Bianka surveys the hall while Alcazar returns to the children. The siblings cou be remarkably well-behaved for their age, and their servants may possess excellent cleaning skills. Yet, they fail to account for this unnaturally pristine environment. In Bianka's experience, one cannot clean and be devoured by monsters simultaneously. There is an unsettling peculiarity about this house aside from the monster in the basement. She lowers her crossbow and starts to investigate the hall for any distinctive signs or clues.
Investigation: 8
You find no signs of a monster. The spiral staircase only goes up, but there are multiple doors in different directions. The doors are solid wood, without any windows, so there is no way of telling what is behind the doors without opening them.
Seeing a member of the party light a torch, Thromlin opens his palm and creates a torch like flame. He wanders around the room paying particular attention to the walls and ceilings. As he wanders he look over at Bianka. “The confinement of these dwellings is a bit much for me. I prefer the openness of the sky.”

Alcazar frowns at the children's response. Such creatures were often frustratingly literal. He nods slowly then draws a breath.
"And where might we find the entrance to the cellar?" he asks. A warm smile plays on his lips as he tries to encourage them to answer.
The girl frowns. "I don't really know. We are never allowed in the cellar, and the entrance is hidden so that no one can go down and end up meeting the monster."
She thinks for a few seconds before continuing
"But there is a Doll House in our room in the attic. It's a very detailed miniature of this house, and shows everything - even the secret doors. Perhaps that will help you find it?"
Alcazar smiles broadly, and resists the temptation to pat the child on the head. That rarely went well. He quickly glances at his companions, wondering if they have any more questions, before tuning back to her.
"You are very helpful, child. Now....one more question: Who else is there in the house? It is very well-kept and tidy. There must be servants, no?"
He keeps his attention on her, offering encouragement as best he can.

The girl checks with her younger brother, and responds: "Our parents often have guests, but we don't know if there are any here today. There are also maids and kitchen staff, but we don't know where they are. Maybe inside somewhere? Or maybe they have gone out on errands?" A tear rolls down her cheek, and she starts sobbing "I just don't know. Please. You adults can look, can't you? We don't dare go in until you check that it is safe."

Bianka smiles softly at Thromlim. "Imagine them, Thromlim, as the magnificent horns of treehoppers or the vibrant feathers of tropical birds. Nature and civilization share countless similarities, if one takes the time to truly observe. Ultimately, we are not so different from one another."
As the sorcerer is talking with the children, Bianka, the wizard, resolves to keep exploring the first floor. She places her back against the wall, gently opens the door, and ventures her familiar inside the southern room.

Owl
Perception: 4
Stealth: 18
You open the door, and stand to the side while the owl swoops in. The Owl enters, and you look through the now open door. You heart skips a beat as in the dim light, you see the shapes of three very large wolves. Your pulse starts racing, and you ready yourself for being charged. But after a few seconds, nothing happens. The rooms is eearily quiet, and the shapes are totally still. Other than the owl, there is no movement in the room.
It is only when your owl reports back that you realise what this room is.
Your owl in the meantime has swooped into the room, and with its better viewpoint (and its darkvision), reports back that this is a room full of hunting trophies ... including three stuffed wolves.
Having overcome your initial surprise, you take a deep breath to calm yourself, and have a proper look at the room. In addition to the three wolves, there is a stag's head mounted above a large unlit fireplace. Facing the fireplace are two comfortable looking upholstered arm chairs, draped in animal furs face. Between them is an oak table upon which is a small cask of wine, goblets, pipe rack and candles. An unlit chandelier hangs above a cloth-covered table surrounded by four chairs.
At the other end, there is a small table with four chairs set around it; perhaps for card games or to eat at. The walls are decorated with some wall hangings and paintings, mostly of hunting scenes, and there are also a couple of cabinets placed against the walls.
Will start with the first one on the left hand side.
You open the first door on the left, which opens into a large dining room with elaborate carved wood panelling all around.
The centerpiece of the room is a carved mahogany table, with candles places upon it, surrounded by eight high-backed chairs with sculpted armrests and cushioned seats. A crystal chandelier hangs above the table, which is covered with resplendent silverware and crystalware polished to a dazzling shine. Mounted above the marble fireplace is a mahogany-framed painting of an alpine vale.
The fireplace and candles are all unlit.
Red silk drapes cover the windows, and a tapestry depicting hunting dogs and horse-mounted aristocrats chasing after a wolf hangs from an iron rod bolted to the south wall.
A second door emerges from the room back into the hall (being the third door from the left when looking at it from the hall). From this, you conclude that the second door must open into a small dead-end space, most probably a cloakroom.
Janek watches as the others start to make a search of this floor. "Why not proceed to the attic to find this replica first?" he asks to whoever is at hand. "Although admittedly, I would expect any entrance to the basement would be from this lowest floor." As the look in the dining room suggested a cloak room, he will go ahead and open up that door and peer inside.

The cloakroom is a small, simple square room, containing various overcoats, a top hat, and some pairs of riding boots.

"It's a trophy room. The owner seems to enjoy hunting," Bianka observes, her eyes scanning the room. She counts three, taking a moment to steady her heartbeat and regulate her breathing. With a commanding gesture, she directs her familiar to perch atop each stuffed wolf's head. Satisfied that there is no immediate threat, the wizard takes aim with her crossbow and releases the bolts, striking each target.
When the area is secure, Bianka cautiously steps forward. She enters the room, ready to begin her investigation starting from the oak desk.

Investigation: 11
The wolves are indeed just stuffed wolves, and do not react at all to the presence of your familiar, or to being hit by crossbow bolts.
The oak table (not a desk) has on it a small cask of wine, which appears to be perfectly ordinary and sounds like it has some liquid inside it. Also on the table are some goblets, a pipe rack (with pipes for smoking tobacco or similiar herbs, and candles. You find nothing else of interest on this table. There are two cabinets placed against the walls, which are currently locked. (roll lock picking or strength if you want to try and open them)
Janek takes a moment to browse through the coats mostly, but also the boots and hat. Primarily seeing if there is anything in pockets or perhaps behing the coats. (Investigation: 19)

There is a fair amount of clothign here, but nothing that strikes you as unusual for the type of house. You search the pockets, and find 1gp 6sp and 12cp in change spread across a couple of coats. Other than this, nothing our of the ordinary. If you wanted to, you could take/borrow/steal some of the clothing, but it offers no obvious advantages over the clothes you already have, other than being in a slightly archaic and unusual style.
