- Character Name | Hadarai "Rai" Siannodel - Race | Spring Eladrin - Class | Barbarian (probably Path of the Ancestral Guardian) - Background | Folk Hero - Backstory | Rai inexplicably emerged from the Feywild half-grown at 75 years of age, and quickly became the beloved leader of a gang of misfit teenagers. Seemingly older and wiser than the others, his optimistic attitude and reckless disregard for authority made him something of a heroic figure. After leading a minor revolt against the town's allegedly-tyrannical leadership, he and [another character in the party] escaped to forge their future unbound by the chains of any reasonable adults being able to keep them out of danger. It's been a few years now, and Rai hasn't matured much, while his protege, who was once less mature than Rai, is beginning to come into their own. They still look to Rai as the knowledgeable adult, but that's probably going to change soon. Seeing himself as the protector of his little bro/sis, Rai flies into a fury when they're threatened or insulted, and when the pair ran out of funds, one of the two [doesn't matter to me] threw in their lot with the Silver Veil. He can't stand to see people being treated unfairly, and believes strongly in the power of manly conduct. He doesn't speak much of his past, but he does wear a curious pendant, the style of which is rarely seen on the Material Plane, to remind himself of his runaway father, who he still hopes to find one day.
Character Name | Irisviel "Iris" Vyldove Race | Half-Elf Class | Sorcerer or Wizard (I haven't decided honestly) Background | Haunted One Backstory | For as far back as Irisviel can remember, she's been haunted by the specter of something sinister. She was born underneath a red star, and even to this day she can feel its hatred burn within her. Every night she dreams of an ancient elven king dancing to the music of the red star: a symphony of chaos and pain. He tries to speak to her, but she plugs her ears and screams. She knows that if she listens to his twisted words, his horrible secrets, some terrible and irreversible change will take place within her.
She left her family in Silverymoon years ago, fearful that her curse was spreading. One morning she heard her younger sister speak of a terrible nightmare, about an old king dancing to the music of a red star...
Fleeing the north, she went south along the coast. Eventually she ran into the growing Silver Veil company, and joined the mercenary group as a way to survive. That she never has to stay in one place for too long alleviates her fear of her ailment afflicting someone else.
Character Name | Ryshraxea ("Shra") Narathi - Race | Tabaxi - Class | Rogue: Swashbuckler (can also retool for Monk: Way of the Four Elements) - Background | Gladiator - Backstory |
Shra is a fire dancer, the epitome of the feline connection with the Sun; heir of an ancient line of fire dancers within her clan who passed their secrets mother to daughter for many generations. Tr'r'yshret, the legendary first ancestress of the line, is sung of as having leapt forward into battle, a torch in each hand, and cast pyrotechnics on them so they became swirling, spark-spitting blinders that traced bewildering patterns of fire and smoke around the enemy as she tumbled and twirled in and out, weaving her dance of flame and somehow juggling torches, rapier or dagger, and her own claws at just the right moments to rake bellies and slash throats as she cartwheeled past, or to pierce through tiny gaps in armor and then tumble out of range of any return strike while still somehow maintaining the ribbons of flaming, sparking, spitting reek that were so bewildering the foe.
The fire dancers of her clan traditionally give birth to only a single kit, who becomes the next fire dancer of the clan. Twins, such as Shra, are very rare and are regarded when they come as dedicated to the Daouine (Fate). As such, they are turned forth as soon as they are able to make their own path in the world, for otherwise the Daouine will be drawn like the lightning and like the lightning too tightly contained would burst forth upon the clan. And the most traditional profession for such daughters to pursue is that of the wandering gladiator knight; such was the life she led until she befriended a fellow gladiator who had been a Witchlight Hand and accepted their invitation to accompany them when the opportunity arose for them to return there. Shra became more and more fascinated with the Feywild, the Witchlight Carnival, and in particular the masterful artistry of faerie acrobats besides those who followed the combat arts. But while she now views herself as an artist first and a warrior second, and delights now in the full spectrum of the dancers' art (and is increasingly intrigued by music and poetry, the fire dance of battle is still closest to her heart; so when she heard of an opening in such a convivial company of battle kindred as the Silver Veil she was signing on before her ear-fur stopped quivering with the words. And she'll be happy to stay as long as the battles are epic, the stories wondrous and the drink and other ... mmm ... pleasures of this mind, body, spirit, and heart -- plentiful, strong and frequent.
Cue me throwing in a desperate poet who loves vivid description and RP and who always seems to just barely manage to miss making the cut on a fairly regular basis, and therefore is not above pathetic manipulations and flattery to get into this phenomenally wonderful thread

