"How long are they usually gone?" Janek asks the child. perhaps they're often gone for hours. "Are there any adults you know nearby that could keep an eye on you? I'd hate to just leave you here."
"How long are they usually gone?" Janek asks the child. perhaps they're often gone for hours. "Are there any adults you know nearby that could keep an eye on you? I'd hate to just leave you here."
"I don't know. Unusually they are always at home. We could wait in the porch while you check the house?
"We have not been here long. Maybe a few hours. Our parents looks after us of course. They often go down to check on the monster in the basement, and tell us that we have to stay upstairs. But we have not seen them for hours.
(Sorry, forgot about the Insight check:) Your insight tells you that the children genuinely believe there to be a monster; but children being what they are and easily frightened, you can only guess if this is a real monster or just a child's imagination.
Alcazar looks around the village, "Perhaps we can take you to a relative, or family friend?" After a moment he adds, "We would like to help, but my friend here has important business elsewhere." As he speaks he points at Bianca, and his lips still keep moving as if mumbling to himself.
In a whisper, Bianca hears Alcazar's voice, "They can't hear me, or your reply, but I'm not sure we really want to mess with whatever it is their parents keep as a pet."

In a whisper, Bianca hears Alcazar's voice, "They can't hear me, or your reply, but I'm not sure we really want to mess with whatever it is their parents keep as a pet."
"No, we cannot go anywhere else. When the fog is about, all the village locks their doors. No one would take us in.
Looking around you, this appears to be true as all houses are locked and shut tight. The fog is still all around, obscuring the road behind you and the houses nearby. But you can only a little distance, about two houses in each direction, as the fog seems to be closing in.
Thromlin awoke startled and instantly aware of the change in his surroundings."Curious, and dangerous."He says to no one in particular, as he looks around at the others. His large brown eyes seem to be studying the trees and stones around him. he runs a hand along the bark of one of the trees, the other stroking his growing moss colored beard. He wraps his forest shaded cloak around his seven foot frame. "We are definitely somewhere completely different then where we slept. Thromlin is my name, I agree perhaps we should join as a pack and be careful moving forward."
Thromlin's eyes sweep up and down the street, paying particular attention to the gathering focusing in and around the group. Looking over at Alcazar through his thick eyebrows, he shrugs "Seems like our "host" is asking us to help these poor children? He poses the question to the whole group.
Bianka stands motionless, silently observing, soaking the information that envelops her. With a nod, she acknowledges the sorcerer that she's listening to him. Though her lips remain sealed, her comrades can see the fervent calculations and assumptions dancing within her eyes. At long last, Bianka opens her mouth. "Perhaps you are right,Thromlin. Either way, We must seek shelter from the mist, and the young ones are in dire need of assistance," she declares. "Fortuitously, it appears that our objectives align harmoniously. Perhaps we can acquire some form of recompense through our efforts. Given their current circumstances, I doubt their parents would object. But, before we proceed, Rose," Bianka's voice calls the girl's name, bestowing it upon her lips for the first time, "tell me, do your parents possess books that have red or back cover?"
The girl looks visibly confused when you ask her about the colour of book covers.
"Our parents own many books. In fact there is a library on the second floor, and you can probably find books in many colours in there. I'm sure my parents would let you have some coloured books for helping us, if this is what you want".
Gives Bianka a curious look regarding her interest in books, then speaks up. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt to help them out. But if there's to be any compensation, I'd much prefer mine to be in coin."
(Just for clarity, the CoS book and maps use the American convention, so for any Brits and some other counties: "second floor" here refers to the level one above ground level [i.e. you will enter from the street level to the "first floor", aka ground floor to some])
Janek too send puzzled at Bianka's intetest in book colors, but he ignores that to speak to the children. "Seems we're set to go find this monster. Do you know where we'd find it? Or anything about it?"
Thromlin looks quizzically Bianka as the strange litany of words spills out of her mouth. His gaze crosses the rest of the party and he mumbles a few barley audible words to himself. "Harmoniously..,recompense..."
Alcazar is nodding at Bianca's choice; the fog did indeed seem to be making the decision for them. Then she mentions the books.
"What?!?" she hears as an urgent whisper as Alcazar puts his hands behind his back, and bows his head. "Books? Do you know something about this place? Are you part of what's going on?"
Looking the entrance, you can see that the front entrance has a large set of iron gates, slightly ajar, behind which is a stone portico or porch. There are unlit oil lamps hanging from the portico ceiling by chains, flanking a set of oaken doors which presumably open into the house proper.
Other than the house, you can see very little, we teh fog continues to obscure the rest of the village, and you can only see very little else, only one house in each direction.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Library, you say?" Bianka tastes the word as if it were a sweet candy melting on her tongue. "The deal is settled. Given the choice between mist or monster, I would prefer one with a ceiling, and perhaps one I can vanquish. Children, while we wait, you may entertain yourselves with Meat. That's the name of my mual – a trusty companion for carrying loads and emergency provisions."
The wizard responds to Alcazar, as she cautiously approaches the building. "I am unfamiliar with this place just like any of you. But as a member of the Sisters of Dawn, an ancient organisation of victims and survivors of monsters, I am well-versed in the pursuit of dangerous and forbidden knowledge. Having read dozens of documents, I must admit, their creators lacked originality. I have yet to come across a single book of dark secrets adorned with a pink or lemon yellow cover. Almost invariably, they are cloaked in shades of red or black. Now, permit me to inspect the gate. It is difficult to discern what precautions the parents took when they kept a monster in their basement."
(Bianka proceeds to check the traps on the gate and entrance.)

(OOC. I grant you, that most evil books aren't bound in pink and adorned with unicorn stickers, but I don't think that every red or black book is evil. I personally have a number of black bound books on my shelf but am not evil. But then, that's probably just what an evil mastermind would say...)

Alcazar inhales sharply then tilts his head to one side as he stares at the wizard, wondering about the life choices that have brought him to this particular place, with this particular -- seemingly irrational -- wizard.
"Brown," he says. "Most books are brown. My sister had a red diary once, many years ago. She polished it with shoe polish."
Still staring speculatively at the wizard he adds, "The darkest of secrets are often hidden by the plainest of covers."
After a few moments he turns his attention to the entrance, not fully trusting the pronouncement of this particular wizard.
"Anyone else see anything?" he asks, standing ready to help anyone else who cares to look for traps or other threats.
"I suppose it wouldn't hurt to double check before we head inside. Better to be safe and all." Rojer remarks before looking the entrance over. (perception 18)
