proved to be a natural talent! He grew to like it! Once Gilgar felt that it was time to send him into the world, as anything else he'd have to learn would be from experience, Paco was sent to explore the world away from his home. Paco felt that the best path to get that experience would be to be a bounty hunter! When that failed after a few years, he took to being an adventurer instead.
Character Personality:
Paco is optimistic, calm, and a fan of his craft. He is, however, a bit antisocial (Except with people he cares about) He doesn't mind bit of fun, but when it's time to work, he is in a fully serious mode.
A literal rock that was touched by wild magic and, through sheer persuasion, convince himself, everyone else, and most aspects of physics that he is a half elf bard. (Yes, this is a joke character.)
