Normont considers for a moment, "I assume you have to go immediately to the meadery as instructed by your home office, if they say it is urgent, Magnus? I am intrigued by the blade for certain, Quinn. But Lokillia is right, in terms of urgency I think helping Magnus takes priority. We can always discuss a plan for finding this blade of yours as we travel, and now we know about it, we can keep our eyes and ears open. Same with the goblins. In fact, I would be eager to hear more of your village's history and of the Cult of Darkness as we travel, Quinn".
As he is speaking, a whirring sound comes from within Amber and her head cocks to the side slightly before repositioning. "Ah, some calibration is still needed from time to time", he says as he notices Dev pull back a little startled.
"Come here, Amber", he says again in Gnomish. As Amber trots over, he leans down and grabs a couple of his tinker's tools and when she gets to him opens up her chest plate, fiddling about inside whilst listening to the others speak.
At first, Dev is noncommittal. He had thought the group were meeting to celebrate Quinn’s return to Drynna, and for no other reason. He’s just about to wish Magnus good luck on his mission when the words “we” and “us” start making their way into the conversation. “Oh, umm, we’re going there? Together?”
Dev’s income had taken off busking in the square, and this would throw a wrench into it. And again, the question of his parents arises. He pales just a bit and his eyes dart among the companions as he wonders how disappointed one or the other might be if he declines. But when he speaks, it’s as if someone else entirely takes control of his words, and a glint, a mote of excitement sparkles in his eyes.
“It would be really cool to search for a magic sword. But Normont's right. Maybe we can find the sword while we help you, Magnus.”
Following this statement, Dev smiles the smile of one who has just been presented with a bill for more than they have in pocket. His eyes latch onto the back door and he imagines himself inventing excuses to leave immediately. But as he plans his exit, he remembers the gold he earned with the group last month, which had, over the course of only two days, changed the course of his life. Not just his life, his parents' too. And this memory, the source of the adrenaline bump that made him speak out a moment ago, now holds him in place, listening with interest.
"OK so this sounds like a plan, thank you friends. Why don't we all meet at my office in the morning and we can head out from there. I can make the arrangements for our travel, do we all just want horses or do you think we need a wagon as well? Then I can send a letter back to the home office as well, and have them look into our other matters while we are out of town. This also gives everyone the rest of the day to gather what they might want for traveling and to let anyone know they will be gone." Magnus says to the rest of the group as he stands up and prepares to gather the supplies and send some missives to his home office.
Once Magnus leaves the party he will travel to the local city watch and inquire about getting some horses and possibly a wagon for the group to use for travel. Depending on the price either paying for it himself, or having the Cobalt Soul pay for it all, by having whomever he purchases the items from to bill them. He likes this option the best as he enjoys having the cobalt soul foot the bill in retaliation for sending him out here.
[OOC: OK so 7 Pony's and a wagon would cost me 245, which I can cover if need be. Also, I would request my Home office to either provide me or do some research for me for a Ring of Sending so I can more easily talk to the home office and anyone else I need to.]
Magnus finds jasper at the Watchhouse and is extremely pleased to discover that a number of the wagons and animals that were seized at the Galador Manor and Winery are available to be ' loaned ' for an indeterminate period of time......though he will need to log any losses so asks if they can all be returned before they go up for auction.
He sends off the request for the Ring, though doesn't hold out much hope that it will be acted on with haste.....though if this mission goes well, who knows?
Meeting with the others in the morning with a mix of mules, ponies and a rather sedate older draught horse they prepare to leave.
The last of the brief snows fell two weeks before, and the cobblestones are finally starting to peek out from beneath the stuff for the first time in weeks.
The mostly low-slung, wide bottomed stone buildings of the Drynnas outskirts have their shutters open and doors thrown wide as you pass. Roaring fires burn everywhere. Children wander about without their huge coats, boots, and gloves, and small icicles drip, quickly dissolving off the edges of every roof in the weak sunlight.
After almost an hour you approach the Sweetling Meadery, a huge structure on the edge of town. It has dozens of rooms, and likely holds more than a few secrets. Not quite an alehouse, not quite a merchant hall the Meadery does a bustling trade.
The doors open wide as you approach.
One of the staff in their white shirts and dark aprons ushers you in, " You are expected above, behind the red door.", she says quietly pointing the way up the huge staircase curling from the centre of the common room crammed with breakfasting folks of many shapes and sizes.
Another staff member at the top of the stairs points down an out-of-the-way, wood-paneled hallway on the uppermost floor of the Meadery, you find the red door, just as described.
Beside the door, someone has draped a huge Meadery flag over a long, wide table, the edges of which nearly reach the ground. The hall runner is slightly twisted near the doorway.
