Rely looks deeply into Dustin's eyes as he is speaking. You see genuine fear and terror at what has occurred to his father and what he believes will happen to him one day. He is being entirely truthful with you.
"This is a quaint old heirloom, from whence did it come?" Neb picks the cup up, inspects it on all sides and bottom, licks the inside rim, smacks his lips thoughtfully as he tries to place the flavour, and replaces it on the desk.
Sue is most intrigued by Lord Brax's tale. She finally snaps out of it when Neb suggests she play a tune. She happily takes out her lute and strums away as her two new acquaintances go about their inspections. She strums off tune when Neb licks the unassuming goblet. Sue hadn't really noticed it before then, and she is struck with the level of comfort Neb feels with other peoples' drinkware. Her song ended, silence in the room, she says: "You uh...... you find anything interesting there Neb?"
Dustin stares at Neb for several moments completely flabbergasted by his onslaught of questions and inspections.

"Um Master Dwarf I don't mean to be um rude but would you mind not stealing my books? You're more than welcome to borrow any you like" Dustin looks suddenly unsure of who he's getting into business with but has come to far stop now.
"Anyway, I'm afraid I don't have much experience when it comes to funding adventuring parties so...... Um....... What do you want?
"Steal your book? Now see here young whipper-snapper, Nebachanezzer Singebeard is no thief! I've never taken anything that wasn't mine... except the virtue of a few maidens back in my rowdy youth, ha ha ha! See for yourself!"
Neb upends the contents of his satchel on the desk and sticks out his chin difiantly. When the book clatters out he stares at it in disbelief. A glimmer of self-doubt flickers accross his face until it is replaced by a look of realization. He turns and slaps his large friend on the rump.
"Oh you got me with that one old boy! Really had me going! Always a trickster. Why this one time there was a pair of twin bugbears who had taken a pretty maid captive. Rely was already three sheets to the wind so he devised a plan whereby he carried a large mirror into the bugbear cave and convinced each of the twins he was the other of the pair. Funniest thing ya ever saw was him boing a bugbear voice and the stupid beasts folling for it!"
While telling this tale Neb absent-mindedly repacks his belongings into his satchel, including the book."
"As to payment, my boy, I agree with Sue. Let's have some treasure, say 200 gold each if we manage to loft this curse. A small price to pay for your life, I'll wager."
Rely grins at his absent minded friend. He seems to get a wistful look in his eyes. Then it passes as he starts laughing again as neb finishes the story. " Aye, I vaguely remember that one. I seem to remember that the pretty young maiden turned out to be old man thornby's mother. HAHAHAHA!! Neither young nor pretty. HAHA! But she did seem awfully willing to show me her appreciation. (I guess old man thornby's dad has been passed for close to a score of years.) ....BAHAHAhaha! ". It looks like he wants to slap neb on the back, but then years of injuring close friends stayed his hand, and seems to sober him up a bit.
" 200 gold will do nicely. I assume you know where the cave is. Could you please give us detailed directions to it. "
"Excellent! Fantastic! Um.... The cave? Um..... Directions? Yes? I think there's a map around here somewhere. Let me see." Dustin then begins rummaging through his desk. After looking for a minute he finds an old weathered parchment and looks up excitedly.
"It's fairly out of date but should still help more than anyone living here now could." He then holds the map out but isn't sure who to hand it to.
Destin reaches out and takes it and begins looking at it and begins to walk out of the room not waiting for anyone.

Sue doesn't want any distrust in their group so she begins to play her lute again.
"Dwarves of old can be quite bold,
Though our comrade is far more considerate.
A mind like that is a steal trap,
But it can wander and miss what his hands do.
Fear not that book...... he got,
Was not meant as a slight.
The wisdom within will help us begin,
On this quest most ever heroic!"
Key change:
"As for your pondering,
I risk mondering,
To hazard a guess,
What payment is best.
Treasures are fair,
But I do not dare,
To speak for all in this party."

Ugh.
