Ivan is a lvl1 Lunar sorcerer. I plan to stick with sorcerer for the foreseeable future. Ivan is very charismatic and friendly he is a strange light in the otherwise bleak Brovia. He is a wildhunt shifter, when he changes he becomes more boar like and his teeth form Tusks. Ivan finds thrill in the study and capture of all manner of monster, beast, and humanoid.
I've played dnd for 4or 5 years now no experience with this forum.
And I've only ever heard things about Curse if Strahd I haven't played.
I don't know if I have a "usual" character, but I like dynamic characters (both mechanics and personality), so I tend to gravitate toward bards, monks and wizards
I think I would like to play a purist monk or paladin, but with a pension for breaking the "rules" when lives are at stake. Most likely selecting a mercy based subclass.
Any restrictions on race? I ask because it feels way different with a plasmoid, minotaur, hadozee and centaur trekking through Barovia than a "traditional" party.
On that note: what kind of horror/feeling are you going for? Similar to the first question, as CoS requires a certain mindset and some parties play it like a classic Hammer horror film while others are doing Evil Dead: army of darkness.
Just asking so the party members are roughly on the same page.
I don't have any problems with you using exotic races. But please avoid anything with flying, as I think that might cause an issue for some parts of the adventure.
Other than that, I think any race should be ok.
The land of Barovia is ancient, almost lost outside of time. The Count routinely arranges for Playthings (adventurers) from different backgrounds to enter his realm. So, the villagers most likely have seen all races before and would not be shocked or surprised by anything. They have too many problems and worries of their own to concern themselves with where you are from or who your people are. But the villages are mostly human-populated. So if you're planning on playing e.g. a Minotaur just be aware that anything like infiltration and blending in (if you plan on doing this) might be extra tricky as you'll hardly pass as a local.
Bianka was the only survivor of the Slovak village. Fifteen years ago, a strange traveling troupe visited the village during the summer festival. Bianka remembers their leader had a pair of white sharp fangs, and their tent moved like a winged creature. Their members looked like a group of shadows.
But once their performance started, villagers froze in their places as if bewitched by true magic. They didn't even flinch as a mysterious mist appeared and engulfed everything. All the residents of the village disappeared that night, except Bianka, who ran away from the performance because she was scared. But even she couldn't completely avoid the effects of the mist.
Since that night, Bianka's shadow became darker than other people's, and she has horrible and strange nightmares every day. She studied arcane magic voraciously. The girl knows how to solve her problem. She will embrace the shadows and master the arts of darkness. Then, she will never be afraid of nightmares, but nightmares will fear her!
Experience-level of playing DnD, including play-by-post
I have played DnD for 2 years and played play-by-post since 1990.
1. Gregor Malimar, the son of a farmer, grew up tending the fields and herding the livestock. Throughout his childhood he knew very little about the world, but this lack of knowledge only built a craving for it. Gregor lived a quiet life with his mother and father until he was old enough to strike out on his own. Some people saw him as a naive farm boy, but he was always skilled at seeing through to peoples true intentions. In his travels Gregor found work investigating various small matters he would find on job boards or hear about in the taverns. Though he never went looking for trouble, trouble seemed to find him from time to time. His growing curiosity led him to many different places including places he never intended to go in the first place.
2. I have a moderate level of experience playing in person. I have tried to join a few play-by-post in the past, but either never got a response or never enough players to start. I am currently running The Wild Beyond the Witchlight in an IRL setting, so I do have a descent understanding of the game mechanics.
3. I have attempted to play CoS in the past, but didn’t last very long due to a DM that always wanted to be the biggest jerk at the table.
I would like to say that I appreciate your consideration and would very much like to join. I have been placed in the role of forever DM and have not been able to be a PC for quite a long time. It is fun to DM, but gets tedious if that’s all you ever do.
Backstory Summary (more in my character sheet): Beeblebrox is an obsessed inventor that was a guild artisan before his competition got him kicked out. He wants to get back into the guild, get revenge, and reopen his shop so he can get back to inventing things. He's a bit eccentric, friendly, and incredibly interested in learning how things work.
Experience-level of playing DnD, including play-by-post
Been actively playing for several months now, listening to live play podcasts for about a year and decided to jump in. Currently playing in a couple of PbP games since that works the best with my schedule, would love to play this campaign.
Have you played Curse of Strahd before?
No, but I have heard that it is very difficult, which sounds like fun, I love challenges!
Thank you all for the great character ideas. It's always tough to chose, but unfortunately a party can only be a certain size. So the chosen characters are:
Sorry to bother you. Saw this is closed now and was wondering if that meant you've made your selection. I know you were closing submissions on the 31st. Thanks!
Reopening recruitment, as we unfortunately had a lot of unexpected drop-outs.
The group so far has navigated most of the Death House and is is about to enter the final level of the dungeon. For story purposes, any new characters were driven/lured to Barovia like the rest, but arrived a little later and will meet the existing characters as they emerge from Death House back into the village.
Backstory: Quaykos Lioran, or Quay, hails from the ethereal realm of the Feywild. Born to the noble House of Lioran, his childhood was one of privilege and magic, as he honed his innate connection to nature and the arcane under the tutelage of his family's skilled mages.
Tragedy struck when evil creatures unleashed a wave of dark magic that engulfed Quay’s homeland. The Feywild's once-vibrant landscapes withered, and its inhabitants suffered under their power. Quay’s family, knowing that he would be killed by the monsters for being a paladin, sent him to the Material Plane in order to save his life.
Quay struggles in the Material Plane, due to people not trusting eladrin, this world being completely different than the nature of the Feywild, and his youth and inexperience. However, Quay swore to avenge the suffering of his people and those oppressed by dark forces. He has tracked the monsters’ origin to Barovia, and seeks to stop whoever sent them. Quay also longs to find a group of people who will take him in and accept him for who he is.