Blue-white sunlight streams out into the hall through the door, which was left ajar.
You can make out faint, mumbled conversation within.
Normont chooses the smallest of the animals to ride when they leave, feeling a bit nervous as he climbs up into the saddle. Considering his short legs he is grateful not to have to walk though. As they travel, he is also grateful for the traveller's clothes he bought, but the shield strapped to his back still feels unfamiliar. Amber mostly rides on his shoulder, but from time to time he whispers to her in Gnomish and she flies up and circles above them before coming back to rest again. Each time she merely shakes her head.
When they reach the Meadery he defers to Magnus, and when they finally stand outside the red door, it is to Magnus he looks. That is until he spots the twist in the hall runner, and can't help but go and take a little look to satiate his natural curiosity. He takes out one of his thieves tools to help himself focus.
Magnus enjoys the journey riding in the wagon and fills himself with looking at the landscape and just how huge everything seems to be, having lived in the city most of his young life, he is constantly amazed at just how much space there is.
Upon arriving at the Meadery he dismounts and makes sure all the animals are taken care of and enters the building, giving a brief nod of thanks to the staff, and ordering some food and drinks be brought to the room. Seeing the door he pauses and gathers himself and then walks in as confidently as he can.
He looks around the room taking everything in and introduces himself to whomever is already in the room, side stepping so the curious Normont can go further into the room. "Greetings, I am Magnus Saurbranch from the Cobalt Soul, I was directed to come here as soon as I could. These are my companions and they will be joining me on my...our mission." At which point Magnus introduces everyone, with just their first names, no sense giving out all the information at the start. "So who can fill me in on exactly what this mission is and where it will be taking the lot of us?"
Dev rides on one of the palfrey, which is as doubtful of him as he is of it. It’s not that he’s never ridden before. Even he learned to ride when he was a child, though he learned on a pony owned by an uncle who died some years ago, not a horse. Yet a horse isn’t so different, he finds. Still, the mounts are big and formidable, and Dev is sure that if he doesn’t pay attention, the huge weight of the creature will smash him against something or his mount will simply scrape him off by cantering under a low branch after he has fallen asleep.
Despite his misgivings, the teen tiefling – who, speaking of teendom has just celebrated, very quietly, his seventeenth birthday – makes it to the Meadery without falling from his mount. He thanks the horse with quiet sincerity for not throwing him, although he still eyes it guardedly as he ties it to a post or hands its lead to a stableman.
Following the others into the meadery and upstairs, Dev’s eyes are full of the place. He turns left and right, gawking, until, upon entering the room after Magnus, he forces himself to clap his mouth shut and try to act with the same composure as his companions.
During his recent performing engagements, he has been intrigued by the unknown faces he’s seen, and his curiosity has driven him to examine the people in the crowd keenly but without staring at any one person too long. To try to… he can’t quite put it into words. To try to understand what they want to hear? Or really, what they need to hear. Here and now, he tries to do the same thing. Who else is in the room (other than his companions)? And what do they want from him? (Insight: 13)
Lokilia spends about 10 minutes before they leave gathering her thoughts as she casts Speak with Animals (as a ritual). She then spends just a moment of time talking to the various mules, ponies, and horses, before they leave. She tries to assure them they will all be well cared for and that the journey should not be too hard. She also checks if they have any concerns, so the beasts are utilized in the best way possible. She comes to like one of the ponies more than the others, and would ride her on the way to the Sweetling Meadery.
The half-elf makes sure all the animals are attended to properly once they arrive. (Although by that time the spell has ended.) She's still seeing to the creatures as the others starts to go inside. But she soon scrambles to catch up to them. She just catches Magnus' words, asking about the mission. 'Sums up what I wondered too,' she thinks. So she stays quiet to see if there might be answer.

The room is huge, with gable windows that show a bright sky outside. The roof, once covered with scattered snow, appears to have been recently cleared. Four figures stand in the room: three richly dressed priests in bulky red and gold cassocks, and one figure ( who’s known to Magnus from his time training with the Cobalt Soul, Blanith Berian), wearing his Cobalt blue robes and the sigil of the Cobalt Soul. A bandaged woman with a thin face is tucked under plush blankets, asleep in the large bed next to the fire. Her face twitches now and then as though she’s trapped in unpleasant dreams. Near the window stands an elaborate bronze base with an empty flagpole. The priests shift to consider you, roused out of their conversation with Blanith. The room falls silent.
Blanith looks uncomfortable and stressed and looks at Magnus with a strange expression, " I'm sure I have no idea what your talking about, whoever you are. Now take this rabble out of here immediately!"