Character Name | Saregul
- Race | Changeling
- Class | Monk
- Background | Wanderer
- Backstory | Saregul is a changeling who was orphaned at a young age. He does not know what became of his parents or even if they are truly dead. His family lived in a small town with humans and other species, but the locals were always suspicious of his changeling nature and when he was orphaned the locals did not want to look after him. So he ended up being given to a monastery in the nearby mountains and never found out what happened to his parents. At the monastery initially he served the monks but after some years was accepted as an initiate and eventually became a monk himself. However, over the years he felt that he never quite fitted in, and when a caravan with mercenary guards arrived one day, he chose to go with them and seek adventure on the road. Since then, he has been with the Silver Veil, and had enjoyed traveling the land. Although he still hopes to one day return home and find out what happened to his parents.
Character Name | Briar Cragfell Race | Shifter (Beasthide) Class | Druid (Circle of Wildfire) Background | Urban Bounty Hunter
Backstory | Briar was born into the Cragfell tribe, a group of shifters who mostly consisted of druids of the Circle of the Moon. He was expected to become Prime Guardian of the tribe one day, after his uncle Flint. However, as Briar grew older and became initiated into the Circle, he discovered that he had little knack and desire for wildshaping. Briar confided this in two of his elders, Willow and Tor, who both encouraged him to push past it and keep trying.
One day in the forest, as he was practicing his magic under Tor’s guidance, Briar accidentally set fire to a tree. He thought he heard something calling out to him but mistook it for Tor. When he looked around for his tutor, though, Tor was nowhere to be found. Not knowing what else to do, Briar ran back to his tribe to warn them of the impending wildfire.
While the tribe worked to mitigate the wildfire’s damage, Briar looked for Tor but didn’t find him. After most of the chaos died down, Flint was found dead, and the inheritance that would have gone to Briar as the next Prime Guardian was missing. Some shifters blamed Briar, not believing that anyone else would have committed such a crime. Others guessed it was Tor, since the elder was nowhere to be seen and had past grievances against Flint.
Briar talked to Willow about the voice he’d heard, since she had a special connection with the spirits of the forest. She suggested that it was a fire spirit he’d heard, which was something that a different order of druids specialized in. The Cragfell elders collectively decided that Briar would be sent off to Willow’s cousin in the Circle of Wildfire, since he wasn’t getting anywhere as a Prime Guardian candidate. When Briar got there, though, he discovered that Willow’s cousin, Cinder, had gone off to a nearby city years previously. It took some time for Briar to find Cinder, who reluctantly agreed to mentor him in between hunting bounties.
After some years of joining Cinder as a druid and a bounty hunter in the city, Briar found a bounty placed on his previous mentor, Tor. Confident that he could live on his own, Briar left Cinder to track down Tor and recover the Prime Guardian inheritance. After weeks of searching, Briar found Tor, only to lose in combat and be left for dead on the side of the road. He was discovered by some members of the Silver Veil, who brought him back from the brink of death. To repay his debt, Briar joined the Silver Veil, training and hoping that one day he’d be strong enough to find and defeat Tor.
You seem to be without one of these folk in the Company so far, so here's a retool of Shra more on the steamspelly side:
Character Name | Ryshraxea ("Shra") Narathi - Race | Tabaxi - Class | Artificer - Background | Gladiator - Backstory |

Shra became more and more fascinated with the Feywild, the Witchlight Carnival, and in particular the masterful artistry of faerie acrobats besides those who followed the combat arts. So fascinated, indeed, that she volunteered as an extra in a thrilling new act involving Ry'xa the Red Dragonborn, alchemist's fire, tumbling, juggling, wizardry, wonder, and this strange, exciting new black powder stuff everybody's been so excited about lately ...
When her fur grew back, and the withered stumps of bone that had been a fire dancer's paws and limbs healed enough to see what she had truly lost. she did not get angry at the Gods. She simply registered a vow. Technology now owed her a debt. She would collect. No matter what it took. No matter how long it took. Technology would restore to her what it had taken, and then she would master it as she would have mastered an unruly kit apprentice that got too rough and actually claw-raked her if she had been eldest and matriarch. And she would make it dance the fire dance of battle with her once more.
For while she now views herself as a battlesmith first and a warrior second, the fire dance of battle is still closest to her heart; so when she heard of an opening in such a convivial company of battle kindred as the Silver Veil she was signing on before her ear-fur stopped quivering with the words. And she'll be happy to stay as long as the battles are epic, the stories wondrous and the drink and other ... mmm ... pleasures of this mind, body, spirit, and heart -- plentiful, strong and frequent.
Shra always carries with her a small painters' kit and supplies to make egg tempera and oil paints. It is her belief that her paintings are of sufficient quality as art that when she becomes old and arthritic in mind and body and can no longer keep up as a traveling warrior and battlesmith, she will be able to fully support herself in the style to which she wishes to become accustomed by selling her paintings. Opinions vary as to this point.

As gracefully as her twin sister could at the perfection of her finest leap. Only then could she ever return to her clan as a wandering twin in the sagas is always in the end sung to do. Only then could she hold her head up as she sung of her battles, feasts, and wanderings; only then would she be a worthy daughter of Narathi. This was her quest, to follow that star, no matter how hopeless, no matter ... or was that something she'd heard from the Witchlight Carnival crowd? Things just blurred together some nights, past and present, machine and tabaxi, comrades of youth and battle brethren of now, till she wasn't sure who she was sometimes. But she did know one thing.
She would return home worthy of her name, or not at all.

Some would opine that the same can be said for the bagpipes she always carries and always plays the night before any battle she knows is coming that far in advance. Others would opine that no, that's just the way bagpipes always sound. These latter individuals never seem to have a taste for haggis, for some reason ...
As far as specialization goes, I'm leaning towards either an artillerist or a battle smith depending on the needs of the group at that point

In terms of roleplaying: I love to do a lot more RPing and less combat. So this sounds like just my cup of tea. If anything, I probably write a bit too much.