I’m a younger D&D player, and have had 4 years of 5e experience. I’ve played in multiple PbP campaigns and a few in-person ones, although none of them have ever finished due to scheduling conflicts, fizzling out, or just lack of interest from other players. Currently I’m in one campaign (Out of the Abyss), so I have time to do two at once.
3. Have you played Curse of Strahd before?
I have never played, but I’m excited to do so for the first time!
Backstory:Nicholas hails from a long line of adventurers - monster hunters to be precise. Throughout generations they tangled with all manner of monstrosities, amassing wealth, knowledge, powerful artifacts, and most important of all: enemies. Their success made them arrogant, and so when the attack came they were unprepared and all but wiped off the map. The family estate and everything within was lost, burned to the ground. Entire branches of the family tree extinguished in a single night of horror.
The survivors, few as they are, have taken to calling the attack The Long Dread. No matter what they've run to, some unseen enemy has picked them off one by one across the continent. Nicholas has been on the run for half a year now, when he finds himself in a damp foggy land, with an aura of darkness that hangs heavy on the air...

I've played two published adventures from start to finish in person(OotA and ToD), and have played in numerous play-by-post campaigns that never finish. :) Currently in two other PbP campaigns that are sticking together well so far, so fingers crossed!
3. Have you played Curse of Strahd before?
Negative ghost rider. But I've been itching for a horror themed campaign recently!
Quick question...will there be content sharing? I'll apply with or without, I just like to know my options. :)
No content sharing, sorry. But feel free to use any standard source-books. The only hard rule is: no homebrew. Also, as I think I answered to someone before: while you can propose any character you like, some may not work very well in the setting (e.g. a Tortle/Tabaxi/Harendon/Loxodon might not be well suited to a social-stealth build as they would not be able to blend into crowds in a mostly human-based Barovian village)

Character creation should follow the same guidance as originally, but starting on Level 3. Please let me know if you would like to join.
I would but unfortunately I’m gonna be extremely busy soon.
If I haven’t offended you, don’t worry. I’m sure I’ll get to you eventually.
Out of curiosity, what classes are the current remaining party members?
Since recruitment is open now, I’ll apply again with a different character!
