Realgâr reacts with alarm seeing the leaves go up in flames, but is calmed by the quick thinking by the ranger. He gives his beard a stroke after seeing the fire being put out and says, "Caution lad, we must not be so rash. Only you can prevent forest fires, and all that."

As the fire initially burns away some of the leaves, there are signs of a small mesh of sticks underneath. It looks like a pit trap has been placed here.
Kres looks with a shocked expression, as he sees the fire take hold before it is extinguished.
"Well, if they didn't know we were coming up this trail before, they certainly do now, shall we continue before we cause more damage than we are preventing?"

“How lightly can you tread mates! We were just attacked by goblins. When their buddies don’t return to the group I assume they’ll know something happened. Best catch them early and with a show of some force.”
"Why do we have to activate the traps?" Mary asks quizzically. " I propose we travel parallel to the trail and replace the leaves. This way we can ambush anyone we see as we go along that come to check on the traps."
“We’re going past the traps! If you want to wait here you can, but I’m headed on. This is ridiculous people. No one has ever became famous for sitting in a tree watching a covered hole.” I start to storm off where the trail leads. My wand, pulsing a purple light, in my hand ready to attack
Randaler relays to the group what he learned about the number of goblins, and that they are only about a 1/2 day ahead of them.
“If we are quick, we can catch them. Good idea about not following directly on the path.” He then hurry’s after Chad , but does so a few feet off to the side of the tracks they are following, and search for more traps.
"No one is stayin' here lookin' at the hole. I'm not replacin' leaves though. Let's just keep goin' eh? And not drawin' anymore attention to us than need be. Not goin' to be famous when a trap kills ya for needlessly triggerin' it either."
Realgâr follows the road for now (staying with the group), but gives Chad a wide berth.
How easily accessible is the side of the road anyway? Is it even possible to walk along side it without having to negotiate impassable terrain?
Realgâr says to Randaler (after seeing people walking off the road separately), "You're a ranger eh? Is the forest your terrain of choice? If so we should make use of it, I say... especially with all the traps on the road." If so then Realgâr will take advantage of the favored terrain and walk in the woods off the road since there have been more traps than his liking on trail.

The group continues on past the pit traps. Mary's Prestidigitation will last an hour before disappearing again, but in the meantime it will seem like nothing has happened to the burnt area.
Following the goblins’ trail, you come across a large cave in a hillside five miles from the scene of the ambush. A shallow stream flows out of the cave mouth, which is screened by dense briar thickets. A narrow dry path leads into the cave on the right-hand side of the stream.
(For the exploration and defeating the goblins the group has gained 75xp each)
As they approach the cave, Randaler whispers to Realgâr "Wasn't ignoring you before, and yes, I grew up in the forest. It is like home to me. I never seem to get lost, and can move very swiftly through it. By the way, nice armor... is it new?"
Randaler scouts out the area around the path leading to the cave looking for traps or any signs that the goblins went inside.
Randaler begins to search the area as they progress closer to the cave from the west. On the east side of the stream flowing from the cave mouth, a small area in the briar thickets has been hollowed out to form a lookout post or blind. Wooden planks flatten out the briars and provide room for guards to lie hidden and watch the area — including a pair of goblins lurking there right now!

Mary quickly strums her lute to cast Prestidigitation and put out as much of the fire as possible.
"Let's NOT draw attention to ourselves, shall we?"

The mage hand presses against the top of the trap. It looks like it is too light to cave in the trap.
Chad begins to walk around the traps and continue following the trail. (Are people going to follow?)
